Steven, your story is truly inspirational!
Thank you so much for sharing your passion, struggle, persistence and triumph. I really needed to read your story today! It has served to remind me of why I do what I do, and to never, ever give up - no matter what!
Warm regards and big, big hugs to you.

Steven, I read all this and I was a puddle. I've been solidly supporting indie artists for many years and I've got two in particular I'm plugging now that I've got big hopes for. Thank you for showing us all that if you keep chipping away, no matter what size your pick axe is, that it can happen!

hey JPF-ers, Thank you for all of your wonderful comments and encouragement. A quick update... I played the show with Kevin Bacon and Michael Bacon's band, the Bacon Brothers, and it was amazing! You can see pics at www.stevenbacon.com/bacon_bros and if you wish you can read a review of my performance entitled "Local Bacon Compliments the Brothers" at: http://www.bostonmusicspotlight.com/article.php?id=1624(i'm "local bacon") it felt like all the stars were lining up for me that night. I got a great reception from the audience, they laughed at my awful jokes, the songs went over great, and nothing caught on fire. The people running the venue (showcase live) were fantastic, treated me like a star, and have asked me to come back. I had an unforgettable time with the Bacon Brothers and we will be playing together again! Michael and Kevin Bacon made my wife and I feel like family. Both of the Bacon brothers are very talented, down to earth, kind, and generous. We spent a few hours with them before and after the show having dinner and great conversations. It was awesome to share the stage with them and to be given a glimpse into their world. other developments, i'm following up on a producer from mtv who has asked me to submit some of my music for possible show placement... and that's thanks to Brian Austin Whitney. The mtv producer read about me in Brian's newsletter and contacted me. on the downside, i didn't get picked up to play any of the big shows like Ellen, Letterman, Conan, etc... Still trying my best to keep running with this momentum. thanks again for your support, -steven www.stevenbacon.com

Amy Fairchild.. she rocks! Is that the first time you met her? If you see her again tell her I said hi. I first met the Bacon Brothers in Merrillville Indiana when I was at their show hanging out with Cindy Alexander, a JPF Female Artist of the Year Winner. Amy Fairchild has been in the running for that in the past. (I don't know if she entered anything this year).
Now you're 1 degree of separation from Kevin Bacon and all your friends are only 2 degrees away and thus very closely connected to the rest of the superstar acting world! = )

Not only is this a terrific story, Steven, but you tell it so well! Your storytelling expertise apparently doesn't stop with songwriting. I strongly recommend that you think seriously -- and work seriously -- at writing longer prose pieces, fiction or non-.

a big heartfelt congrats steven... to me this is a story of persistence and hard work but also the fact that God clearly has plans for you. i know we make also make things happen, but it is funny for me to look back and see how even with all my effort god was quietly putting things in order for me in spite of me. how elegantly he arranged all the peices that had to fall in place that day, and what a dose of love and grace you got to experience up close and personal. those moments are so humbling and extraordinary.
i have to say, i just went to your myspace page and your music has left me in tears. i will post your blog and forward your links around, but something tells me you're not really gonna need it.
anyone who wants a delicious treat today go give his tunes a listen. you can also hear "the big moment" on stage (so glad you got a recording of that steven!). i can hear the strain and hard work in your voice that you're talking about, but i think it sounds great. looking forward to picking up a CD!

Hi Steven,
This is one of the greatest stories I've ever heard. I was in tears and grinning like crazy by the time you made it to the stage in your story. Just, wow.
I hope many, many wonderful things are happening for you. Enjoy every moment of this time and know that we're all cheering you on, with full hearts, and wish all the best for you and your wife.
And now I'm off to listen to some of your music...
Best, Jennifer

We need to get a follow up with Steven on this. It will be interesting to get a hindsight follow up and see how that changed or didn't change him going forward in the long run.

I saw somebody reading this thread, so i read it. What an unlikely scenario, anybody know how it turned out for this guy?
and did I read correctly, his name is Steven BACON, and got a gig with the BACON brothers, but they are not related?

I seen this thread was bumped up, so I had to check it out. What a spectacular story, and such an inspiration!!! I too am curious to how things turned out for this gentleman.
A friend gave me a plaque as a gift years ago which says "If you can dream it, you can make it so". So I always keep that in mind as I venture on.
So glad to have had the chance to read this.

And yes, I did as you asked - sent the the link to my son who lives in Australia, that him to send it to all his buddies. PS. The story deserves to become a movie screenplay itself
