I did this cover for a church talent show last year. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=587695&songID=9840166Auto-Play Hi-Fi: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9840166In spite of my recording glitches (electronic bugaboos) I went for it........... Straight-through live take, no effects, no cut/paste, no computer tricks. I have yet to figure out vocal effects etc on Audacity, so when the Mac is free (next week sometime) I'll dump it in there and see if I can compress/EQ it a bit, but this seemed like a decent enough take to post. The reverb you may hear in there is actual. Big echo-ey room. I'm pretty happy about being in tune Hope you like it -- Linda

Got yourself a New FAN, Mz Lin'! I wasn't expecting a fairly New "Take" on this Standard...but you Did it Your Way..the Phrasing & Vocs were considerably Different (& Far-Better) Than-Expected.
Beautiful Job! (Hats-Off to the Side Men, as-well--this was downright Enjoyable Listening!)
I dunno HOW to type in a Dozen Roses...maybe MFB3 can do it! Best Wishes & Big Hugs, Stan

Hi Linda
Sounds real good -- So are you Singing along with a recorded version with the piano and drums? Well I also like that arrangement if you are playing all that LIVE? When you sing this good the bugs are hardly noticeable... : ) jm

Linda,
You go girl!! Loved the different arrangement, very nicely done. I think you can dig into lower notes more...do you know how to shift that focus in your head? If you work on it, you can get those swoops cleaner, I sang this in college choir, so I know how singing it can be. Great job!

Linda,
One of my favorites! And you certainly gave it the sultry treatment that it deserves!! I enjoyed your recording of "Sweet Hour of Prayer" as well. You have a very beautiful voice.

Thanks Cal, JM, Tammy, and Paul!! It's prerecorded. I'm just singing along. This was sort of a throwaway version as part of my soundcheck -- I won't leave it up long as it's a cover and my focus isn't covers right now. So.... Catch it now while you can!! Paul --- thanks for listening to Sweet Hour. There are recording issues w/that-- it pulled in cued left and I can't for the life of me double it and fix it to center or right for accurate stereo. It's also a lower-grade mic than I have now. When my studio glitches are fixed I will re-do it. Some here have said before "who are you as an artist?" --This, and the Sweet Hour track, are closer to what I want to be & sound like, while staying contemporary and not just old-school jazz. Those of you who remember from when I started here should know how cool this is that I'm eliminating "pitchy" more and more often these days!! Tammy-- show me how!! I want to get better at that swoop thing. I did better at that in the talent show performance. Listening back to the 10 or so tajes I did if this yesterday (this by far the best) I realized how easy it is to "overdo" this style into the point of silly. Or "under" -- this one was the happy medium. I'll be my own critic here and say I needed just a bit stronger opening. Work-in-progress!

That song and house of the rising sun were the first songs I used for my "serious song set" when I used to sing at clubs.
Your version is smoldering. But then in the summer it is hot.
Thanks for entertaining me, Linda.

Thank you, Doug, Ricki, and Mike! Nice to meet you, Mike! Doug, House of the Rising Sun is on my short-list to demo soon here... would you happen to have an arrangement of it I could use? You all know how to make me feel good. I get to where I question why I keep trying to do this. But I *am* improving!! Whew. Thanks to my vocal coaches Freddie Mercury & Ella Fitzgerald. (ROFL!!) I'm glad everyone is liking it overall! It's the worst thing ever to hear a cover if a timeless favorite that's just botched 8 ways from Sunday. LOL

Lovely tribute in vocals to one of the all time greatest songs, I may even make a copy of this to listen to in the dead of winter, when I am inches from being a frozen corpse, i am sure it will thaw out some of my pasts...LOL~~~MFB III

Thank you Mackie, I'm always glad when someone loves my version AND it's a favorite song.
Thanks MFB - I can send you the MP3 if you want? Let me know. Unless I set it to download... I'll have to look, I don't remember.
Much appreciated!

Pretty darn nifty vocal there. Btw, you have Ira Gershwin listed as writer on your SC page but the lyrics are actually by DuBose Heyward.
