I'd like to thank everyone who prayed for my brother-in-law and his family over the past week. It was encouraging to know that the folks I'd grown close to these past two years were there for my family in spirit.

ADDENDUM-----I don't want to bump this to the top since I should have posted it on the general board to begin with. But, I did want to thank all those who have posted so far. I'd wanted to post to each person an individual response even before I left for Texas. Just wasn't able to do it since my children were in a special program at church the Saturday before I left.

I'm back home now and have internet access again. The services were outstanding. My sister is going back to work Monday. She finds work comforting and it was just recently that she'd switched from the night shift in the ER (where she's spent most of her career) to a day shift job in the same hospital working as their Nurse Educator. She works primarily with patients who have diabetes (and their families) but will soon be working with woundcare families as well. It was perfect timing for her to have switched. I can't imagine working in the ER after having lost your husband to traumatic injuries.

He was an organ donor but they were only able to harvest such organs as skin and possibly corneas. His organs had all suffered from lack of oxygen too.

I'm posting my continued appreciation and gratitude here rather than over on lyric board three since I realize now that I probably should have posted my original prayer request on this board.

I'm home now (have internet access so am now able to post again) and my sister plans to go back to work Monday. The funeral was enormously respectful and that took some of the edge off the bitter reality of his untimely death. No other member of law enforcement has been lost in the line of duty in that small town for as far back as anyone can remember. The entire community as well as the surrounding towns came to pay their respects. They're coping as well as can be expected. Surely it was a sobering reminder of everyone's mortality.

Thank you all again. I'm extremely grateful for your kind words and prayers.

Love,
Vanessa

Vanessa,

I think the prayers, and I am pleased to say that I said many on the behlaf of your sister's family and friends over the past week or so, are always answered. We may not know exactly how, but I do belive they are. Perhaps the answer here is that your sister and her family will find quicker and more comforting reslolution to their grief and loss.

And similarly, for those who do not pray because of personal views on spirituality, I think that the warm wishes carry the power of the human soul and also help. I wish your family peace and comfort in the days to come.

Alan

Dearest Vanessa,
Bless your sister and her family during this time of sorrow. I know you must be feeling the grief of your dear sister and it is not always easy to help someone you love through the healing process.

So, I will say a prayer that you remain a strong and healing spirit for your beloved sister and her family.

My heart goes out to all of you.

Heidi

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your thoughtful words. Yes, I appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness---prayerful or otherwise.

And yes, our prayers were answered even though Dale is resting in Jesus. It's not always apparent why God answers the way he does but I'm convinced that his ways are higher than ours and surely someone somewhere was influenced to make their life right with God because of this tragedy. One day we'll be able to ask about the whole story. Until then, I'll trust in Him.

I'm still thinking of your Helen. I hope that she continues to improve.

Hi Heidi,

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the aftershocks have been setting in. I wake up in the morning with thoughts of my sister and her three children. But, I cannot even imagine how they must be feeling. My Mother and sister are still there in Texas with Sandi and her children. But, after that it'll be tough. I've invited them over here for Christmas. She sounded like she would come since she wants a change of scenery for Christmas. I hope they come anyway.

Thank you Everett,

It's got to be hard on her for sure. A dear friend there in the community who was in charge of the phone committee who called all the ladies who cooked and brought food to the family told us that there are five young widows now in their church. My Mother-in-law still misses her husband after all these years though. They were married for like 38 years before he died. Course the children were all grown---but I sure wish my kids could have known him.

Thanks again for your thoughtful words.

Hey, you. I'm still saying prayers for you guys. Just know that this Christmas will be so tough on her so stay after her to come and be with you.

"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Hi Tricia,

Thank you for your continued prayers and for reminding me what I'll need to do. It's not my normal way to "keep after someone" but I agree that's what it will probably take to get her over here. This past weekend a friend from out of town was visiting. She has also lost her husband about a year ago.

Yes, he is. Never hurts to be reminded how near He is. And how willing He is to shoulder our burdens. Thanks.

Hi John,

Yes, Tricia has pretty good advice. Thanks for the blessings, and my God bless you and your family as well.
