The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it.
The new challenge is to write a song that mentions some variation of the word "sin." (sins, sinner, sinning, sinned, etc.) The song could be humorous, sad, repentant, religious - whatever you want it to be.
Good luck to you!

Hi Jean,
I saw this new challenge using the word sin (you will find "sins" as well as "sinned" in verse 2). I wrote this song quite a few years ago.

SOME KIND OF MIRACLE
(C)1987 CG King
I'll never understand How someone like me Can receive so much love And receive it so free
I've sinned and fallen short In so much I have done But God has forgiven My sins every one
(Chorus) Oh, it's some kind of miracle What God can do He didn't do it just for me Oh, He'll do it for you Take all of the pieces Of your broken soul Put them back together And He'll make you whole
It's some kind of miracle What God did for me My life was in bondage And then He set me free
It's some kind of miracle How with just one prayer He heard my crying heart And showed me He cares
(Chorus) Oh, it's some kind of miracle What God can do He didn't do it just for me Oh, He'll do it for you Take all of the pieces Of your broken soul Put them back together And He'll make you whole
...Some kind of miracle Can be yours too Yes, some kind of miracle Can happen to you

Hi Jean - I think this should be challenge #28 - we've had two #27's already btw did you know you can delete your own posts? So if you do make a double post (like with challenge #27) just go into edit and use the delete option Cheers Nige

Crucible I Gave Your All Your Sins
(sorry Jean, I've been shown I'm still fawmin when I write 2 or 3 songs a night, but I think it's OK for the challenge, so here goes.....
Verse 1 Here we are, caught up and tangled again. Web of deception and sin, Still we play the part, For so long.
Verse 2 Will we let it go, it's gone way to far, Sin verses Gods shining star, Why we bleed his scars, I don't know.
Chorus Sin is like a brother and a sister to this world, Help us Lord we're taken in again, How did we get this way, Jesus give us vision, Pray we find the day, we help you with this mission,
(you teach)," Believe in me with all you have within, I took you to the cross, life will never end, Hold on to this new start and begin, Crucible I gave for all your sins".
Bridge We are here for them, voices of the spirit, Help them find the way, God's love let them hear it.
Tag I pray you persevere and wait for them, While you died to cover all their sins.

Jean (I like these challenges) I've had something in my head for awhile now about sin so I made myself sit down and right something for this challenge.
I am Forgiven © Vicki Ferloin-Shields-2009
I’ve done things I’m not proud of I have my fair share of regret But when I open my Bible I’m reminded not to forget
Jesus Christ gave his life For me up on that cross even though I have sinned I will not be lost He will leave the ninety-nine To come find me Though I sin time and time again I am forgiven I am forgiven
Lord, the gift you gave to me I will pass on to others too Forgiveness is a gift I’m called to give back to you
Jesus Christ gave his life For me up on that cross even though I have sinned I will not be lost He will leave the ninety-nine To come find me Though I sin time and time again I am forgiven I am forgiven
Sometimes I stray He still lays His hands upon my heart no matter what my troubles are He will never part
Jesus Christ gave his life For me up on that cross even though I have sinned I will not be lost He will leave the ninety-nine To come find me Though I sin time and time again I am forgiven I a forgiven

Hi Jean, I have two already written that meet your criteria. Here's one w/music that was a cowrite w/Kaley and the word "sins" is in the last verse: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6113579 “Gethsemane” (c)2007 Kaley Willow (c)2008 Lynn Orloff/Kaley Willow A garden long ago Bathed in a moonlit glow A peaceful place where silence would be broken Jesus fell on His knees God heard the prayer He breathed My Father will you take this cup away from me It was His time to die And as the hour drew nigh His fervent prayers continued without ceasing Though there was watch to keep Disciples fell asleep The fate of all humanity just hours away Bridge: Gethsemane, the garden echoes Echoes each plea, Gethsemane The weight of mankind's sin Came crushing down on Him Garden of prayer, Gethsemane, Gethsemane The soldiers came with swords A kiss betrayed the Lord But Jesus struggled not as He was led away He saw past Calvary He saw eternity He'd give His life to take my sins and set me free He'd give His life to show how deep a love can be ________________________________________________________________ Here's another lyric recently written with the word "sin" in the last verse from one of your previous challenges. “It’d Be A Shame”©2009 Lynn OrloffIt’d be a shame to waste a moment when it’s such a perfect day We could stroll through fields of flowers and I would pick you a bouquet It’d be a shame if we don’t rearrange our schedule just for this Just think of all we’d miss It’d be a shame to miss the ocean hear the waves pound on the shore We could run and feed the seagulls laugh when they would beg for more It’d be a tragedy of sorts to shun this kind of bliss Just think of all we’d miss Bridge: Oh what a shame if we dismiss, an opportunity like this When Mother Nature’s painted such a scene I’m making you an offer that I hope you won’t refuse Who knows where all this playfulness will lead…It’d be a shame to miss the stars tonight, let’s take a little walk I’d love to watch the moonlight kiss your shoulders while we talk To not take all this magic in, would surely be our biggest sin So darling may I ask you one more time For it would be a shame to pass it by

This is a good one. I have written lyrics concerning aspects of what is commonly referred to as sin, but if it doesn't have to be a fresh lyric I shall look through the archives and see if I can find one where I have actually used the word.

Hi Jean. I suppose this meets the criteria, what with the word SIN sprinkled in a couple places.
Born Into The Sin © 2009 Greg C. Brown
To every man there comes a time When prophecies and fate entwine. The visions once behind his eyes All come to pass. They come to pass but awfully slow.
The gypsy in the darkened room, Who sees tomorrow and its gloom, Has mumbled something about a spoon And food of life. The food of life we eat so slow.
CHORUS I ran across a holy man Who clutched a bible in his hand From which he read. We are born into the sin To live and die and live again, That’s what he said. That’s what he read.
When clouds grow black and winds are blown, The lightning strikes and thunder groans, It’s every man who saves his own Poor wretched soul. His wretched soul belongs to God.
CHORUS I ran into a beggar man Who held a bottle in his hand That smelled of wine. “It isn’t just perchance we meet,” He said as I began to weep. I had no dime. He said, “take mine.”
The earth is scarred with wounds of fear, Apocalypse is surely near, You may have time for one last beer Before you die. Before you die remember this:
You were born into the sin, She was born into the sin, I was born into the sin, We were born into the sin, That’s what I’ve heard.
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding.

"I HAVEN'T DECIDED (IF THIS IS A SIN)" (C) 2009 by Stan Good, BMI
I haven't decided if this is a sin Tho Mama warned me again-&-again "Men have only ONE Thing On Their Minds"
But I'm Inclined to do this with you Since you have promised Our Whole Lives Through (Plus, if you don't do it "You'll Go Blind"...)
STILL, I haven't decided if this is a sin Much as I have..enjoyed your skin Brushing close to mine as we lie here...
And you have tipped my Inclination To ignore Your Reputation (And Your Reassurance dulls-my-fear...)
(CHORUS) So I Guess This Is Love And What-It's-Made-Of (I'll Admit..The Feeling IS Sublime!).. But, I haven't Made My Mind Up IS This HOW I want to wind up: "Feelin' GOOD..with-WORRIES..On My Mind"?
I haven't decided if this is a sin But it's a DE-lightful Way To Begin You sure made-up for ALL I have been-missin'!...
I got new tingles, North and South Ever since you touched my mouth (& Thank-You for The Joy of your First-Kissin'!)
(Maybe Repeat Chorus...or) (TAG) I got new tingles..North & South Ever since you kissed my mouth You have answered All that I've been wishing!

Hello Jean. Here is my take on the challenge. (Number 2 of my self proclaimed 14 songs in 14 days.)
Douglas
Forgive Me Lord (For I’ve Sinned) (05/05/2009)
(Chorus) Forgive me Lord for I have sinned. The list she’s long, thick not thin. I’ll list them here so you can see. Forgive me Lord. Please forgive me.
(V) Lets start with greed, I want it all. The trophy wife, a crystal ball. My motto is, “Give it! Give it! Give it now!” I want the wealth, the scared cow. (Chorus)
(V) Next dear Lord is gluttony. Just like greed it controls me. I’ll eat and eat and eat some more. More scavenger than carnivore. (Chorus)
(V) Lust! Oh! Lord! I lust allot. “Just stop.” You’d say, but I cannot. It’s like greed and gluttony. I want. I need. Give it to me! (Chorus)
(V) Envy and pride ya that’s me. He has it all and so does she. They seethe, “Pride before the fall.” Well that’s not me. I have it all.
(B) You’d feel my wrath, I’d let you know. But I’m too lazy so let it go.
(Chorus) Forgive me Lord for I have sinned. The list she’s long, think not thin. I’ll list them here so you can see. Forgive me Lord. Please forgive me.

This is one that I found in my 2006 repetoire that contains the word "sin". It was inspired by a trip I took with a lady I have known for years as a friend to see a play in downtown Chicago on a very cold and windy winter day, remembering the hair blowing up against her face. Thought this was something worth writing about, and this was the result.
YOU AND THE WIND
c2006 Brian Beecher
Seeing your hair in the wind had an impact On my life wishing I could go back To that winter day so long ago When we were bundled up against the cold And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind
Living up to commitments can stretch your time Making you long for a simpler life Seeing you just that way had a calming effect You were at your very sexy best And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind
Our trials may have reached a critical stage Busy, stressed to turn another page That day really helped to grease squeaky wheels Amusement and relaxation at our heels And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind
With our relationship at a crisis point Suggesting we meet at some local joint To be given the once-over yet again To see if it is worth salvaging And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind Yes, it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind

For the heck of it! Nothing too worthy, just simple. Trying to participate more Chocolate Covered Sin © 2007 B.B. Grey v1 Your honeyed words Are so cliche I don't believe half the things You came here to say So take that heart-shaped box The one tucked under your arm 'Cause I'm through with loving you And conceding to your charm Chorus I know exactly where you've been And my patience is wearing thin Don't patronize me with your semi-sweet lies It's no disguise, it's just . . . chocolate covered sin v2 No, I'm not ready To compromise I've finally shined a light Through your dark alibis No way to sugarcoat A hunger out of control Tonight you want another bite Candy for your soul Chorus But I know exactly where you've been And my patience is wearing thin Don't patronize me with your semi-sweet lies It's no disguise, it's just . . . chocolate covered sin bridge You know I've got a sweet tooth, baby I won't deny But you can't satisfy . . . me . . . anymore Chorus 'Cause I know exactly where you've been And my patience is wearing thin Don't patronize me with your semi-sweet lies It's no disguise, it's just . . . chocolate covered sin tag Chocolate covered sin (And I won't give in)

Two for the price of one! Thanks Lynn. You also had sin in the bridge as well as the last verse. The Gethsemane story is one of my favorites in the Bible.

Here's an oldie. And to top it off, I use "debauchery and sin" - ha! Kevin MP3: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5494697 Must Be All That Gin (Lyrics: Kevin Emmrich, Music:Emmrich/Anderson) © Kevin Emmrich 2007Guest Lead Guitarist: ZeroG I’ve been traveling about Just wondering how you’ve been I’ve heard tales and rumors That you’re just about done in. Yea, You don’t look so good Must be all that gin Hey Babe, I remember when you were young, sexy and hot. You’d strut your stuff and knock the boys out You were always looking good, down to your skin It sad to see the shape you’re currently in Yea, You don’t look so good Must be all that gin It’s not too late to make a new start Some of the things you’re doing ain’t that smart You gotta change your ways, ya know begin again Give up this life of debauchery and sin Yea, You don’t look so good Must be all that gin Hey now babe, I’ll take you on back Maybe this time we’ll be on the same track I’ll get you back to the top of your game Just remember I might not do it again, But ya know, you're starting to look pretty good Must be all that gin Hey babe, you’re starting to look pretty good Must be all that gin

Sin Sisters © Joice Marie & Calvin Stewart may 3, 2009
Sliding down the bannister Running though the halls Stole cookies from the canister Drove mom up the walls
They never stopped Never apart They were sinister They were sinister
Twin sisters , sin sisters
Passed love notes in the classroom Wesson oil parties Their chatting made the teacher fume Snakeskin smarties
They never stopped Stole many hearts They were sinister They were sinister
Twin sisters , sin sisters
Just listen for the sweet hissing sound A double dose of this will take you down
Twin sisters , sin sisters
It's hard to stop Two wicked hearts They're sinister They're sinister
Twin sisters , sin sisters

Jean, This is an unfinished a cappella spiritual I was writing. I asked Letha Allen to sing it for me. She did a fantastic job. It was over in the MP3 forum for a while, but I just noticed this challenge, so thought I would post it over here. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7570646I'm just a sinner... And I'm nothin' without my Lord I'm just a sinner... And nothin' without my Lord I'll live eternally Because up on Calvary He died for this sinner He died to save my soul You're just a sinner.. And you're nothin' without the Lord You're just a sinner... you're nothin' without the Lord Unless you come to him and confess your wicked sins You'll die just a sinner Among the faithless horde I'm just a sinner... And I'm nothin' without my Lord I'm just a sinner... And nothin' without my Lord I'll live eternally Because up on Calvary He died for this sinner He died to save my soul

Jean:
I finally found the piece I told you I was going to post here, which probably fits the "sin" format better than the one I posted earlier, because it actually containes the word in the title. It was inspired by a magazine article I read about a town's effort to control vice.
STREET OF SIN
c1997 Brian Beecher
They talk people into parting with More money than they intend Even though they came with A considerable amount to spend
This could backfire at a later date The whores careful to manipulate Not to be late If they can avoid doing so
It happens on the street of sin You don’t know where else they have been They do it all because they know That they have nowhere else to go It seems you just can’t win On the street of sin
Relationship aren’t congenial They’re only there to wheel and deal His loved one’s acting out of character And so one night he winds up there
Matters he wouldn’t normally discuss Nevertheless she makes a fuss They seem to trust So they go out to his car
It happens on the street of sin You don’t know where else they have been They do it all because they know That they have nowhere else to go It seems you just can’t win On the street of sin
She said she owed a personal friend Making an effort to pay him back She took him for everything he had And the next morning police found him dead
It happens on the street of sin You don’t know where else they have been They do it all because they know That they have nowhere else to go It seems you just can’t win On the street of sin
