YEAH I know
It has nothing to do with music But this guy was great.
I seen him jump twice. It was amazing.
But then again I was always a little goofy on a motorcycle myself.
Still ride but a bit of a chicken now.

He was probably the most famous Elvis fan. So there is a music connection. Ben

I visited the site of his infamous Snake River Canyon jump when we did the Roadtrip stop in Idaho. It was very cool. The ramp is still there (it was a dirt mound). He was a true original and with safety regulations etc. it's unlikely we'll ever see his kind again. He was the ultimate showman in the modern era surpassing even Elvis in hype and delivering on it (Snake River Canyon aside...).

The end to another era, I just heard a radio interview with him yesterday here in Buffalo. He talked about the engineer that designed the rocket and the parachute that failed on his Snake River Jump. Even though the parachute failed he still thought that the engineer was a good guy...

Hey Brian remember that crazy bike he jumped with that day smile

A friend of mine wrote a song many years ago... I think it was called "Snake River"
I haven't heard it in over a decade but I remember this line:

"He's better than Elvis.... he broke his pelvis and all of his bones" smile

Thanks!

My friends band played a show back in 1996 in Louisville in which his son Robbie made a jump, and I got to meet Robbie. He said even back then that his dad was in bad shape. He was diabetic, and his stomach was eaten away from all the pain-killers he swallowed.
I remember that in his prime he was a BAD inluence on kids my age. We used to line up garbage cans and jump our bikes over em'! {I went flying head first over my handle bars on one ill-fated jump} R.I.P Evel!

I had the rev up toy too, Mike. I can remember watching him jump a few times, live on TV. It was sort of terrifying, for me as a kid. I realized that I might be watching a guy die live on TV. It was upsetting, but I couldn't tear my eyes away...

Yeah, we'll never probably see someone risking death live on TV again, but I believe that's a GOOD thing.

Nonetheless, RIP. We'll never see another guy like him again.

Wait - here I am in the house on the computer again on yet another Saturday Night.
With no money & ill.... maybe I'm wrong. maybe I should have stayed away from music & went and took the path of Evel... smile

Rich - That rev up bike was mad fun bro! It used to do all kinds of crazy stuff.
I may have had the Trailer set as well. ya know the one like Big Jim's smile

Richard, Robbie is still carrying on the family tradition proudly, so we may still see a crazy bastard get himself killed on live T.V.

I had the Big Jim Camper and I had Big Jim, and I had tons of GI Joes. When we were kids we'd spend half an hour setting up Big Jim's table with all the crap on it, set up the whole campsite, and then have two GI Joes get into a fight and send one flying into the table. Great fun.

We used to make up our own adventures and we had "good guys" and "bad guys." Each had their own fort, and of course they'd do battle. So it was pretty commonplace to have, for instance, General Custer go up against a Viking. Those weren't GI Joes, those guys were hard plastic and cost more. We had knights and soldiers and indians and cowboys and vikings and robots and whatever else we could get our hands on. Each one had their own back story and personality. We'd spend entire weekends in my grandparent's basement staging battles and such. Great fun.

Oops - sorry for the thread drift. Yeah, I know Robbie is still out there risking his life, but I don't want to watch it...

Bob - I didn't realize Bobby was still at it... I never see him on TV anymore.

Rich - I'm right with ya!

Those large thinner hard plastic figures were called "Johhny West" lol smile
Remember "Capatin Action"? with the changing superhero costumes...

Are you ready for this - I had one of the best collections of GI Joes in the entire East Coast.
I had every piece they ever made from 1964-1975 a little after that as well
then they started going to the small figures... To compete with Star Wars
When I put my mind to something I'm relentless. I found every single piece to every
set....

I sold all my GI Joes in 2000 to build my studio and buy my gear...
I had a beautiful salesman early issue GI Joe Sailor. I sold him for $5,000

They actually made a reproduction rev up Evel bike in the late 90's...

One day i'll post up some photos of my Joe;s the coolest thing ever along with Slot Car car Aurora T- Jets & AFX race track sets smile

Thanks!
