Good imagination Jeff. Glad the name of the place isn't chicken butts. I haven't heard anything yet either. I guess we could do a songwriter in the round in the parking lot if it don't happen. I am assuming it is going to as I plan on making it this time.

As usual Jim Mason did an exceptional, excellent job of running the open mike at Fish Lips. It is always a treat for me to hear one of Jim's original songs from his cd,A Face in The Crowd.Stealing Horses in this case. The entertainers/musicians that I heard did a very good job as well. This little venue is growing little by little each time I go there. More performers and actual customers hanging around while we play. It's also pretty cool to be meating and hearing some new folks as well. The staff at Fish Lips does an excellent job of taking care of the food and drinks end of things too. Good music, food,& people. Three necessary qualities of life under one roof. It was also great to see Jules once again. Welcome home young man!

Glad to see that this is doing so well. It's really cool to have the option of having an open mic to break up the week and perform material in a commercial setting. Good practice and experience all the way around. Jim does a pretty good job of hosting this also and always mentions JPF by the way. Keep Strummin', Al www.bspass.com' www.aandrproductions.com

Mr. Mason was apparently ill so being the troopers that they are the JPF songwriters that showed up did a song circle at Jeff Blake's suggestion. I hope Jim is feeling better so we can get back on track next week.

Jim - it wasn't the same without you. Get well soon. And if this should happen again (heaven forbid) feel free to call me to bring my PA. If I'm in town, I'll be happy to host the entire three hours. 727-688-2602. This coming Tue I'll be in the Panhandle. So I'll be back in two weeks.
Tonight I stayed for a little over an hour and had a good time. In this situation, as in my recent song swap, the "audience members" are all holding guitars and are prone to chime in with chords, lead solos, vocal harmonies, etc. even on original songs they were hearing for the first time. The comraderie (sp?) was pretty much instantaneous once the first person started playing.

Hope all is well Jim. We carried on as well as we could unplugged, but you were missed. And I'd also be happy to drag my PA there and fill in some night if you need me to. See you soon,

I stopped by about 8:00pm and was told the open mike night was cancelled. I should have stayed a while to see if any other players came around. See you next week.

Tonight's edition (Jan 30) was as musically rich as it was diverse. The level of talent at these open mics is getting way up there. I'd better start practicing again!

It is amazing and gets better each week. With people like Colin & Bruce(coral head),Tom Stephens & Mike Worrall,Jim Mason,Jules,Jeff Blake,Barry Moses & Jay & the rest of the performers, the bar has come very high.Hope I can reach it even if on my tip toes. Thanks one and all for doing such a great job. Another round of thanks to the owners of Fish lips that put out the fantabulous food & service as well as give us all a place to perform. A great united effort by every one!

One of the things that is truly amazing is that there are no egos or dillusions at this open mike. These folks are as nice as they are talented so that makes it even more special. Budda Bill is a great player by himself and with the edition of his new singing partner it is a plus. Sorry if I forgot anyone. I am dealing with a memory with an expired warranty and a bad nights sleep.

Hey Folks A "BIG THANKS" to Jim Mason and FishLips for hosting the open mic night. We (Mike Worrall and myself) had a really good time. It's always a pleasure to be around such talented folks. I really hope even more folks (singer/songwriters and patrons) will start coming out on Tuesday nights. It's hard to find this many good folks in one place at the same time. It's a great feeling. SPREAD THE WORD..... You guys rock!!! Tom Stephens Stephens-Worrall www.myspace.com/stephensworrall

It's great to have a place to sing every week without worrying about the a capella thing being a turn-off.

Thanks guys. I didn't mean to sound as if I feel underappreciated. Some environments are better than others for singing a capella. Fish Lips has been great. In fact, last Friday I was out watching Exit 53 at Sunset Grille and they invited me to a tune with them. One of the patrons looked at me and said, "I saw you at Fish Lips last week. Please sing." That was very cool.
In a few months I'll be schlepping the keyboard I'm learning to play. Then, maybe everyone will wish I still performed a capella.

Thanks for the kind words Jerry. I'm bummed I missed Stephens-Worrall, you guys rock! I'll only be able to make it out for the last hour for the next few months as I've joined the Clearwater Community Chorus for their Spring Season and rehearsals are on Tues. Night. But I promise you'll see more of Ken and myself if you're hearty enough to stick it out until the end. Props to Jim Mason for making this whole thing possible.

Al Alvarez calls Jim Mason "Big Jim". I think it is due to what is in his heart not his size. Jim is a very well seasoned professional and a true gentleman. Bill:Your version of Fire & Rain blew me away.Excellent job! I think James Taylor would have been proud had he heard you perform his song. Meyer:I have not heard one negative comment about you from any one.Everything said has all been positive. Looking forward to your piano skills as well. This family just keeps growing!

This is quite the weekly event. A real variety of music from some very talented folks. Jim does an excellent job as the host. The owners of Fish Lips are also happy so that is a plus. It is a real joy to listen to the music and talk to these people. Most of them are Jpfer's too. See what you started? Thanks Bob!

It's two days to the open mic at Fish Lips Grill. If you have not experienced the fun this venue offers, this Tuesday would be a good time to come and have a good time.
I'm making plans to be there and look forward to seeing and hearing more of Tampa Bay's best independent artists.
