The guy is incredible. Last night my wife and I went to hear Chick Corea and John McLaughin's Five Peace Band with Kenny Garret on saxaphone, Brian Blade on drums and Christian McBride on bass.

McBride blew us away.

Switching back and forth from electric 5-string to upright, his fusion kept up with both Corea and McLaughlin. Fluid outside the lines melodies and long machine-gun riffs played with precision and feel, McBride gradually moved from support to solo throughout the concert. Their final song, Dr. Jackal, Jackie Mc Clean's bebop piece from the fifties, later covered by Miles Davis, began with a long intro by Christian NcBride. The bassist took it from a grooving blues gradually going out and out to a blistering bebop segment and moving to a bowed bass melodic denouement that would be the pride of the greatest scat singers.

Check this guy out. Bass Player Magazine wrote about him about ten years ago when he was a young gun who just blew in from Philly. Nowdays, he's been touring with McCoy Tyner, Diane Krall, Pat Metheny and Sting, and most lately, of course, with Chick Corea and John McLauglin's Five Peace Band.
