Nice one. It sounds like something you've been through? If not, I believe it to be the case. That is one thing that I like about country music- they really are songs about life. No mixed messages, metaphors, etc.- what you hear is what you get. This is a really good story that any father with a little girl can certainly relate to.
I really enjoyed it.

Ha - love the third verse - actually made me laugh Not having kids, I never thought of this. But yeah, if I had a daughter that was coming of age and I thought back to what I was like as a boy at that age, I'd slam the door in those boys faces too! Fun one Scott

Louis,
You could sing me the phone book and I would love it!
A very sweet lyric. My son is 9 and I'm not ready for anything new that he gets into, looks like it doesn't get any easier.
Very nice!

Yep, I remember the days and I also remember the days I told a few boys that "HER" dad isn't the ONE to be afraid of.....I can out shoot, out whistle, out spit any man any day...and I wasn't afraid of any 15 year old boy trying whatever on my girls...
this is really great Louis...enjoyed it alot...glyn

New Poster About To Show Polly She Was Right I really dislike this song. Who cares if the father is not ready, as the lyrics,so unaware of real life, express? Who cares if her father is still thinking about Barbie Dolls and tea parties? Not her, for sure. . . but he sure is. "Just the other day some boy came by I slammed the door in his face"? Well, that's a real cool dad ain't it? "she's traded all he toys and dolls for faded jeans". That's a complaint? That's the way the world goes round. Got a 15 year old daughter, just so you know. Ott

Thanks Ott, I'm glad you hated my song, lol.. Appreciate your honesty. What'd ya think about the melody though?

Louis: Well, sir, gotta admire your cool. On top of that, you got me to go listen to the tune again, 'cause now I had to pay attention to the melody! Which was real nice. Good luck to you. Ott

Hi Louis
I like this a lot -- perhaps you got a cd going --- About Family anyway - I like how you seem to be stretching on melody. jm

Hi Louis, Sweet, lyrically and melodically. Maybe this is why I didn't date until I left home and went to college? Ricki

Lovely song. Lots of self-awareness and contradictory emotional tensions in there.
I think the chorus could be even catchier - and, hey fella, it ain't bad already - if you repeated the 'no way' line (just the once) after the pause which follows 'first kiss' around the end of the first minute. You sing 'kiss' at approx 1:02 and there's a stop until about 1:05. I think it would be worth experimenting with singing 'no way' when the music resumes there.
Just an idea. But I think it'd emphasise a very hooky refrain and provide a sense of anticipation when it's about to happen again later.
Putting a bit of disdain into the voice at that point might be very effective too. Not sure if that's the right word but sound just slightly appalled/disgusted at the very idea there. ;-)

Hey Steve, good idea, I think it'd work too. If I can get enough distain/disgust in my voice.
