I wanted to wait a few weeks before posting this to make sure it was a for sure deal, and it looks like it really is. I got a call about a month back from my plugger and very good friend in Nashville with the good news. A song of mine was chosen by Charlie Pride and will be on his next album. It is an ongoing project which means there is no set date for release. After many years of holds and near misses this was great news. I am especially humbled and delighted to be on Mr. Pride's album because he is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as a genuinely nice person. I was also told that because Charlie loves the song so much there is a very good chance it will make the movie that is going to be made about his life. I want to thank all my fellow JPF'ers for all of your encouragement over these past few years. God bless you all. I will paste the link below in case any of you would like to listen to the demo that was pitched. Best Always, Marvin Adcock http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=2718886&q=hi

I heard Charlie Pride in that song before the vocal even started. How'd you do that? Good song and a perfect fit for him. Congrats.

Hey Marvin, I listened to a bit of the song. It sounds like Charlie Pride for sure. I think Charlie and I are the same age. Hope it gets released.
Now I do have a song about George Jones if they ever make his life story!

I don't know what's more exciting? 1. getting the phone call from your plugger 2. telling your family and friends 3. hearing it on the CD when released 4. Opening up the royalty check when it comes in the mail After you experience steps #3 and #4 you'll have to let us know. I have goose bumps and it's not even mine. So happy for you Marvin, WOW!!! Can't listen now but will tonite!! Best of everything, Lynn

Congratulations, Marvin. Charlie Pride is one of my favorites. "So Afraid of Losing You Again" is one of the greatest country recordings of all time. Here's hoping your song beats it.
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Okay finally got to listen....wonderful!! Instantly likeable from start to finish. Love the clever switch from the typical phrase of "just look at the mess we're in" to your genious hook of "just look at the love we're in". Who did your demo? Great job all the way around, every syllable every note. Your plugger knew this was a good one right from the start I'm sure. Wow!! Keep doing what you're doing. I see a name Bizzack is that your co-write and if so who did lyrics/melody? Whoever did what, you guys did it right!! I see this was uploaded in 2005, is it just getting attention now? Best, Lynn

The best concert I ever saw was Charley Pride. All he did was sing. Nothing flashy, not much talking, just singing. He's always been known as a guy who helped new acts get going and he's always appreciated writers. He's one of those "if I could have anybody sing my song, I'd choose him" kind of guys.
Congratulations.

Marvin,
That is such wonderful news...you deserve it. You give all of us hope....and when one of us succeeds, we all succeed. I am so glad that you shared this news with us.
I listened to the demo and it jumped out at me immediately that this is a perfect song for Charlie Pride. It couldn't be closer to the type of song that he loves to sing....just a great match-up in my opinion. He will sing the daylights out of it.
So happy for you....and keep 'em coming....as I'm very sure that you will.

You know something Janice just said really rang true, "when one of us succeeds, we all succeed" and that's so true. It's like we're JUST PLAIN FOLKS but we're more so JUST PLAIN FAMILY and we share in the joy of our members in a personal way. Good point Janice!

Thanks again to all of you who have posted since my last response, and for all the wonderful comments from those who have listened to the demo. I agree that Charlie is a class act and I am very humbled and proud. We also hope that this will be the first of many cuts, and continue to work hard every day towards that end. Thanks again everyone!
Best Always, Marvin

Marvin, I used to fly small planes all over Kansas, but dammed if I can remember Strong City.
This proves to me that you don't have to be on the Nashville "inside" to get a cut.
I read a lot on these boards about folks who have been in Nashville for years, sort of waiting in line for a piece of the pie. That's the way it is everywhere, in any occupation. The truth is, that if someone is better, above the fold, they get the job first regardless of how long others have been waiting. This news makes me proud.

Thanks Polly, Roger, Ben, Herbie & Stan. I appreciate your comments and taking time to listen. I am not surprised Ben that you do not remember Strong City. It is a little town of about 600 located in the Flint Hills. Beautiful cattle country though.
We just layed down tracks last week on a new demo at Bayou Studio and we are all very excited about this new song's possibilities. The song is called ORDINARY DAY and if any of you would like to hear the rough mix I would be glad to post a link here. I am 57 years old and have been writing since I was a teenager. It has always been a passion and a dream that has gotten me through many rough patches, but of course you all know how that is. It gets in your blood and becomes a part of you.
Thanks again everyone, and best of luck to you all.
Marvin

Thanks Bob, and congrats on your opening gig for Clapton. He has always been a favorite of mine. Up until a couple of years ago I spent 12 years playing in a cover band and we played mostly Eagles and Skynard tunes. We played a lot of biker bars as well as casinos. I envy you!
Best, Marvin

Thought I should post an update on the Charlie Pride cut. He has done a pre-production demo of the song and will do a master recording the next time he goes into the studio, but they have not nailed down a session date yet because of his touring schedule. They are still talking about using the song in the movie about his life also. All very exciting stuff as you can imagine.
