This is a bit of fun. Tampa Stan supplied the lyrics ad I wrote and recorded the music. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=687727&songID=8213627Let‘s Play With DNA (C) 2009 by Stan Good BMI and Jim Merrilees OK, We had us both a few drinks And we had some dances so whatcha think? So when the night fades to a shade of pink Let’s play with DNA (CHORUS) Let’s play with DNA. You Rub me right and I'll send some your way Life can get boring so whatcha say? Let’s play with DNA No, You're not just a number to me Why, this could turn into a family let's take precautions and experimentally Play with DNA (CHORUS) Let’s play with DNA. I am really happy that you are starting to contribute in the MP3 forum. I don't think this has ever been used as a pickup line before -- it's a hoot.
Interesting musical choice, pretty funny -- but well performed (also passes mark's under 3 minute test!).
Good one,
Kevin

LOL - reggae was not what I was expecting, Big Jim It took me a few lines before I even realized that was you singing. Is a fun tune - you can count on Stan to come up with an off the wall lyric like that. Music is perfect for it... Made me laugh - no small feat for a Tuesday! Scott

Hi Stan and Big Jim, Well, that was fun! Jim, I'm jealous your vocal range has such clear notes way up there, I lost mine years ago from smoking. Nice Belafonte, did you do that from memory, or did you listen to a few records first? I'm impressed however way you got there. Stan, have you been watching "the Big Bang Theory?" cuz your hook and overall lyric is sexy and geeky and cute, all at the same time, and sounds like a "line" one of those love lorn science majors might tender towards their female counterparts. I thought there could have been more DNA furniture in the barn, but I like the "boring" line, because it reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the movie Juno. Nice job, gentlemen! Mike

Thanks Michael. I did it from memory....LOL Neat to be compared to Belafonte....no one has ever done that before. I never even considered him when I sang the song. I have performed "Dayo Banana boat song" as part of my set in the past but that was many years ago.

Jim and Stan...
Super job from both of you! Man, this was a hoot! Loved it.
I agree with Mike about the precision and full-bodied presentation of your notes in the upper reigster. Like I told you on the last one...you have a set of pipes!
Comments on the the song: The lyric is stellar. Stan has a way with those off the wall subjects like nobody else. Couldn't find a word I would change. Great job, Stan! The vocals is fabulous. You already know how I admire and respect your vocal abilitites, Jim. I think if you cut back just a very slight amount on the echo/slap-back on the vocal, it would help. But, as I said, just the very slightest amount. But, since this is a preliminary work tape, I assume you wull eventually tidy a few things up along the way. Until you do that, perhaps my comment on that is premature. Also, genre-wise, I'd go with Ska Reggae rather than Pop.
This was a ton of fun!

Thanks Todd and Al...You are correct it was a hoot to make and Stan is the man for great hooks and off the wall subjects. The FX on vocals is on the high side as I for quickness used the monitor mixdown rather than editing the separate tracks. I will adress that when I get time..... easy fix.

Hi Big,
UH-OH! Big Jim and Tampa Stan, unleashed! This was such fun! Very clever/funny lyrics and to turn it into reggae was genius! You sound really good here. I was afraid you'd go with something like heavy metal Celtic, and I just don't think that would've worked.

This is such a classic...
I believe this could be the new Caribbean Cruise Line Anthem IMHO...

Hi Y'all, I tried to listen to this when ya posted it a while back...couldn't get it to play for me then. Glad it got posted up front again, 'cause I'd forgotten about it. Great job you've done here! I could hear this song bein' used in a movie soundtrack....in something like "Knocked Up" or "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"....that kind of flick. Very clever and well produced. yerz, Ellen

Hi Big Jim,
very enjoyable listen indeed!
Your voice has many colours, this one's so different from the "Letting Go" sound, you definitely know what you do when singing.
Only nit: there's a slight ... hesitation ... just before or at the start of the last chorus. I suppose it can easily be solved.
The Carribean style is a perfect match for Stan's lyrics, which are as good as usual. The hook's terrific!
All the best, yann

HiDee One & All, & a Big "Group Hug-&-Thankee!"
I was GREATLY-Thrilled when Big Jimmie put on his Musical Dreadlocks & banged this baby out VERY-Nicely for Us'ns!
I've sug'd Jim sing "In this situation, YOU KNOW THAT YOU SHOULD" to continue the Rhyme Scheme...& I've got a few Sugs-Sent on that "I'm gonna get my way" line that, to me, seems Over Over-The-Top..(But hey, I'm not the Guy Who's Singin' It..heh!)
Hopefully this song WILL help a few Partygoers Get Their Ways-On...(& maybe take some Precautions..too?) ;-)> God Knows, it's All-In-There...& "Airplayable" too, heh!
BRAVO Bro Jimmy, & THANKEE Folks for Your Kindness! Ol' Off-to-Dee-Islands Hisself... Stan

Thanks Stan I was wonderin when you would jump in. This was a quick mix and is just a rough demo to get the ideas over. All issues can be sorted out when it is recorded properly. I personally did not think the line is over the top but it is an easy fix to change it.

Hey, Jim-Migo, I'm always OK If You're OK...(& You Da Guy who's Singing It!)
My slight fear on that "My Way Line" is that Gals Won't Necessarily Dig It.
So Gals...this is Your Chance to "Give Us Your O"...Eh?
(I always aim at makin' The Singer Look Good...but I'll admit SOMETIMES they DO like us bein'-Bad...heh!!!!!!)
Back to Lurk Mode...& All Best Wishes, Amigo! Big Appreciative Guy-Hug, Stan

The beat was terrific. Felt right! Doesn't need too much more either.

Thanks Mike....believe it or not I have about a three and a half octave range (on a good day) and I have to adjust my voice to many styles from Abba to ZZ top as a session singer. I love the challenge of trying to change or adapt my voice. Not always gravelly. LOL Glad you like it....... coming from you it means a lot.

Stan, Your lyrics are unbelievable, really you got some b**ls (pun intended) to write this. But you lucked out by having Big Jim put this to music and sing it! Oh My God is that good. Killer actually.

I allus enjoy trying Something Diffo...(You Californians, I'm Sure, Understand...) ;-)> It doesn't ALWAYS Work..but when it does (& with Jim's Skillful Mastery) it's a Blast!
I'm as awed this came out Reggae as you are!!!
With a little luck, us Lyricists can come up with The Next Big Cliche..raise a Few Eyebrows..& even make a few Bux from this Music Biz... (So far, I've enjoyed settlin' for the first 2-outta-3, but ya never know!) All the balls in the world mean Nothin' 'till ya connect with a Music Genius who can Sing!!!
Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Words, Brother Tom...&..take Another Bow, Bro Big Guy!

Jim and Stan,
This one was just way too much fun, guys. Raggae was the perfect way to go with Stan's signature type of lyric....made me laugh all the way through. I wanted to dance around a steel drum or two...clothing optional...HA.
Very cool song.....music and lyrics so well matched IMO. I loved the listen and will listen again.
So glad to see and hear you on here, Jim. Hope we get to hear more of you.

This is the kind of tune that you hope some people just get into the groove of and don't pay attention to the lyrics TOO closely, because if certain people do then they're gonna try to ban it. And then CNN would post news teams outside your houses to capture on tape the "degenerates" who would write and record such a song. Next thing you know you'll be defending the song on Larry King Live. Very shortly you'll be jetting off to Majorca for a long holiday while all the prim and proper types do all your PR work for you and you just keep going cha-ching...
Oh, did I mention I like it a bunch?

Hi Greg.....At one time I would agree that the lyrics are a tad riske....But just listen to current stuff like R&b, rap or even some mainstream pop....this is as tame as a nursery rhyme in comparison.
Thanks for the visit and am glad you liked it. I alo hope it will pay for a few Spanish holidays....or even a USA visit to meet some of my JPF pals......Ah well I can still dream...

SHHH Bro Greggy...This Technique's supposed to be a Big Secret...(Remember 2LiveCrew..& how Well that PARENTAL WARNING Label spurred Record Sales!)
I've always thought "Filthy" and "Vulgar" would sell Especially-Well IF it was "Tastefully-Done"... (& I'm old-enough to remember when they called it "Art Movies"...heh!)
I'm actually pretty-BORED with all the USUAL Vulgarity in Rap Lyrics...(Yawn!)...but the UN-USUAL is usually a Good Trip! (I'm kinda bored-&-jaded with the Usual LOVEY-DOVEY Stuff, as-well...So..Thanks to Big Jimmy, we got us Something NEW...for The Moment..anyways!)
As for The Marketing...waal..I'm afraid it's All Been Done Before, eh? ;-)> But Hey, if it WORKS...who's complainin' all the way to da bank ;-)>
Thanks for Your Fun, Kind Visit, Amigo, & Thanks for The Backpats!

Let’s play with DNA (BRIDGE) Not Everyone agrees we're doing it right But love is blind so baby turn off the light You're what I want and I have the goods I have what you need if I’m not misunderstood In this situation, you know what you want Let’s play with DNA (Chorus) Let’s play with DNA You Rub me right and I'll send some your way Life can get boring so whatcha say? Let’s play with DNA You might hate me tomorrow well that’s just fine I know how women can all change their minds (CHORUS) Let’s play with DNA You Rub me right and I'll send some your way Life can get boring so whatcha say? Let’s play with DNA We'll have our fun I’m gonna get my way Life can get boring so watcha say Let’s play with DNA Hi Jim and Stan, Golly, if I had a dollar for every time some bloke suggested that to me.... Seriously though, and honest to goodness, I thoroughly enjoyed this. You've come up with a very very clever hook Stan...and Jim, your treatment is both unexpected and refreshing. The chorus is wonderfully inspired, especially this line: You rub me right and I'll send some your wayThe only TEENSY lyrical nit I had was at the very end: We'll have our fun [color:#FF0000]I’m gonna get my wayLife can get boring so watcha say Let’s play with DNA That second line takes a small step away from the "whaddya say" flavor of the proposition. Unless you were trying to show that he had sold her on the deal, in which case it's fine....I'd want to hear something more along the lines of: We'll have our fun I’m gonna get my way [color:#FF0000]TWIST AND TURNING THIS WAY >>>>>>>> a little reference to the strands of DNA, how they spiral?Life can get boring so watcha say Let’s play with DNA BUT, this is a teensy little matter, so totally KOS. As an aside, I thought this would be a great tune to get to the BioEngineers/Geneticist Association (or whatever the name of that group is). Can't you hear them piping this in at the annual convention in, oh, Las Vegas! OOH LA LA! Anyhoo J & S, a quality piece of entertainment. Reggae and Big Jim -- who'd a thunk it!? Regardless, thanks for sharing! Beth/"Jackie"

Thanks Beth for taking the time. This is only a first draft work demo so changes can and will be made to tidy things up. I will post an amended demo once the new demo has been completed.

Hi Jim, I would appreciate it if you could email it to me, I download a song of Ants that I really loved called "You can't run away" and gosh I can't find it, so if you email me, I know I won't lose it. Jim, can you come over here to Australia, and rub some of those Tuff words off on me, I need a kick up the butt, and I think I need you all here to re teach me, how to be tough hah, stick up for myself, and not let others take advantage of me, and more, hey. I'm gonna listen again, I love it Jim and Stan, very clever, and catchy. Hugs Michele
