Hobo Jack
There's an old run down box car Sittin' at the end of the line Wisteria vines seem to hide the scars Of a long ago railroad time
There's a coal oil lamp burnin' I see it flicker through the cracks And i hear a voice sweet and tremblin' I couldn't wait to see Hobo Jack
Hobo Jack, tell me a story Of what you've seen down the line How many trains have you jumped How many towns have you passed by Hobo Jack, you're the last of a breed Drink your wine and take me back Tell me how it all began And how you ended on this desolate track
Up on the hill is Potters Ground He said soon i'll be lying there With the ghost train blowin' my favorite sound I'll make my last jump out of here
Hobo Jack, tell me a story Of what you seen down the line How many trains have you jumped How many towns have you passed by Hobo Jack, you're the last of the breed Drink your wine and take me back Tell me how it all began And how you ended on this desoltae track
Hobo Jack,Hobo Jack

Michael, I like it. A good hobo song. These railroad bums once had the run of the country during hard times, moving from jungle to jungle. Hard men for hard times. The hard times are back. But where have all the hobos gone? You won't find them on the RR lines anymore. John Prine wrote a song about them 30 years. It's the last they've been heard from.
Glad you reminded us of of these old 'bos.

I also liked the flow and imagery of this lyric. My only suggestion would be the last line of the chorus. For some reason as I sang it I wanted to end it with the hook, Hobo Jack.
Just a thought.

hey Dan,i've always had a strange feeling about hobo's ever since i was a kid,i guess back then they were hobo's,thought maybe i was one in a previous life or on my way to be one.Thanx for your time!
Hey Brian, glad you dropped in.I don't recall the Prine song either.
Hey Doug, thanx for your thoughts and time on this one.I kinda was gonna go that way but since i started the chorus with hobo jack i just didn't wanna use it till the end of the song on a fade out.
