Singing with Hughes, Walking with Frost
Copyright 2008- Cole Donovan

I hear a song,
Carried on a wind of change.
A humming, strong, proud,
Crossing through America today.

I walk a path,
And follow that tune.
It takes me on a weeded path,
As I hope to see a clearing soon.

Like daybreak in Alabama,
Golden as Spring’s first green,
For all a country’s yesterdays,
All a country’s ever been,

Like the line whose route was freedom,
A man whose song is hope,
Take in nature’s beauty,
Take down that lynching rope.

It is here we find,
All that was ever lost,
Singing with Langston Hughes,
Walking with Robert Frost.

If I am not myself today, then who am I, and who is me?
