heres a gospel one I plan to put on my Cd ..thoughts please ?? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=451624"Jesus knows my name" v I may never have my own line of clothes or a face that everybody knows but I don't feel the need too be on display just as long as Jesus knows my name and you'll never see me standing perfectly still in a wonderous pose way up on a hill but there's no higher status I can attain just as long as Jesus knows my name chorus and I'll sacrifice my day in the sun to be with the one ,that caused it to shine I don't have to have a star on Hollywood's walk of Fame just as long as Jesus know my name v no, the world may never hear my voice but I sing God's praise and the angels rejoice and that ole devil he just rants and raves cause he knows Jesus knows my name He knows me inside out,the King of Kings and I know Him personally when I stand before the throne,I'll have no shame just as long as Jesus knows my name chorus

Hi Heather!
It's so nice to meet you. WOW! You truly have a magnificent voice. It is simply beautiful. I love this song. I have listened to most of your work and you are a very talented lady.
I can tell you put your heart and soul in your work, and I must say that I truly wish you every success.
I am new to JPF. I posted a "Hello" on the General Message Board today.I also posted a couple of little "songs" in the creative challenge.
I'll be looking for more of your postings... and that beautiful angelic voice!
Kind regards, Gail

Heather,
This is really good. The verses are pretty fantastic...
These critiques are because you're putting it on a CD.
I think you should ditch the last verse... it loses the focus of "I'm OK in this world as long as Jesus knows my name". Lots of old time hymns end just like your last verse, but in a modern songwriting context it's weak. Also the 'know him personally' line doesn't fit your melody. Also ending with "and that ole devil he just rants and raves..." is a WAY better ending.
The melody of the verses is great but the melody of the chorus is a bit on the 'tried and true' side. The 'Hollywood walk of Fame' line is fantastic. I think you should play around with the melody and chords of the chorus... see if you can throw in a 'kink' or two to keep the listener more interested.
This is a really strong tune Heather, but I think you could make it just a bit stronger.
Peace,
Ian

Ian i was really wondering how the melody would hold up ! going to work on that some more ..and that last verse...Ive got some more ideas to strengthen that and maybe end like you said with the devil ranting ~thanks for listening !

Hi, Heather. Lovely voice. A joy to listen to.
The lyrics are cute but I wonder exactly what part of the Christian music world are you aiming for? Or are you aiming for that at all? If you aren't trying to write for a Christian market in particular then I think Ian may have presented you with a very good point.
The hook can take you either way, but you need to decide which.

Hey Heather - this really is beautiful. You have a beautiful voice. I agree with Ian about ending with devil ranting and raving, but it's beautiful either way.

Hi Heather,
If you know me by now you know I love simplicity and this simple lyric gets the job done. The Chorus lyrics seems to be a rough spot for me with the "that" in line 2 and "Hollywood" seems alittle too long of a word that has to be squeezed in there in the sing. You have:
I'll sacrifice my day in the sun and be with the one that cause it to shine I don't have to have a star on Hollywood's walk of Fame just as long as Jesus know my name
A possibility:
I'll gladly sacrifice my day in the sun, Cause when I get to Heaven, that won't matter none, (And) I don't need the neon lights, fortune or fame, I'm simply happy knowing Jesus knows my name/or I found contentment knowing Jesus knows my name
Best, Lynn

Heather,
This is really good. I'm with Ian in that I might either change that last verse or change the order of the last two verses. Other than that, I've got nothing. I liked your chorus melody. It sounded familiar, but I think that's really acceptable for a song like this, since the listener will be able to associate it with the style and sound of this genre. Good luck with it. As always, your vocal is stellar.

Hi Heather:
Nice!
I tend to like the fourth verse where it is - kind of brings the whole thing to closure.
Is a clever idea too - will make a great cut on your CD.

thank you all so much for listening and taking the time to comment ! Lynn,i did have it as hall of fame to start but then i went with the Hollywood walk of fame because they have the stars with names on them ..and it kinda went with jesus knows mine ...maybe if i were to sing it a bit different there it will work better...I'm gonna work more on the melody ..keep the basic feel of it but spiff it up !! thanks again yall

Heather, your voice is so good. The song works - it is complelling and effective. My only suggestion is to give a lift to the chorus.

Hi Heather,
Lovely singing as always, and a good song. Am looking forward to hearing how it turns out. As you are going to work more on it, I'll leave comments until then, but hope that straightforward style remains. I think it suits the song.
Cheers,
Alan

Hey Heather, How ya doin' girl? No American Idol contest for us this year I guess.... BUT -- just as well. I'd hate to think you were working on something for them (as much as I love the show), when you could be singing songs like this. Very pretty, strong and moving. I also enjoyed your movement from verse to verse, ending with the hook on each one. And I love that image of the devil ranting and raving (and that you did not afford him an upper-case "D" !!) Needless to say, your voice is as gorgeous as ever! Keep up the good work, and good luck with the your CD -- I'm fixin' to buy one when it's done!! Take care, Beth

Howdy Heather. Double H.
You got some pipes there. Good song too. I say watch that reverb like a snake. It can sneek up and bite ya. What I noticed on your song, is that the reverb holds on to those nasty little frequiencies that carry that "sssssssss" sound.
I got a little brace holding my front teeth together (you can't see it cuz it's in the back) but it's a real bugger when it comes to "sssssssss" sounds. I've been bit many times, and I fight to hold my mouth right when singing.
God bless you and your music,
Larry~

Great job. My only nit is the reverb (which as previously stated accents your S's). But that's just my opinion, as I love drier vocals (especially with a voice as good as yours).
Keep it up,
Mike

Really great! Just a good country/gospel song with a nice melody and a good hook. Its not my personal taste, but I know quite a few people that would and do listen to this kind of music. Great job.

Hi Heather,
Enjoyable and inspirational from start to finish, and some of your most soulful singing as well.

Well written and well sung and a good message. It's not how well the world knows us, but how well God knows us, that is what is important. What we do in this world is only important as long as it is acceptable to God. Many of this world's heroes are enemies of God, God knows their names but not in a good way.
