Good afternoon all,

Ricki has been soooo patient with me on this one. I wasn't being clear enough on the tone I was shooting for, but once we got that sorted out, me thinks she nailed it.

Hope you enjoy the results....

Beth

P.S. Gotta go trim the tree now...so will be back later to comment on any feedback and to post some crits too!! xoxo

"FLIGHT RISK"
(c) 2010, Beth Williams & Ricki E. Bellos

I notice how you always keep
Your keys in the ignition
But I’m right here and ready
For more of your sweet kissing

Cause boy, you’re so romantic
Paint my toenails red in bed
So even when you’re MIA
It’s easy to forget

You’re a flight risk
Afraid of getting close
Ready to escape at any time
I'm scared but hide it
Ride out your come and go
But your wave of love and leaving is a crime

I hold you close but gently
Give us both the room to breathe
In the heat of night you promise
I’m the one you’ll never leave
But still I know….

CHORUS REPEAT

Let’s play with handcuffs just for fun
Enjoy how there is no way to run
Kiss me twenty different ways
I’ll show you that it’s safe to stay

Then you won’t be a flight risk
Afraid of getting close
Ready to escape at any time
It'll be alright if
You stop your come and go
Give us a chance....give up your life of crime

My little flight risk
Your love and leaving is a crime
My little flight risk
Your love and leaving is a crime
Flight risk

Hey Beth and Ricki,

I love this lyric and it's so cool to hear the song. Flight risk is an awesome hook (wish I had thought of it).

I can't offer a real critique of the song since I'm just learning guitar, but I'd love to hear this with more instruments!
I do like what you've done with it.smile

Gosh Dottie,

Thanks for taking the time to revisit this one. Sorry about the confusion with the wrong MP3...though we surely appreciate that you enjoyed the wrong one too smile .

Hey Nivlac,

Thanks a bunch for your generous feedback....AND for swinging by AFTER we got the right MP3 up! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

As for Ricki, I gotta agree with you -- she is Da Bomb. It's quite a treat to get to work with her..and I'm grateful she puts up with my shenanigans.

Ciao for now,
Beth

Hi Beth and Rikki,

Hey I'm more of a country and rock kinda guy but having listened to this I gotta tell you --this is a cool song. I love the melody--kinda of a bluesy, pull you in thang. LOl. Seriously--very well written, I love the hook--great example of how to say something different. Cool concept, catchy melody, good job all the way around. I gotta get off the lyric boards more often. I've been missin out. LOl. take care,
Roger

Hi Beth, Hi Ricki,

Hey…so cool to hear this with music now! I am familiar with the lyric from the lyric forum and as always, Beth, you provide an emotional story/feelings from which to draw the music to. There’s vulnerability behind the words that I think a lot of people can relate to.

And Ricki, I enjoyed your interpretation. The heartache comes across through your singing as well as a certain amount of strength, especially in the bridge. Enjoyed the guitar.

Great job, girls!

Kristi

This is quite a treat: interesting lyrics and really good delivery on guitar and vocals. Dang, it is even almost what I would call uptempo!

great job all around. I really enjoyed this production.

Flight risk is such a good hook and the arrangement is suits the lyrics perfectly. Ricki your vocals are always top and this one is no exception. I think an retro electric with a lot of flange effect would go down a treat on this track.

Well done with this one guys and if you need a backing track doing just let me know.

Kind regards
Andy

Hiya Roger,

You are so sweet, thank you for such a glowing review! I really liked the hook too; the challenge was how to live up to it, and I think with the help of the gang on the Lyric Forum, it all worked out. Musically, Ricki and I played around with this quite a bit, but I'm so thrilled with the finished product. I have found myself humming it off and on all day...

BTW, I know what you mean about getting off the Lyric forum. There are some incredible songs over here on MP3 -- yours included mister wink .

Thanks again for the visit. Your comments help us feel we're on the right track...

Good morning Kristi,

Ah, it's always so nice to get your feedback. I appreciate the time you take to make it thoughtful.

It's pretty wild to follow the evolution from lyric to a full song, huh? Ricki makes it look EASY.

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen, and for being so encouraging.

Have a groovy day smile .

Oh, what fun, Ladies! grin

Some nifty lines/images in there, Beth, and Ricki, I love the raunchy little vocal lift in each line 3 of the verses. wink Nice change-up into the chorus as well, and good variation in the bridge.

Hey there Kevin,

Wow, "quite a treat" is quite a treat! I'm happy you liked the lyrics, and I had no doubt you'd enjoy Ricki's musical interpretation. She really went all out on this one.

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and offer us some feedback Kevin. Much appreciated smile .

Hi Roger,

Thanks for giving this a listen. "a bluesy, pull you in thang"!
Well put. Beth wanted something a little edgy and if Beth isn't happy, NOOOOOOOOObody is happy! She really keeps me on my toes. Glad you like where this ended up, even if you do like country. wink

Hey Andy,

Thanks a bunch for taking a listen to this one and offerring up such generous feedback. It was challenging (in a good way) to get it where we wanted it, but Ricki is the maestro (maestra???) and once again she worked her magic.

Thanks too for your suggestions on some additional effects and the offer of a backing track. Let me chat with Ricki....

In the meantime, I sure appreciate your input smile .

Have a swell night,
Beth

Hey there DM,

Coming from you, "nifty lines/images" means a lot, thank you. The hook was really the driving force behind the whole lyric...so when in doubt, we went back to that smile .

As for Ricki's musication, I can't argue with you; the gal knows what she's doing.

Thanks a bunch for checking this one out for us. Have a great day!

Your keys in the ignition--fantastic line! But I’m right here and ready
For more of your sweet kissing

Cause boy, you’re so romantic
Paint my toenails red in bed--I want to date this guy...the toenails part anyways... laugh
So even when you’re MIA
It’s easy to forget

You’re a flight risk
Afraid of getting close
Ready to escape at any time
I'm scared but hide it
Ride out your come and go
But your wave of love and leaving is a crime

I hold you close but gently
Give us both the room to breathe
In the heat of night you promise
I’m the one you’ll never leave
But still I know….

CHORUS REPEAT

Let’s play with handcuffs just for fun--kinky kinky bethie.
Enjoy how there is no way to run
Kiss me twenty different ways
I’ll show you that it’s safe to stay

Then you won’t be a flight risk
Afraid of getting close
Ready to escape at any time
It'll be alright if
You stop your come and go
Give us a chance....give up your life of crime

My little flight risk
Your love and leaving is a crime
My little flight risk
Your love and leaving is a crime
Flight risk

Beth and Ricki, this is very good. I also think this song would be cool to do as a rocker, bluesy song too, if you ever wanted two versions, but this is great fun, spot on vocals, and lyrics, enjoyed it!!!!:)

Hi Beth + Ricki

I couldn't resist adding a few guitars and a bass to this track. It's just to cool for school. Here's the link hope you both like it.

Hey Andy!!

I'm going completely out of order here, but I just got word you had posted this with a backtrack and I had to take a listen! WOW -- it's SOO HOT! Thanks a LOT smile . I just posted it up at the top, so people could listen to both versions.

Thanks again for your effort on our behalf, it's much appreciated. What a treat for someone to care -- and be inspired -- enough to want to share like this. smile

Take care,
Beth

Go Andy, Go!

Pretty cool, Maybe a little remix in the verses so the vocals take front and center -- never trample on the lead vox.

Looks like you won't have to backtrack on this one anymore, handy Andy gave it some dandy licks that just might keep your flight risk around for a long time, nice work you two!!~~MFB III

This is a REALLY solid song guys.

The line "Then you won’t be a flight risk" is a bit forced... small nit though.

I like the electric guit. It's really pretty top notch, but it's got some timing issues that distracted me in spots.

I can't remember hearing a tune from Ricki that has a chorus that lifts as nicely as this one. This just sounds like a song!

Peace,

Ian

Beth - Ricki There's no need to thank me I was just having some fun but I'm glad you both like where I took the track. When I started playing over it I had a blues style in mind but that rapidly change to the funk as you can hear. Funny how these things happen. I think this track is so cool it could be done in lots of different style and still sound good.

Thanks to everyone for taking a listen to my butchering of Flight Risk. I've not played with my Wah for ages and last night seemed like the perfect time to dust it of and get some Shaft on the go smile

Kim

Hi Kimberly,

I so appreciate your visits, b/c your feedback is always constructive and thoughtful. I'm also glad you enjoyed those few spots in the lyric -- you picked out some of my favorite parts wink .

Finally, it's interesting you should mention different versions of this song. Ricki had done an earlier version...then a friend of mine did one on his own, which sort of helped Ricki and me rethink her original version...which is what got us to this version. THEN ANDY came up with his funkadelic twist on it...so it continues to evolve. From a lyricist standpoint, it's more than I could hope for...that the words can stand up to different interpretations. Ultimately though, that's another feather in the caps of my musicators smile .

Anyway, thanks so much for encouragement -- coming from you, it means a lot.

Cheers,
Beth
