...but true!! This morning the Nashville Cowboy Church band, with which I am bass player, recorded our Sunday broadcast. It is a show and service with live audience and is carried on WSM radio Nashville, XM, Sirius, and World Wide Country Radio, as well as streaming live video on our web site during the show. Our special guest was Glenn Douglas Tubb, nephew of the Opry legend, Ernest Tubb. Glenn Tubb is a songwriter and has had hits on Skip-a-Rope for Henson Cargill, as well as songs cut by Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Dwight Yoakam and others. This morning Mr. Tubb played a song that he cowrote over sixty years ago, a beautiful, traditional country gospel song called Heartbroken, Forsaken and Alone. This was the first public broadcast of the song, because back when he and his cowriter wrote it, there was a problem with the publishing company who refused to release it. Well the new publishers have decided to release the song, so our band was honored to be the first musicians to play it in a public broadcast...the first release of a song by his cowriter in many years...a song that Mr. Tubb cowrote with...Hank Williams! http://www.nashvillecowboychurch.com/

Scott, Joe, Tom, Mark, Herbie, and Magne,
Thanks, fellas. We didn't know about this until rehearsal, it's something to tell the grandkids LOL. Quite a surprise for the new year. Congrats to Glenn Tubb on getting the ok for release.
Mike

What a great start for 2010! Does Hank Jr know about this? Is there a way to hear the song/lyrics? Good things take time! Happy you were a part of something so exciting. Best, Lynn

Does Hank Jr know about this? Is there a way to hear the song/lyrics? Lynn I don't know if Hank Jr. knows or not. I'm sure he'll find out. Jett too. LOL. I think it will be broadcast next Sunday on both WSM and on Sirius/XM Sattelite Radio on Willie's Place. You can check out the Nashville Cowboy Church link above for more info on it. I got to sing one of my songs today on the show, so you can hear that also. Sometimes I feel like a redneck Zelig.

That sounds like a fun and exciting opportunity. Thanks for sharing it with us.
It is interesting, I had never heard of a "cowboy church" until someone wrote a song about it over the weekend. I had to google it to see what it was all about. A very interesting concept.

Hey Mike, Well you won't believe this either but I have a LP by none other than Glenn. Bought it when I was on the Island of Guam about 1960/61. A really good release as Glynn was a good singer.
The Album is Entitled HEARTBREAK ALLEY and was released on DECCA Records. So when you see him again you can tell him an old Warrier has one, maybe the only one of his LP Records.

Nite, If you get on here: http://www.nashvillecowboychurch.com/you can hear it this coming Sunday Jan. 10, 2010, at 10am CST. Jennifer Brantley will be the guest and she will sing it again, it's going to be on her upcoming cd. It's not streaming anywhere yet. Thanks, John. Kevin, yes there are a lot of "Cowboy Churches." Ours was one of the earliest. Harry Yates is the pastor, he and his wife Joanne Cash (Johnny's younger sister) are the hosts. We had our 1,000th service a few weeks ago. Ray, I see him now and then, I'll be sure to tell him. He'll probably wonder who bought that album LOL.

Mike:
Congratulations. This is a triple play. I'd like to know more about the story of the original publisher and why they would not take action on the song? I'd also like to know how it finally reverted and how it came to be in the hands of a second publisher? It is unfathomable that a song co-written by Hank would not be pushed to the front of the line.
B-T-W, I could not get any of the links on the church page to actually play the song. Is it due to broken links or my failure to click in exactly the right place?
Regardless, I know you are thrilled to have been a part of this historical event. I'm so proud of you.

Dave,
I don't know the details of the publisher. I'd like to find out, I'm sure we will eventually.
No, you can't get it to play, it's not archived or streaming, it will air on XM next Sunday (I believe they are a week behind the live show) or you can hear Jennifer Brantley sing the same song again live if you get on the live feed on the website. Check the website for more info. Yeah, it was a thrill. We didn't know until the rehearsal.

Golly Mike,
One minute you're replying to Glynda's "Things happen for a reason" Post and say that "Yes, you believe that they do" which was why you were signing off and going to church....The next thing ya know, you Post This!

Hi Mike,
I just watched the video broadcast of the service from the Nashville Cowboy Church. It was such a blessing for me to be a part of this moving and uplifting service via the web and to "see" you and hear Jennifer Brantley perform the beautiful song. Thank you so much for telling us about this and allowing us to share this with you. It was simply wonderful to see and hear so many talented musicians...yourself included! I am so happy for you that you were able to be a part of this.
God bless you, Mike.
Kind wishes, Gail

Thanks, Gail. Nashville Cowboy Church is the highlight of my week. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. Jennifer did a great job on the song this morning, she's got a terrific recording of it for her new cd.
God bless you too!
