Hi friends. This is my latest demo and I really do love it. Of course I would anyway. I do hope that you enjoy it. God Bless Roy and Helen soundclick http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9676383youtube: Just with lyrics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wsKcP9J7Cg‘Where The Devil Lurked' Roy Cooper © 2010 Hearing their fearful cries He paid them no heed Gave them water once a day And Fed them cattle feed. He lived a life of evil Would fight, swear and curse Condoned un-holy suffering For gold in his bulging purse Chorus1 Toiling where the devil lurked Surrounded by despair He didn’t think too much of God No, he really didn't care Sailed across the oceans To deliver those wretched souls Forced to lie beneath the deck In waist high dingy holds He was captain of a slave ship Making profits was his curse Hearing that slaves were dying He’d clutch his shrinking purse Chorus1 Toiling where the devil lurked Surrounded by despair He didn’t think too much of God No, he really didn't care Then one day a raging storm Took hold to sink his ship Could hear that awful wailing From deep down in midships He cried out for God’s mercy Please hear my pitiful call Screamed out for redemption Pleaded, I beg you save us all Chorus2 Toiling where the devil lurked He was delivered from despair Swore to God he would atone For the life that brought him there Twas that day,God changed his life He went on to become ordained Tried to shake the memories But still his guilt remained So he turned to writing hymns Putting heart felt words to verse Thanking God for saving him When he was at his worst Tag: It was said that when he died, he prayed for Gods embrace Leaving us his legacy - the hymn – ‘Amazing Grace’ "John Newton" - captain - poet - clergyman. Well, Roy: This is really beautifully done. I'll throw only one nit at you (but it proves I listened carefully to the lyrics): I would change "pitiful call" to "plaintive call". This was downright poetic. Wonderful, it moved me. Ott

I think I commented on the lyrics for this one. Nice demo. Not the kind of music that I listen to much, but I think the demo guys did a good job for you.

Echo the sentiments above- I really enjoyed this. Very well written, composed, and arranged. The singer did an excellent job, and the production is nearly flawless in my opinion.
You asked for comment on genre- I would call this contemporary Christian, and could hear it on contemporary Christian radio for sure.

Wow. What a Beautiful Demo..& a Beautiful SONG, Brother Roy!
I agree.."Contemporary Christian"...and this is Very Inspirational, especially since it's a True Story.
Been through an Experience like The Cap'n's...tho no slaves were killed in the process. Always wondered whether God does a "Coin-Toss" prior to that Great "Thumbs-Up!"...
But, yeah, those little Personal Miracles sure DO make ya a Firm Believer. &..perhaps a songwriter, too, eh?
Fine, Fine Job, Amigo! "KUDOS" from The Sunshine State! Best Wishes, Good Luck with it, & Big Hugs to You & Helen, Stan

Hello there, Roy (and Helen). Mi oh my oh, what a fine song your great lyric turned out to be. I will repeat here what I told you in an earlier PM: This is a remarkable lyric that touched me. I have heard Newton's story before but never in such a poignant and powerful way.... I actually thought the lyric was so fine as a poem that I wondered if music would do it justice. Now I can say I'm so happy that it did!
Agree with the others that it's CCM. Here's hoping it finds a home on a CCM station near me soon.... Just a wonderful song, well done. Best, Scott

Hey Roy,
Yeah, that's one well produced demo.
It's done in that older classic style, but suits the song well. For some strange reason, I'm thinking it should be part of a Carols by Candlelight night. It has that epic feel to it.
cheers, niteshift

Thanks for stopping over. I am pleased that you like it. The singer is a Nashville session singer. He really don’t it justice.
