For all the Pineyfesters and old time JPF poster-folk...I wanted to post an update on our good friend, Bob Young. I called him yesterday and ended up leaving a message. His beloved wife, Mary, whom he talked about all the time (but I had never met) called me back. Last year was a rough one for both of them. Bob ended up battling a staph infection (MRSA - drug resistant type) that infected one of his feet. He lost several toes. In the middle of dealing with that...Mary herself was diagnosed with lung cancer. She had to put Bob in a nursing home because she could not care for herself, let alone him at home. Mary is still dealing with her cancer issues so Bob is still in the nursing home. He cannot call anyone but locals from there...but if anyone would like to call and cheer him up...I do have his phone number. Mary says he would love to hear from folks. I am sure our buddy must get bored since he can't see well enough to use a computer.
I have so many hysterical memories of Bob at Pineyfests of yore...Blind Lemon Pledge...falling over in my chair...turning the AC up so high he froze the AC unit at Pineyhouse (when it was 98 degrees). Call or e me and I will give you his phone number.
Hugs, Bobbie
Let's show Bob some love!

Bobbie, I'll give you a call for the number. Bob is certainly a treasure, sorry to hear he and Mary are having a rough time. They have prayers coming.

Hi Bobbie:
So sorry to hear about good people with major health problems. Sadly, I never met them... but have heard so many positives from all of you... I'll be adding them to my prayer list. B-T-W... you have been sorely missed around here. Many have asked about Pineyfest and I hope you can let us know if it's gonna happen this year.
Happy New Year and best regards,
Dave

Hey Mike...tried to answer your call but my phone was out of juice. Plugged it in for a recharge...and called you back but no answer. LOL Left his number in a voicemail. I am here but my phone is plugged in out in the living room...so it is hard for this old lady to make it out there in time to catch a call (by the time I realize it is ringing). It's an age thing...the hearing goes, the vision goes...LOL Of course YOU wouldn't understand!!!
Hugs, Bobbie

That is tough to hear Bobbie. I was thinking about Bob the other day. Wondering how he was doing. I knew he was having some difficulties but didn't know it was that bad. Can you just PM me his number? Or call me. My number is the same. But just in case 269-760-2590

HIDee NashvilLady!
I'll join the Well-Wishers...just need Your Phone No. again...so I can call ya/catch-up a bit/& get His Phone No. Best to PM me here...I've not even read emails for last 3-4 days, it's still BUSY these days, tho not in a Highly-Profitable Way, alas.
DID try pennin' ya a nice long email...before Christmas...BUT after 45 minutes of typin', hitting "Send"...my Computer ate it up. (Long story, easier told over the phone.)
But..Not Much Has Changed around here..tho today, DID get a Front Man asking our price on Both Shop Lots/I gave him one. (Went thru some Hopes 2 Months Back with another dude...no go...so I'm not expectin' miracles this time either.)
I'll know by end of Next Week if I'm dealin' with Bladder Cancer...& by Mid Feb if I'm out to beat Prostate Cancer, too. Lucky for the VA & I'm a Vet, eh?
It's Always Something...Hope Bob beats His Somethings too! And You As-Well, I'll certainly Add!
Thanks, Once-Again, for So Many VERY Memorable PineyFests, Kind LadyChum! So Many of Us'd never have met Bob if it Wasn't For You & Dawg!!! I know alla those "Bongettes" never WILL Forget Ol' Bob..Man, those were some FUN Get-Togethers!!! (& yeah, I well remember that AC "Incident"...Good Preparation for the Weather We've HAD here Over A Week now!)
Talk to ya Soon!
Best Wishes & Big Apreciative Hugs, Ol' Stan

Hi Duke...
Blind Lemon Pledge was one of Bob's "personas". He was/is one of the most versatile singer/musicians I have ever known. He was awesome with the blues..as a matter of fact...the only blues song I have ever done was a collab with Bob. He maintained that in order to be effective at the blues, you had to have some malformation or problem...thus the Blind part of his persona. The Lemon Pledge...well...you just had to know Bob. He'd stroll in with a white cane and dark glasses and proceed to blow you away with his performance. At the time I got to know him...he wasn't blind...though he pretty much is now. Bob is a CHARACTER. We always talked about a bunch of the oldie but goodies putting together the DEPENDS Tour. It never happened...but it is still a great idea. (Could have been the ENSURE TOUR...I forget now...but you get the idea).
Hugs, Bobbie

I think you should just post the number here... that would make it easy for anyone surfing by to give him a ring when the mood hits them.. and if he gets a few crank calls, he might enjoy that as well! = )
If not, send me a PM with it and I'll harrass the old crank at inappropriate times! He'll love that! = )

I had a video of the bongettes that was great. I think it was three of the ladies (loosely used term) and they were really hilarious. But I think it was on my computer that was stolen.

Bob was kind enough to lend me his guitar when I played Pineyfest (although he did say it’s never been the same since! ) - That’s what happens when I’ve brought up listening to Pete Townsend. Thinking of you Bob Nige Classic

You might consider posting his address at the nursing home as well. I don't know him well enough to call, but I'd send him a card.

Hi Tampa...I emailed you Bob's number.
I "think" the video was shot in 2004 or 2005...it was in Jim Troutner's venue in the historic bank vault in Centerville. It was Dawg's last Pineyfest (in June...he passed away in July). Idamarie's brother was also there and passed away not long after. It was a bad summer for losing good people. I am sure there were other "bongettes" but I distinctly recall Tink and also Tricia (at different times). They worked cheap as I recall. LOL

Hi Doug...I will call Mary back and get his address...but keep in mind that Bob has very little vision left so reading a card might be difficult for him and Mary has a tough time even talking these days with her breathing problems. She got out of breath during our 5 minute conversation.
Thank you for caring! Bobbie

Thanks for the update, Bobbie. Bob is one of a handful of musicians from JPF I always wished I could collaborate with. I really enjoyed his music and his unique way of expressing himself.
My prayers go out to Bob and Mary, and hope they are at least able to rest comfortably.

Thanks for this update, Bobbie. I am so sad to hear about Bob and Mary's troubles. I wish there was something I could do... I have such great memories of Bob Young at Pineyfest a few years ago: hearing him play along with every performer, making up solos on the spot....Tireless energy! I loved the show we did in Columbia with Melody Guy and Harriet Ames I also laugh when I remember that night the air conditioner froze at Pineyhouse, too! I was SOO cold! LOL What can we do for Bob? Miss you...hope to see you soon~ Emily

I just got a note from Mike Siegel who said he called Bob (Mike lives in Guam, BTW). Mike reports that Bob is his same old upbeat self...and plans to get back online with one of those new computers for the blind as soon as Mary is healthy again!!! Thanks for letting me know you called him, Mike!!! You rock.
Hugs and happiness for the New Year! Bobbie

Hi, Everyone!
Spoke to Bob, yesterday during my lunch break at work. We had a nice chat but had to cut it short because his therapist arrived for a session. He asked me to post and let everyone know that he is over the worst of it and is feeling much better and in a couple of months he will be back home and will reconnect with us all at JPF. He spoke very warmly of our JPF family and he misses us. Although he is having severe vision problems, he is not completely blind, and with the help of computer software he will begin posting again when he gets home. He is still singing and playing music and writing songs. He sounded very upbeat and positive. It was great to hear his voice.
I had wondered why I couldn't listen to his song, Christmas in Chicago on Soundclick and found out that a radio station had picked up the song (which is why it's not posted anymore) and was selling downloads of it. The proceeds are going to charity and I think he said there was more than a thousand downloads of it. It has become very popular.
Thanks again to Bobbie who has helped us get back in touch with him.

I want to ditto what Jean said- despite his illnesses, Bob is still very upbeat.. and looking towards the future. We talked a bit about music in general, and the fact I called his brother when I visited Hawaii a couple years back- which is when I lost touch with him.
I want to thank Bobbie for posting and giving me the opportunity to re-connect. Bob is a role model for me in many ways.
