IF you only want to see BRILLIANT MOVIES, stay away from this one.
BUT, If you want to ESCAPE to The Bahamas on a Physical-Humor-Based Plotline, WITH the Occasional Crotch-Shot (Visual or Physical) for Laughs, Climb ABOARD with The Captain! (It's "Un-P.C. FUN"...JMO, of course.)
Shot in Key West & The Bahamas (Some Beautiful Scenery comes with the Package) & frequently aboard a Multi-Million-Buck Yacht, Old Cinematic-Salt Donald Sutherland (as Nigel Honeycutt) Captains this Bumpy-Love-Cruise into Dangerous-Waters. Central Issue: Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson) & her Treasure-Huntin' Beau (Matthiew McConaughey, as Benjamin Dinnegan) are newly-divorcing.
Beau's a bit-late to the Divorce Hearing because (in the FUNNIEST Underwater Scene I've EVER-viewed) he's just accidentally-blown up the ship Tess THOUGHT she'd be getting. Gangster-Rapper-Moneyman "Bigg Bunny" (Kevin Hart) thought it was HIS Ship, too, since Ben owes him BIGTIME for financing these treasure hunts. People now want to KILL Ben, JUST when he's found the Best Clue EVER "Where the treasure Really IS..."
That's the Setup for LOTS of Over, Under, & Across-the-Water Comedic Moments. There are the Now-Mandatory Good-Lookin' Babes & Hunks in Bikinis & Speedos, a Topless "Flash" you'll probably-miss, & a rather Fetching Portrayal of the Captain's Airheaded Daughter, Gem, by Alexis Dziena. (Her idea of the Ideal Weekend is helicoptering to Miami & spending absentee-Dad's loot. "Keep it under $50K if you please" is one of Sutherland's best lines..(Best I can Recollect it) & a sure-fire Parental Chuckle if ever there was one!) Mz Dienza handles awkward scenes and dialogue like a PRO, & I look forwards to seeing her in her Next Flick. (Gal Viewers don't seem so-inclined.)
Tess & Benjamin swim, wade, fly, walk, run & dive through 2 hours of "Troubles", with Bigg Bunny's thugs (& an Ex-Partner of Ben's) all hoppin' around stirrin' up the Plotline-Pot. MIGHT've been better to whack-off 15 minutes-worth of "Troubles" here. &..maybe I'm becoming an Old Wimp, but some of the Violence kinda marred The Humor here...(But if you're a Male-Basher, you'll probably love it...)
Enough-Said...I think Overall you'll get ENOUGH laughs out of "Fool's Gold" to enjoy Yet-ANOTHER-Treasure-Hunt on the Big Screen. Sun, Sand, Sin, Slaughter, and See-Worthy. Directed by Andy Tennant, NOT "Destined to be A Classic", but so what? This was an Enjoyable Escape, with Good Acting in spite of Predictable Plotlining.
"6-Outta-10", I mostly Enjoyed It; 'Best leave the Kiddies at Home, & get some Extra Popcorn on the way in.

This looked really bad just in the previews.. when you can't make THAT look good.. watch out.

Waal..Kate Hudson's FUN in this one, & the Opening Boat-Sinking was truly-Hilarious...as was her whackin' Hub' with the ol' guy's cane, as seen in the Trailer. Think it's Better'n' a Nite of TV...but Not LOTS-Better/hence the "6"...

Yeah, they did...but that felt Kinda Predictable..
Many Weeks after I saw this, I'm STILL Chucklin' about that Boat-Sinking Scene at the Very Start of this, & havin' a Good Laugh! There were some other Quite-Laughable Parts in this Flick, so it wasn't a "Complete Turkey"...& the Star-Power & Fine Acting was a "Plus"..in spite of the Not-Always-Perfect Scripting.
JMO again..heh!
