Well gang,

After much going back and forth on this, it occurred to us if we wait til my medical issues are resolved BEFORE getting two new critters, we'll never get 'em. So we surprised the kids and went and picked them up yesterday. grin They are 9 week old male litter mates from a shelter...The submarine gray one is "Little D." (to be changed, per Charlie's direction, to Little Dave when he turns one, then Little DAVID when he's fifteen crazy ); the black and white tuxedo is "Milo". The former is a devil cat -- not using his litter box...it seems he's found the litter we provided not up to his liking (I wonder if he likes his claws.....only KIDDING!), whereas my favorite MILO is doing everything right.
But they fight so rough! It's been a long time since we've had kittens around -- by the time Samantha and Charlie came along, Murphy was already 10 herself -- so it's been interesting. I think the kids are more skittish than the kitties!

At the very least, they're keeping me on my toes (which in truth is a dangerous proposition)!

Once they're a bit more relaxed, I'll get some other pictures. I had some really fun captions on these, but you'll just have to take my word for it and use your imagination.

Hope this works!!

Beth

They are cute. Probably deadly, too. Better watch yourself.

Hi Heidi,

You're looking pretty chipper this morning! I'm not sure cleaning up kitty poop is adorable, but they tell me we need "Patience"!

They are really cute though....

Thanks,
Beth

LOL! Regarding the third photo: I know that look! He is, indeed, a devil cat. grin

One of Jackson's siblings that we gave away was named Tas (because he looked and acted like a Tasmanian Devil). I always regretted not keeping him. I'm glad you have a devil of your own though... smile

Great pics, Beth. Congrats - these are the fun days! grin

Well Glynda,

You'd a been in a heap of trouble, b/c there were six 7-9 week old kitties in the room with my two rascals...and upstairs was a fresh litter of 3 week olds, still nursing with mother "Mama Mia".

Both kids are still a bit skittish, but when we were leaving, of course they were sad, since it was basically Cat Heaven (the one here on Earth that is)....so Charlie says, "Hm, that was a pretty great place. I think I'd either like to live there, or right next door. Certainly not two houses away." grin

They both have their little personalities alright...and we might have had some success -- Devil (Little D.) peed in the kitty litter this morning! Not counting my chickens yet though!!

We'll keep you posted!
Beth

Oh Scott,

I'm so glad you came by -- I was going to PM you later today if you hadn't.

As wonderful as it is and is going to be (I HOPE eek !) , I did get a bit emotional, thinking about Murphy who we lost in April. One of the other kittens looked a bit like her, so it was a big jumble of emotions.

I have always had female cats...but everyone was telling us to get boys, because they're so playful. Man, if the wrestling matches these two get into are just "play", I'd hate to see them really fighting. I spoke with the foster mother last night, to discuss litter issues, and I DID mention their pension (fun rhyme) for boxing and so forth. She laughed, and said, "oh yes, the play really rough". So I guess that made me feel better...

The third picture I was so glad I captured (I'm still trying to get the right lighting, etc...they move so FAST....)....I got it particularly for my sister, who has recently got HER replacement kitties...but they weren't brought in at the same time, nor are they related other than by species....She's had them for over a month together, and she can only let them be together for up to five minutes until they get into a big hissing spitting clawing match. So as of now, one cat has the front of the house, the other has the back. I'd be a nervous wreck.

ANYWAY, it appears my Tasmanian Devil is "normal" -- relatively speaking!!

Hope you all are doing okay....

Take care,
Beth

Whoops, forgot you Peaches,

I totally believe in reincarnation....whenever they scratch me (which they actually haven't done -- because I'm covered with orthopedic accessories - ha, jokes on them!), I figure they'll be using their "Karma Claws".

Like the old saying goes, "Payback's a bitch -- then she sneaks back in in a cat costume" ...

All joshing aside, they're actually very cute. As for getting used to all their "quirks", it'll just take a little patience.

Later,
Cream

RED LATER DAY!

Little D. has officially used the litter box for numbers 1 and 2 today!!!! grin Albeit, they were preemptive strikes -- I saw him moseying towards his "litter box of choice", this big play tunnel -- so picked him up, plopped 'em in the box, and he actually stayed in their long enough to use it!

YAY!!! Now I can get down to the fun task of single-handed pooper-scoopering sick !

AGAIN, I ASK -- WHOSE IDEA WAS THIS???

Ooo. And you used red letters, too.

I always thought poopscooping (scooppooping? *was* a one-handed activity. I refuse to get both hands dirty doing it.

Kudos to Little D., even though this may be only a temporary aberration. Y'know, there's probably a song in all this...

Alas, you were right Joe. Little D. is playing with our little human brains. I think though he might have been agitated by the application of his anti flea etc. medicine. What a wussy pussy. He peed in his tunnel again....gotta get rid of that, and keep an EYE on him. I'll watch him like a hawk!

It's still a good day that he KNOWS how to do it, he's just being a little pisser -- literally.

Thanks for checking in....

Thanks Kaley,

They are indeed a handful. We have them temporarily housed in the basement, until they get accustomed to their new surroundings...and they've taken the place over already! The hard part for me is going up and down the stairs so much.

But hey, I'll survive! There are worse things to be worried about!!

And they are so dang cute. OH yeah, Little D is definitely turning into Little DEVIL.

Thanks for stopping by Kaley. Hope all's well with you....

Beth,

So cute...yeah, the black and white one looks like an angel...! That one pic looks like he's found a safe hiding place from his brother! grin

Hey, Beth. Cute kitties! They look like a handful. I know they'll bring you joy, though.

Hey Kristi & Tricia,

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the new family members. Did you know that these guys are likely HALF-brothers? Apparently those hussy mommy cats, when they're in heat, will take on the whole neighborhood....accounting for a plethora of styles of kitties. In all my days, never knew that...but it seems so obvious now.

I think Little D. (the gray one) is bi-polar grin . He's all snuggly and purry one minute, then he goes into intergalactic warfare mode on his bigger brother Milo. Milo, however, tends to run away, sometimes fights back, but as a rule "wins" over Little D. because he's a spectacular pooper. Talk about regimented!!

We're currently keeping them in the basement (it's a regular 400 sq.foot re-finished room), because they're getting neutered next month, then two days later we're off to Florida for a long weekend (anybody live near JUPITER???)...and I don't want them to be stuck somewhere when the pet sitter comes to look in on them. BUT, it's killing them! They are, as you KNOW, CURIOUS critters, and they hear us upstairs here, and they scratch at the door to come out. I feel badly for them -- but less so as I admire the intricate pattern of scratches they've delivered to me.

OH well, will try to put more pics up soon. Milo is growing like a bad weed....

Meow for now,
Beth

Hi Jean,

In truth (SSSHHHH!!!), I'm sort of partial to "Little D." myself. The black and white tuxedo is fairly common, AND he is still very sweet. But my submarine gray, man, what a lovebug. I just got back from their 2nd round of shots and stuff, and now that they're home, they're purring like mad!!

Thanks for visiting...I'll put up some new pictures soon. Little D. now weighs in at a hefty 3 pounds even, while his brother Milo tips the scales at 3 lbs., 4 oz.!

Meow for now,
Beth

Hey Emily,

Thanks, they are really adorable -- especially right now, b/c they're sleeping! I took some pix last night, I'll try to post some updates later.

But they are rambunctious -- it's AMAZING to me how rough they play...rolling around, kicking with their little legs, biting (like little vampire kitties)...but then they're best buds and sleep on top of each other, so I guess is really is "play".

Hopefully, they will learn stuff, too, so they can be good Children of the Night.

Chloe (the vicious wildlife terminator) was torturing a field mouse last night, and letting Emily the kitten watch-but-not-touch. So today, Emily had caught herself a field mouse (it's that time of year)--only she was lying down *petting* it. (The mouse was still scared to death.)

Can't wait to see your photos.

Hey Peaches,

I always thought those were little "gifts" they would leave at our front door...but according to the experts (who apparently have spoken to cats at length about this matter), they actually think of US as their children, and they are teaching us how to hunt. I'm not so sure about that though...since ole momma seems to be skipping a few steps for us. It would sort of be like me taking my kids to the meat counter to learn about hunting for a nice leg of lamb. crazy

Gotta get some of the new pictures up....they're growing like bad weeds (that's a fun hook -- little beanstalkerish, but workable perhaps!)

Later,
Beth

Cream, just a thought. Don't mean to hijack your thread.

I don't think cats bring home game to teach us how to hunt--though I'm not sure why they do it (cats, in my opinion, are totally alien intelligences). A lot of cats who have lived with me were technically employees--their job was wildlife control--and their "presents" may have been to show me they were doing their jobs. (Had one old Siamese cat who would regularly bring home things that were Rather Large. She was very good.)

War story. When I was city manager in Vale, oregon, we had a gopher problem at our airport; they would tunnel under the runways, which, if you were landing a plane, was a Very Bad Thing. Found out the letter carrier from the post office was a trapper in his spare time, and I hired him to get rid of the gophers. I told him I had to have invoices in order to pay the bill, and he said, "Fine. I'll bring you pelts." I loved it...

And now you can return to your regularly scheduled programming...

Peaches

Hi Joe,

I agree, that's what I thought too. Maybe if we keep saying it enough, THEY will refer to US as the experts.

We had a couple of terrors, too. One cat, Piglet I believe (part of the charmingly named litter of Piglet, Biglet, Bobsy, Dobsy & Blacky wink )caught us a nice BAT and brought it right into the house. Natch, it had barely been played with yet, so he was one frightened bat. I don't recollect if it was near Halloween or not. Of course, we've had tons of black cats, so I guess that qualifies too.

Anyhoo, our latest little fiends have been released from the dungeon as of this afternoon. It's a hoot watching them explore, eyes bugging out of their heads. The real test is going to be dinner time and of course "use-of-the-facilities" time. We've got boxes on each floor, but who knows. Right now, they're both asleep in the novel condition -- a bright warm band of sunshine. AHHHH, life is good.

So ciao for now,
Beth

Yes, indeed, in my case, that line applies to kitties, too....These two are too cute....

Hey Sam,

Your quote rings quite true, and it sure was the case with our last cast Murphy. We're loving these two, but they are SOOOOOO rambunctious -- two teenage boys (in cat years) I suppose, staking out their territory. eek

I'm going to post some new pictures soon, but in the meantime, you can see how Milo (the black and what one) has grown, in the thred "Iron Head's Arch Enemy Milo".....

Thanks for taking a look.... smile And hope all is well with you....
