Everett:
Your faith in Government efficiency is touching, but misplaced.
Letting the government take over most anything currently done by the private sector is a recipe for poor service, waste, fraud, and abuse.

If your government takes $15,000.00 tax from you and gives you free health coverage, you are out no money, and you don't have to worry about health coverage going up each year. Governments should be able to run health care cheaper than private/public hospitals can, just think of the buying power of governments when they send out tenders for medical supplies. Those bidding lowest will pick up billions in sales, so they will keep their profit margine small, thus saving millions for the government. Hospitals now keep a staff of people just sending out bills to insurance companies, with one supplier, government, most of this staff will not be needed, a big saving.

Everett even if it worked out that way the only way to do it is to take a gun and force people to pay. Supporting mandatory taxes is the same as supporting bank robbers.

Everett,
I think you are probably a good guy, but I am sick and tired of paying for things for people who won't raise a finger to help themselves and expect taxpayers to pay for all their needs. When you count up all the taxes I pay I have to work about 5/12 of the year just to pay them. If all the social programs get passed, it will probably go up to at least 1/2 of the yaer. Does this sound like a good idea to you?

John, I think that you must be working more than 5 1/2 months to pay your taxes. I'm sure that's just the direct taxes. That doesn't count the indirect taxes. If you buy a $20k car you are paying about $16k of that $20 in indirect taxes. Remember the mine owner passes down all of his taxes as increased price for iron, the steel maker passes all of his taxes down as increased prices, the car maker passes all of his taxes down as increased prices, the tire maker passes all of his taxes down as increased prices, and so on and so forth. The average tax burden in closer to 80% because all companies do that. So you are most likely working about 10 months of the year to pay taxes.

And you thought that 5 1/2 was a lot. LOL

No. I actually added up all of them, and included a generous amount for those hidden taxes. It comes out to around 5 months per year right now. I think that is plenty. I have cut my property taxes down to almost nothing and I don't buy new cars anymore. Almost everything I buy is tax free. It took a little effort, but I don't want to pay any more than I have to. What I really want is others to pay their fair share. I know you think this is robbery, but I do believe we need government for a lot of the things we take for granted in our everyday lives.

All,
I have read this thread with interest!
I spent 38 years in government and have been retired 15 years.(FAA)
Experience is the best teacher, in whatever work your are involved in.
The federal government is good and necessary for safety, food supply and laws to protect all the citizens in the USA and her Possessions.

The Federal Government is not good at many other areas: Immigration, Trade, Drugs
and a long list would be pages long.

The Federal Government has no Savings Account--All Departments spend to the limit, so their budgets won't be trimmed the next fiscal year. They pay too much for most every thing they buy. All of the Social Security Money is gone. The Tax system is regressive and unfair to almost everyone. I tried to save money in the areas I had some input on--The people above me, almost never wanted to hear about savings. So much money is lost (Our Money) --they never find any of the lost money.

Politics is rampant at all levels of Government. How can the Federal Government manage to start saving money after all these years of spending.

Health Care needs to be Managed outside of Government, but Revise TORT and control set regionally to let People of all states, have equal access to any plan anywhere--Supply and demand will take over--the too expensive plans, won't get very much business. NO MORE STATE MONOPOLY ON HEALTH CARE.

The uninsured group of 47 million is a large group --They can have their own Health Care Group! That's a large group, where business could make money. The free enterprise system works, when Government gets out of the way, and lets supply and demand be the equalizer.

The Federal Government is run without very much accountability, now we owe all these trillions.

Individuals have always paid their way in this country, and should continue to do so--but the value of money has fallen to 6 cents on the dollar, since I was in high school in the early "50's. Our value money will continue to fall, as China continues
to buy our bonds.

People of this country must realize, future generations will suffer, because the laws
passed today, and will come back and haunt our kids and their kids..........BE RESPONSIBLE---Use common sense on how much GOVERNMENT we need.

I have always believed in OUR PEOPLE and I am PROUD TO BE A FREE AMERICAN!!!!

Respectfully,

Mackie Humphries

Hi Mackie,

Agreed, with one addition. We also need to stop the invasion from the south and send the invaders back. That would save our country hundreds of billions.

Actually, on the otherside of that argument one can point to the corresponding decline of progressivism in the tax code with the decline of the standard of living. Sure, entitlements increased, but it is the inability to pay for them owing to the decline of progressivity causing deficits, inflation, and the subsequent widening of the gap between the rich and poor, not the "new deal" in and of itself. Republicans want to end the entitlements, and your on your own if your are old and sick, but the democrats don't want to do that, it's just not right, in my opinion, they want to rich to kick in more, a lot more. Methinks if you make 50K a day like Romney, you could probably live on 20K per day, if you put your mind to it.

I don't know, what would Jesus recommend? My guess is that he would side with the liberals.
