It's been a while since I last posted, so while I'm catching
up hope I can get some opinions on this one.

Title
Let It Go

You spend your time
With friends so fine
Who sip their wine
But I, I’m more inclined
To have a beer or nine
Than to toe the party line
You move in circles
That don’t fit with mine
I’m so bored at soirees
But that’s where you shine

Chorus
Let it go
We gave it a shot
But I think you know
This thing we have is
Going nowhere
Times come to let it go

V2
Your so organised
You can’t abide
Letting things slide
But I, well I just glide
Take off and ride
No holds no ties
So why do I miss you
Every time I’m away
We’re so very different
Why is it so hard to say

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
Still something special
Happens between you and I
This thing we have going
It won’t let us say goodbye

Chorus 2
Let it go
We tried to stop it
But I think we know
This thing we have
Is going nowhere
So we just have to let it go

Repeat C2

Tony,

Good to see you back. I have some thoughts on this and will come back. I'm about to go do the suburban mom thing (i.e. trip to Target). I'll pop back in on this later.

Hey Tony:

It's got a cool vibe to it. See what others say - I thought the vocals weren't quite sitting in the mix right - too out in front or something. Can't put my finger on it.

Thought some harmonies on the "let it go" part would sound cool....

Hey Scott, could be right about the vocal, I might be getting
too upfront, not usually my style, mostly hide in the backround,
I had the same thoughts about harmonies but haven't persuaded
anyone to help out at the the moment, also want to add a little
whaooo ah oh oh (if you follow my musical terminology lol)
trailing after the "let it go"

Thanks for your advise,

Tony.

TonyA,

Scott's on target with the vocals. They are fine, just too upfront. You are on top on the band and not with them. Interesting rhymes with everything going with time, fine, inclined, nine, line .... Maybe too much?

Tony,

I listened to this again tonight. I like the music to this. I suppose Scott is right about the vocal. It does sound a bit out in front of the tune. I suppose how you want to deliver the vocal could be a factor in this as well. I like the first verse because you have these details showing the contrast between the couple. There's also a little self deprecating humor, which is nice (like the "beer or nine" image).

My thoughts for the 2nd verse are:

You are so organised
You just can't abide
Letting things slide
You've got me sanitized
boxed-up and euthanized
You won't hear my cries
And it isn't wise
For me to feel this way
But you've shaped me
like a piece of clay

Also for the chorus:

Let it go
We gave it a try
Let's just forego
Another sad goodbye
What don't have love
What love is, baby I don't know
Time's come to let it go

Just some thoughts. I tried to sing along with your tune when I did this. I think most of this would fit with what you have. Disregard if you don't like any of it.

Hi Tony

Your vocals bring Lou Reed to my mind. And I love that connection. So with that in mind. I would suggest you take it a wee bit more up tempo. Doesn't feel like country at all to me. Rock out on the drums a bit more, add a lead guitar and a heavy bass line....that's what I think, for what it's worth. grin Good luck with it ! jm

Hi Tony. One or two things can make this sound much better IMO. I agree the vocals are a bit in front and over the top of the music. If you have them on a different track just maybe offset them back a bit. I think the music needs boosted rather than the vocals lowered. Maybe a bit of double tracking or harmonies would help. I also think the vocals need a touch more top in the eq to bring out a bit of crispness and a touch of fx would do no harm. Try adding a bit of plate. I also would like a bass guitar and a more dirty distorted rock sound from the guitar.
I get the impression that you are not a confident singer and are stifling and holding back on the performance. You need to put more effort and emotion into your voice. What I refer to as light and shade.
I also detect that you perhaps sing too close to the mic. Keep back a distance of around six inches and project into it. This close to the mic singin tends to make performances sound a bit bassy and distorted. Please do not take offence at these remarks they are intended as constructive criticism to try and improve your technique.

Re the ine sounds. I have heard songs that use similar sounds on the end of most of the lines and this adds to the charm of the piece. I have even heard these sounds accentuated to bring the listeners attention to this "flaw". It can work but you have to consciously sing them out to draw attention. Best of luck with this one it has potential if treated right.
