Hi Everyone,
With the upgrading of the new message boards here, I'd like to issue a New Year's challenge to everyone in SE MA.... let's all try to post one music related topic in this forum a week. It can be a notice about an upcoming gig, an article from a publication to share, or a request for advice about a local retailer....anything at all.
Maybe if we spark some more interest in our local board online, we can get some bigger local events going in the Spring.
Anyone up for the challenge with me???

Christine I happened across your board. I come from MA but have lived in Tampa for 20 years now. I am curious as to why your JPF message board is not being utilized. It seems that there are plenty of people out there because you have over 200 views on this message but no comments. I think area musicians may be missing out on some important networking and just plain music fun. These boards can do a lot to bring people together. If you get a chance take a look at the Tampa board it is a constant source of connection and support. I believe area open mikes help to link many of the members together in frienships and support. Wish you the best of luck, it is people like you that can make something happen. Papos Tampa FL

Thanks Papos,
I admit, the SE Mass Chapter is not especially active at the moment. I've been feeling a bit discouraged.
When I first moved here from NYC (where I ran the JPF chapter), a local woman talked me into co-coordinating a chapter here with her. She very quickly left the endeavor and left me in the lurch. Also, more musicians here, rather than the ones in the city, seem to be hobby-ists rather than professionals interested in networking and sharing insight. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
I've attempted to post consistently on this board with very few replies. We have also run several successful local events, but for about the last year or so, I've been too busy to coordinate much when none of the other members I''ve been in contact with seem willing to help or even return my emails simply asking for opinions and suggestions.
With the NYC chapter I found that the chapter and my personal goals fed each other well. For all the work I put out, I personally felt the benefits returned in many ways. (networking opportunities, music biz knowlege, showcase opportunities, new like minded friends, etc). Here, I often feel like my efforts are sucked into a big black hole and I don't really see much personal benefit from the effort. I'm one of the few around here who has actually released a record, toured, marketed their music... etc etc... Often I felt that the only one sharing knowlege or contacts seemed to be me.
So, until I get at least half a dozen local members besides myself posting on the board and organizing local events with me, I'm not sure what else I can do except be patient and hope that a few serious minded folks will step up and commit to helping build something great.
I'm just too busy to do it all by myself at this point.
Thanks, Christine

Christine I am sure there are many supportive local musicians out there, that will come out of the woodwork when the time is right for them. Members should remember that their level of expertise is not important in this community. What is important is the love of the music that you make.
Can someone out there tell us how they got started in their music or songwriting or a story of how one was written or why you wrote it.
Papos
