a new non profit internet radio station in california wants to play my songs......no money-just getting em out there to more folks.....looks good on the resume and plugs the singers who do em.....in fact the station owner wants to do interviews with the singers as part of his programming-behind the songs etc etc....one co-writer has agreed.........now i got 2 more to ask.......the station will crank up in october and i know he is looking for more music and programming........he put a post here in JPF to that effect.....personally -given the brutally competitive arena we are in-i dont myself mind taking chances.......its the old-ya never know what will work angle.....i will give the link for the station here if you want your songs to get some play on a california internet station.......might not be for everybody but i myself see this as part of marketing-the more stuff is out there the more chances somebody will wanna pick up the songs for major singers or license their use....... http://www.blogcatalog.com/blogs/kspaz-radio-looking-for-comedy-and-music.htm TOM

Hey Tom,
Best of luck to you and them. It's another angle to get your songs out there.
I took a quick look, but am not sure how it will go.
Because the 'programming" is precisely that, it mimicks a tradional station, but is only operating 5hrs, 5 days a week.
That, combined with the competition of the new model i.e. make your own station, or play on demand, ( eg. last.fm or iacmusic.com or soundclick.com ) , I think it really has an uphill battle.
That's not to say it's impossible, and it might find a niche market, but it's very difficult to achieve. My bet would be it will be closed within 6 months. I wouldn't bother too much, in pursuading your co-writers, if they felt differently to you.
Not to p*ss on the parade. I sincerely hope that I am made to eat my words.
cheers, niteshift

i know what you mean niteshift
no prob at all buddy........i have no delusions-this aint a commercial station or X/M or SERIUS or whatever.....but the guy has a pretty good track record in the entertainment industry....and as we all know all too well-its all about who you know or can get to...alot of why i wanna do this myself is the old-ya never know factor......i hear folks in nashville say they wouldnt have made it except for the weirdest things they did-like going on a tour of new england or whatever...any of co writers aint up for the idea-thats cool....just something i am trying and in our biz unfortunately we gotta do so much marketing and networking every possible angle...but you speak very wise words and i thank you for your input about all this......best of luck with all your career moves in music
p.s-if it only is on the air 6 months it will have outlasted alot of the people who have left nashville in less than six months.....buy greyhound stock-the nashville bus station alone will make you rich-they come and they go..

..buy greyhound stock-the nashville bus station alone will make you rich-they come and they go.. Hey Tom, Ain't that the truth ! But you never know if you don't try. It IS from the weirdist angles, and the strangest of circumstances that success happens. It usually occurs when someone heard of something that you did with someone else, but didn't really like that, but then liked what YOU did, and somehow offered you something you weren't expecting, then those guys passed their stuff onto someone else...etc Oh, I think I've just descibed the dreaded "networking" word. But it is very true. If you don't put it out there, who's going to hear it ? If you don't work with others, then who wants to work with you ? Take all the angles, take all the back roads, and we'll all meet up for a beer when the shouting is done. Best of luck ! cheers, niteshift

Tom, that's great news. Any play is better than no play. If your song sits collecting dust, so do you!!!!

Oh heck, Thought I'd throw my hat in the ring too. Tom encouraged me to send a few songs in to the fella out in California, and whaddya know? He liked all of 'em! Needless to say, this is very exciting for little ole me... And for a very nominal fee, I'm sure we can make arrangements for autographs well in advance ( !).... Thanks again Tom for the gentle push!! Beth
