Michael. Please consider me flattered that you'd choose my lyric. That is, of course, if I understood the post properly. *laughs* I'm glad this one will finally find a home. Hey Stag, Oh yeah, you understood. I've just written the music! It's more like a Dire Straits song now... I'll PM you if there's any changes I want to make, and that would just be for singing considerations, and usually just "contracting" two words into one--kinda thing...metrical issues...so far no singing issues yet...so, yeah, this is fun! Mike

Beth, Sorry, I can't vouch for my eyes and brain sometimes. I read that as "years" instead of "tears." Yikes! The eye exam has been pushed up a notch on my "to do" list now.

Hi guys, One of the "not too many" songs I write that I feel as uptempo. Never mind the dots in the C--that's just the way I was hearing it. Prob'ly KK's fault anyway <G> Hey Wy: I'd like to take a crack at this one. Little outside my normal thing but not too far Scott

That's great, niteshift. (Oddly enough, I had a feeling that if anyone took a bash at my lyric it would be you. ) I would've pounced on this one too had I seen it early enough. Why be normal? Hey Big Jim, this thread is like a bubbling fountain of creative activity!

Just testing to see if the title will change if I respond to my previous post. Of course, if someone responds directly to another post then that "Nowhere" title will reappear.

Whoa! I had been watching and waiting for this challenge, but hadn't checked the Challenge Forum in a few days until I saw Mike's note. I sure hope it's not too late to submit a lyric. I posted this one not too long ago. I'm thinking country, but am open to any interpretation. Thanks. -Greg
Crazy Over Me © 2009 Greg C. Brown
I'm a little rough around the edges, Some might even say that I'm uncouth, That no self-respectin' girl could want me, Seems nothing could be further from the truth.
She was born into a life of privilege, While I got raised up in a two-room shack. Who would've thought that love could ever blossom mmm Between two kids from both sides of the track?
CHORUS But she's crazy over me, She must be crazy as can be. What else could explain this Unlikely fantasy? I could never fit into her High society, But Lord, I'm glad she's crazy over me.
Her mom and daddy never really liked me, They told her she must find a better man. She gave 'em back the keys to her Ferrari, And said, "He gives me more than money can."
REPEAT CHORUS And she's crazy over me, She must be crazy as can be. What else could explain this Unlikely fantasy? I could never fit into her High society, But Lord, I'm glad she's crazy over me.
BRIDGE SHE GREW UP ON CAVIAR AND WINE, AND PARTIES IN A MANSION ON THE HILL. BUT SHE WOULD RATHER SHARE A (COLD) BEER WITH ME AND A SMOKIN' BRATWURST ON THE GRILL.
Now I don't have a college education, Barely even got my G.E.D. And I'm not polished in the social graces, no But still somehow she's crazy over me.
REPEAT CHORUS Yeh, she's crazy over me, She must be crazy as can be. What else could explain this Unlikely fantasy? I could never fit into her High society, But Lord, I'm glad she's crazy over me.
REPEAT CHORUS She's crazy over me... ...Lord, I'm glad she's crazy over me.
TAG I'm crazy over her because She's crazy over me.

Oh My Gosh,
I hope I am not too late, and you know I can play music a little, but not how I want to lol. I have been wanting to get this song done for years, and I can not do it justice. So I am going to give it out with hopes that someone can finally do what I haven't been able to. I hope it's ok I post even if I play some? if not, just mark me off or let me know and I will delete it,Jim
Thanks so much,
Letha
I wrote this with a female southern/rock idea, for someone like Gretchen Wilson, but it could be a done male too, with one small change in parenthesis.

Ever Never ========== [VERSE 1] I was only six years old, and Hickman school was down the road, and Daddy walked there side by side with me. He paused there at the four-way stop, and waited for me to get across. Every step I took, I looked to see if he was watching out for me. I never dreamed he'd ever never be.
[VERSE 2] Freshman year was kinda tough, but Becky was my one true love. I'd wait all day long to hold her hand. Walked her home from school most days, but one day God just couldn't wait, and Mom was there to help me understand. Said she was always there for me. I never dreamed she'd ever never be.
[BRIDGE] I had a dream the other night, I made it to the other side, Mom and Dad were there to welcome me. I'd never dreamed they'd ever never be.
[VERSE 3] Winters come and winters go, but one year it was bitter cold, and Mom and Dad met Jesus in their sleep. We buried them and shared some words, shared some food, and shared the hurt, and we all shared our favorite memories of life and love and everything we never dreamed they'd ever never be.
[BRIDGE - repeated] I had a dream the other night, I made it to the other side, Mom and Dad were there to welcome me. I'd never dreamed they'd ever never be.
[TAG] I never dreamed they'd ever never be.

Lyricist only. I have tunes, but mostly in my head. Thanks for this opportunity.
(What The Hell's) The Question ============================== [Verse 1] Ever since we got together, you've been at my side, like a thorn that just ain't quite got through the skin. I ain't been able to escape, and every time I try, you tell me what a lucky man I've been. Apparently, you are the answer, to all of my life's lessons. But, baby, if you're the answer, then what the hell's the question?
[Chorus] If the question is how to survive a nuclear attack, waitin' in the shadows like a cockroach in a crack, I'll give you all the credit, and the pats upon the back, 'cause you're the answer, you're the answer. But when it comes to me, or where my life is destined, baby, if you're the answer, then what the hell's the question? What the hell's the question?
[Verse 2] Ev'ry time you come around, I play hide 'n' seek. But it seems you've played this game too many times. I should've thought about it more 'fore givin' you my key. Gotta change the locks before I lose my mind. You're the answer to my prayers, and I should count my blessin's.
[Bridge] I can take most anything, but, girl, I've started thinkin' that I should take up doin' drugs, or some really heavy drinkin'. Maybe I could find a way into Witness Protection. You tell me that you're the answer, but what the hell's the question?
[Chorus] If the question is how to survive a nuclear attack, waiting in the shadows like a cockroach in a crack, I'll give you all the credit, and the pats upon the back, 'cause you're the answer, you're the answer. But when it comes to me, or where my life is destined, baby, if you're the answer, then what the hell's the question? What the hell's the question?
[Repeat] What the hell's the question? Tell me what the hell's the question?

* I am glad to work on meter or have changes if need to work with music. Thanks.. Kimberlyinnc:) Rita Likes To Rock Rita’s danced the hustle under disco lights She grooved to the pounding beat of Boogie Nights Two stepped and boot scooted to Nashville and back Swayed with Marvin Gaye on the Soul Train track
She waltzed across Texas with Chris LeDoux Played her Gibson with B.B. and the Beale Street Blues Got Her Sexy Back with Justin and Timbaland’s pop Brian Seltzer played her a swing that made her hop
Rise But when The Who play Teenage Wasteland, she’s sixteen once again
Rita likes to rock (Rita likes to Rock!) Rita likes to roll (Rita likes to Roll!) She feels that rebel music down to her soul She shows all her Heart when the guitar takes control Rita likes to Rock Rita like to roll!
Instrumental Break
Rita don’t care for the bubble gum stuff The singers are kids and the music’s not tough She likes to roll like a stone with Dylan And drink scotch to the jazz voice of Billie
But when Mick demands Satisfaction, it triggers reaction
Rita likes to rock (Rita likes to Rock!) Rita likes to roll (Rita likes to Roll!) She feels that rebel music down to her soul She shows all her Heart when the guitar takes control Rita likes to Rock Rita like to roll!
Bridge Every sound influences the other, and magic happens when you put them together
(Quieter and slower) Rita likes to rock (Rita likes to Rock!) Rita likes to roll (Rita likes to Roll!) She feels that rebel music down to her soul She shows all her Heart when the guitar takes control Rita likes to Rock Rita like to roll! I said, Rita likes to rock (rock, rock, rock, rock) Rita likes to roll____________________

Just in case all the musicators aren't alwready busy I'll post one that seems like rock and roll.
"Boulevard of Love" ©hoffman 08
music's spilling out of bars up and down the boulevard and I see you perched up on the back of that pearl white drop top Cadillac
sitting at a traffic light I have to catch my breath and hold on tight
you look like a dream to me rocking and rolling down the boulevard of love come on baby let me see that light in your eyes turn green rocking and rolling down the boulevard of love
my heart's racing sitting still let's do a chinese fire drill honking the horns and running around hop in here girl and we'll cruise the town
let your hair float on the breeze riding way up high in my old Jeep
you look like a dream to me rocking and rolling down the boulevard of love come on baby let me see that light in your eyes turn green rocking and rolling down the boulevard of love
you can tune the radio I'll take you any place you want to go
you look like a dream to me rocking and rolling down the boulevard of love come on baby let me see that light in your eyes turn green rocking and rolling down the boulevard of love

Thank you Nigel, you are right. Well, I always did like this crazy lyric, guess it would fit best as a rock song.
Naked copyright © 2008 Brenda McBryde
V1 Takin' off with some guy from the club like cheatin' is your drug tell me that its not true slithering like a snake on the move each night hunting for your prey just wipe off that stupid grin because all hell is heading your way

V2 Does anyone see you through those lies and all your alibis wearing that smile so sweet it could melt the heart of any beast Slash me with your razor tongue and I'll rip off your disguise so drop your weapon this war is done

Big Jim,
I'm done with Stag's and mine.
Two questions:
can I post it here, or should I wait for the official thread?
can I use my Garageband host, instead, which affords everyone some nicer listening quality. It's not a competition, so I can't see how nice quality would be a bad thing, but I'll wait for your response, thanks.
Mike

Soooo, would it be permissible at this stage of the game to change a lyric to one that somebody might actually be interested in?

I'm not sure where I've been, but I am just now realizing what this is. Sounds like a great idea. Is there still time to post lyrics? If so, look below...if not then just ignore me This is country, female singer. I have no problems if you need to change something. If you are 'feeling' this one...go for it...I'll be waiting with my fingers crossed. TAKENYour Wild Oats (are making me crazy) © Vicki Ferloin-Shields 03312009 (VERSE) You turned our basement into a man cave Just a place for you to misbehave Then one more Friday night out with your friends tell me honey when will it end (CHORUS) Your wild oats Are making me crazy Should’ve been sown Long before you met me They are on my last nerve I miss the man I married The man I deserve-oh baby your wild oats are making me crazy (VERSE) You’ve been actin’ like a big little boy Always on the look out for your next toy I’m tired of the video games that you play On the bed where we used to lay (CHORUS) Your wild oats Are making me crazy Should’ve been sown Long before you met me They are on my last nerve I miss the man I married The man I deserve-oh baby your wild oats are making me crazy (VERSE) I remember great times we had together Stayed in bed all day loving one another Just kick those wild oats out of the door Come here honey I’ll love you more (CHORUS) Your wild oats Are making me crazy Should’ve been sown Long before you met me They are on my last nerve I miss the man I married The man I deserve-oh baby Your wild oats are making me crazy Your wild oats are making me crazy But I will always love you baby

As far as I am aware this challenge is still open. Entries are still being accepted. That said we cannot guarantee that all songs will get taken. It was a first come first served basis and it may be that the guys have got their hands full already and cannot take on any more.
Just as a footnote I am struggling myself just now as my music production PC went down finally giving up the ghost and my emergency standby laptop is not up to the job of music production. Heck it wont even play music. I cannot do a thing till I get a new PC. This might be a while as I have to wait on an insurance settlement and they are as usual dragging heels and stalling for time.

Since this challenge is still alive, I've taken the liberty of posting a more poignant lyric. It's been suggested that I try to get this song into the hands of one of the Children's Networks (St. Jude's or Compassionate Friends, maybe). Hoping maybe this is the place where somebody might pick up the gauntlet.
BTW, I have an edited version of it if it's felt there are too many verses here. But this is the version I originally posted. Thanks!
Give Me Something For The Pain © 2009 Greg C. Brown
I still remember where I was When they confirmed the awful news. Standing in a checkout line Complaining ‘bout the price of food.
My wife had called me on my cell; I knew but didn’t want to hear. “Are you sure you heard them right?” I stammered as I squeezed back tears.
I couldn’t even bring myself To say that evil word. Like a knife wound through the heart, The sound of it just hurt.
CHORUS Give me something for the pain, Take away this ache. I am hurting for my child And I’m afraid. (I’m so afraid). I wish someone would explain And give me something for the pain.
Our baby boy was five years old When the headaches first began. We knew something wasn’t right But we didn’t understand.
The doctors ran a thousand tests To prove that they just might be wrong. But each one made the truth more clear, Our little man did not have long.
Now I was never much on church, And had no time for prayer. But something led me to the rail, I said, “God, if you’re there…”
REPEAT CHORUS Give me something for the pain, Take away this ache. I am hurting for my child And I’m afraid. (I’m so afraid). Won’t you take time to explain? Give me something for the pain.
We buried him beneath the Oaks When the snows of Winter came. On his stone I placed a kiss And knew I’d never be the same.
Today, my boy would be sixteen, And asking for the keys to drive. Thinking what he might have been Keeps his memory alive.
Whoever said that time would heal Has never lost a child. I try to think of happy times, But it’s so hard to smile.
REPEAT CHORUS Give me something for the pain, Take away this ache. I am hurting for my child And I’m afraid. (I’m so afraid). Won't somebody please explain And give me something for the pain.

She's Not Crying Now (C)2009 by Michelle Chapman
VS She shoulda listened to her mama shoulda done the things she said mama had away with words every nail on every head Mama told her many times "girl he's not the one" She should listened to her mama when she told that girl to run If I could stop the watch and turn back time somehow I could take away the tears That she's not crying now
Chorus NO,she's not crying now We watched it unfold before our eyes we have no more tomorrows we only have goodbyes if we had only made a stand, had gotten through somehow but now we're left to wipe away the tears that she's not crying now
VS She was always such a good girl so trusting and so sweet He came riding into her naive heart and swept her off her feet We all saw the danger signs and we saw her swollen eyes the neighbors heard it nearly every night they heard all of her muffled cries they just chose to block it out pretending they didnt hear the anguish in trembling voice of a soul living in fear
Chorus No,she's not crying now we watched unfold before our eyes she has no more tomorrows and we only have goodbyes if only we had made a stand, had gotten through somehow but now we're left to wipe the tears that she's not crying now
Bridge
we just turned our heads and we've got to live with this somehow because we let her down she's not crying now no she's not cring now
Chorus No,she's not crying now we watched it unfold before our eyes she has no more tomorrows and we only have goodbyes if only we had made a stand, had gotten through somehow but now we're left to wipe the tears that she's not crying now
No she's not crying ....now _________________________

I thought this one might be more suitable if this board is still open.
Thanks for looking.
Fishing Pole You're Still My Dearest Friend
Verse 1 Fishin pole it's been a while, since you were in my hands, Three years ago last summer, we're out there on the sand, Strung you a line, we did fine, I remmenise again, Fishin pole you're still my dearest friend.
Verse 2 Little Rod it's been some time, since I spent time with you, The years have all caught up with me, so much now I can't do, I miss the days, I bait you up, and reel you in again, Wish I could hold you one more time old friend.
Chorus I sit here by the window, and stare out at the sky, Sunny day, a cloudy haze, your memory comes to mind, We went down by the river, and sat there you and me, On the bank with my best catch, as peaceful as can be, We shared great times together, I never thought they'd end, Fishin pole you're still my dearest friend.
Bridge My two hands now can't hold you, can't string you a line, I'll never reel you in again, I won't forget those times, I sat there at the fishin hole, me and you my fishin pole, They say it's heck when we get old, but some things gotta be.
Chorus I sit here by the window, and stare out at the sky, Sunny day, a cloudy haze, your memory comes to mind, We went down to the river, and sat there you and me, On the bank with my best catch, as peaceful as could be, We shared great times together, I never thought they'd end, Fishin pole you're still my dearest friend.

Michelle,
I have some thoughts for music on "Beautiful Catastrophe" if you're still interested. Let me know! I really like the lyric. It has a Carolyn Dawn Johnson feel about it.

I am throwing my hat in the ring with this piece from 2006. It is one of the relatively few I have that are upbeat and happy. Would love to see what one of you can do with it.
YOU AND THE WIND
c2006 Brian Beecher(lyrics)
Seeing your hair in the wind had an impact On my life wishing I could go back To that winter day so long ago When we were bundled up against the cold And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind
Living up to commitments can stretch your time Making you long for a simpler life Seeing you just that way had a calming effect You were at your very sexy best And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind
Our trials may have reached a critical stage Busy, stressed to turn another page That day really helped to grease squeaky wheels Amusement and relaxation at our heels And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind
With our relationship at a crisis point Suggesting we meet at some local joint To be given the once-over yet again To see if it is worth salvaging And it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind Yes, it would be easy to fall into sin Just remembering you and the wind

Old Tin Cup
Written by: Brian Merritt
Houses abandoned, foreclosure signs Hearts abroken, lone diesel whines On down the line to another town Sometimes this life it’ll drag you down
Down to the bottom where you’re lookin up At coins tossed into that old tin cup When they call this nowhere I know what they mean I fell off the path to that American dream Blame it on this recession no fault of my own All that I know is I want to go home
Sun comes up day after day People go to work It’s the American way But hands lay idle in my old hometown Where store fronts and factories are closein down
Down to the bottom where you’re lookin up At coins tossed into that old tin cup When they say this is nowhere I know what they mean I fell of the path to that American dream Blame it on this recession no fault of our own All that I know is I can’t go home
A friend of mine we worked side by side His body washed in on the risin tide When you’re down on your luck and there’s no place to run He chose to go down on the settin sun
Down to the bottom where you’re lookin up At coins tossed into that old tin cup When they say this is nowhere I know what they mean We fell off the path to that American dream Blame it on this depression no fault of our own All that I know is he ain’t ever goin home No we ain’t ever goin home No I’m never goin home

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
