Hi Girls, Sounds like fun even though I haven't listened yet. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Only thing I'd contemplate changing: Blue Jay loves to backtalk Sitting on my sidewalk Grumbling about his day Red winged blackbird Clings to a tall stalk Ok ka ree is ALL HE'LL SAY OR Red winged blackbird If you stop to talk Ok ka ree is all he'll say. I suggest this because "pure rhymes" are good for children's things. . . and "day" and "says" doesn't work for me unless you're pronouncing "says" as "say-s". Cheers,. Terry

Hey, Ladies Fun lyric. Sure has an old saloon hall feel, prolly coz of the piano. Actually, alot of this sounds like one I recall from when I was a kid at Granny's house. May have only been a southern song....called "Ya'll Come"
Kinfolks are a-comin' They're comin' by the dozen Eatin' ever'thing from soup to hay And right after dinner They ain't lookin' any thinner And here's what you hear them say.
Ya'll come, ya'll come Ya'll come to see us when you can........
Enjoyed it! Ben

Howdy Tampa, When are you gonna get into the wide world of REAL technology and get yourself a computer? LOL You've been putting that off way too long...must be some sorta phobia. Actually, the bluejay has several different calls. It is one of the birds that doesn't always use the same one. This lyric was prompted by sitting on my front porch one morning and the cat was lazily washing herself by my feet. A bluejay landed on the front sidewalk and proceeded to tell her off in no uncertain terms. Made me laugh out loud to watch him. He was pacing back and forth talking all the time while keeping a close eye on Julia...who was ready to leap off the porch til she realized I was watching her too. She knew she'd never catch him anyway...and it was too hot to bother! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) It just made me think "I wish I understood what he was saying to her"...and the rest of this lyric sort of formed in my feeble brain. You are right about wanting to interest kids in nature. So many of them have always lived in the city and have absolutely no understanding or concern about what goes on in the natural world...or any comprehension of how important it is to THEM. That is the worst part...if they don't understand how dependent we are on nature..they don't care and they don't TAKE care of it. Then the whole fragile web of interdependence comes unraveled. Way back when I was in college (yeah THAT long ago) there was a popular saying "Don't fool with Mother Nature...it is not nice and VERY temporary"...meaning that nature will always have the final say. Thank you for dropping in and the kind words on this. Kaley was really fun to work with...and I am delighted with her upbeat melody on this!! Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Tall One, Thank you so much for taking time to check this one out! I actually like your suggested change for this line: Ok ka ree is all he'll say If Ms Kaley is in agreement, I think we outta plop that right in there. You are definitely right about little kids loving those perfect rhymes. This was a case where I never even noticed that change. I do, however, want to keep the "tall stalk" because red-winged black birds are almost invariably seen clinging to the side of a cattail stalk in the marsh. Hope you'll take time to listen to Kaley's adorable melody for this. I think kids will love it as much as I do!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Thanks so much again. Appreciate the read and excellent suggestions. Hugs, Bobbie

Okay, ladies, This un's about as cute as it gets, word-wise and music-wise. I think the youngsters would fall right in with this in no time. great job all around. I was going to run it by my two grandaughters (ages 7 & 9) to see what they thought about it; but they left for Hilton Head Island this morning to visit my other grandaughter and only grandson. So, I guess I'll do that when they get back next week. Nice job!!!! Alan ------------------ If I were but half as good as Dawg...I'd be twice as good as most. LOL I think I've heard that song you are talking about though I don't remember the music except for the ya'all come line so that's not much help. Appreciate ya stoppin' by...just try not ta eat too much, hear? LOL Hugs, Bobbie

Hi Bobbie and Kaley, This is WAY too cute!! Awesome job!! I love the lyric and the music...everything about it! I just watched a show on Animal Planet which said that hummingbirds are, on an hourly basis, on the verge of death because they expend so much energy and have to take in so much food. So, Bobbie...give those hummingbirds in your yard plenty of food!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Lisa

Howdy Ms. Bobbie and Ms. Kaley, Won't be able to listen till the rest of the house wakes up. But, you have that Blue Jay described to a T. They were my favorite birds as a kid. Their dress matches their spunky, sassy 'tude. And I could see one struttin' his stuff while reading the verse. The rest reads real songy too. Will be sure to enlist the boys to test this one fer ya. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) vanessa

Howdi Ben..... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Sorry I couldn't get back to replying yesterday......Thanks so much....for listening....and looking...and enjoying.. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Hmmm....on saloon....Probably because...I didn't go with the grand piano sounds..on the digital with this one.....I chose a different brighter sound for it.... I'm just learning my way around this new beast ( I say that affectionately)....y'all might hear quite a few different sounds from it till I figure out what works with what ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) I saw your comment below...and went in and listened...and then compared the songs note per note...line per line... The verses...have "some" similar notes... The Chorus is completely different/long with the bridge.... but both songs have the very same feel.... I'm tickled to pieces....it reminded you of a song like that....though... Cause.. I think it's catchy sounding....Hadn't heard it before..., but now...can't get it out of my head..... Thanks Ben... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) ...Glad you liked it... and glad you shared...(and sister too).. best to ya this morning from Central Pa.. kk

Nice collaboration here. Lively and upbeat tune. Maybe you can recruit a chorus of children for the chorus. It would be fun. Best to : ) jm

Hi Kaley and Bobbie I love this. One of my favorite things is to sit in my sunroom in the morning and watch the birds. We feed them every day. I'd love to see a verse on Mourning Doves with a soft coooo coooo. BTW we get lots of Hummingbirds at our feeder. They make a sound sort of like chitter chitter. Funny story about a Blue Jay; Working on my car doing brakes. Cat was laying in the yard. Blue Jay was sitting on the power line that ran over the driveway about ten feet above me. That Jay was squawking and chattering at me like mad. I yelled at it to go away. Had no effect. The cat was watching it close as well. Finally I picked up a stone and tossed it at it. Wouldn't ya know it, I hit it and knocked it off the wire. Well, that cat was on it's way before the bird hit the ground. I, of course, panicked, Oh! my God, the cat's got it. Well, I dove for the bird but the cat got there first. But I managed to grab the cat by the tail as he bolted for the bushes. Then I had to fight the cat for the bird. I got a little scratched up but I managed to get the bird away from the cat. After a few minutes of me holding the bird it woke up. Then it freaked and started screaming at me and flew away none the worse for wear. Not even a thank you. ------------------ www.soundclick.com/billrobinson www.dreamqueststudio.com Bill Live with a song in your heart

Hi Lisa, I love hummingbirds too. When I was in Colorado, we had tons of them where I lived...sometimes 4-5 different species all at the same time. They drove the cats crazy! They are feisty little critters...and used to dive bomb the cats til they'd run and hide under something! It was pretty funny. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) They do have to consume an ENORMOUS amount of food to keep up with the amount of energy they expend. It is amazing. So glad you enjoyed this!! Kaley does SUCH great music for these kids songs...makes me feel like a kid again myself! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Thanks for stopping in! Hugs, Bobbie

Hi Vanessa, Thanks SO much for being willing to kid test this!! I bet you can sing it to them because Kaley's great music makes the lyrics fit in there so well. Please let us know what Andre' and Seth think!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) When I had the horsepacking outfitting business...we had Stellar's Jays (aka Camp Robbers) in the Beartooth Mountains..and they were REALLY feisty. They'd come right up on your table and snatch stuff when you weren't watching! Then they'd squawk til you put MORE food out. I used to sprinkle cold cereal on the top of the table and then just sit and watch them work up their nerve to come grab it!! Thank you SO much for the kind thoughts on this one! We will be waiting for the kid report!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Hugs, Bobbie

Take a bow, ladies. That's awesome. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) I like to watch birds, too. And, the bunny that keeps coming up to the back deck. Hey girls, just popped in to say great lyrics, great tune. In the midst of all this lyrical angst and misery, something to brighten the day.
We have a stream close to the house. At different times of the year we have kingfishers, migrating storks, herons and woodpeckers hanging out. It salves my soul to see the flash of the kingfisher on a sweet morning.
Cheers, Len

Bird Words Tweet-Tweet, Bird Words, Magnifique!
This was delightful. I can picture a video w/the birds hopping around as it's sung and played. I hope in the finished product we will hear the tweet-tweet's and chirp-chirps. This sounds like a song that children would wind up memorizing as they sing along.
A very feel-good, fun, child's song that adults will love too!

I am so sorry folks...got tied up with other stuff and just now realized I have totally neglected responding to folks on this thread. Thank you ALL for taking time to listen and read this...and let Kaley and I know!!! Hi JM...Thanks SO much! I like your idea for having a kids chorus doing the tweets and chirps! That works! Sure appreciate the look and listen to this! Howdy Bill...if this ends up being short..we can always add more verses. Will have to see. Kids don't have very long attention spans. So sorry about the lack of appreciation from the Blue Jay. They sure aren't models of gratitude! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Glad it had a happy ending. Hi Diane...Thanks so much for the read and kind remarks! Does the soul good. Glad you agree with me that Ms Kaley's music is terrific as always!! And thanks for the complement on the lyrics. As I was writing this, I was hoping she might be interested so I was delighted when she agreed to do the music. Hi Ms Emily...coming from someone with your years of teaching music to young children, your comments on this are truly appreciated!! I know how incredibly busy you are...so thank you so much for taking time to check this out for us! Howdy Ms Tricia...you are probably right about that carrot trick. LOL Animals can be so much fun to just watch. Dunno if you saw the pictures Brian posted on one of his early blogs of the squirrel trying to get into his bird feeder. They are absolutely hysterical! Thanks for taking time to check this out and share your thoughts on it! Much appreciated. Hi Len...what a kind thing to say. Both Kaley and I do try to keep our material on the inspirational or upbeat side as much as possible. There is way too much negative stuff all around us and as songwriters we have the option to bring folks up or down. I much prefer to bring them up if I can. Thanks so much. After reading your post about the bridge..I spent several hours checking out photos of your lovely country. I admit I don't know anywhere near as much as I ought to about a nation that has been the center of so much of the history of civilization. Howdy Ms Lynn... Love the magnifique! So I'll repeat It sounds sweet What a treat You are right..this could be a fun video for places like nature centers to have available. Thanks so much to ALL of you! Hugs, Bobbie

This is...as cute as...Kaley's dots! Ben, "Y'all Come" was also Minnie Pearl's theme song on the Opry. Bobbie, you might want to listen to the old fiddle tune "Listen to the Mockingbird" it was used as a 3 Stooges theme song and a great fiddler like Chubby Wise can make the bird calls sound very real. Terrific work, you birds. Mike ------------------ You have to practice improvisation. -Art Tatum Mike Dunbar Music
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Howdy Mike, You know, when Ben mentioned that song...I knew I was familiar with it from somewhere and it HAD to be Ms Minnie's rendition stickin in my head! What a great lady she was. She was born and raised right here in Centerville, TN...home of Grinder's (Greiner's) Switch!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Thank you for that illumination!!! We do know a few great fiddlers don't we? I'd love to get some awesome fiddle work on this little tune if Kaley is interested! That'd be a fun challenge for a good fiddler wouldn't it...to match the calls of some of these birdies! Oh, the thought of it does my tweeters a world of good!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) Thanks Mike! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Hugs, Bobbie

Kaley and Bobbie,
This sounds like fun! I've been thinking for years I should record a mockingbird singing a string of 20+ other birds' songs, sort out and identify those musical motifs, then string some of them together to create a melody that would be a collab between man and bird. Once I had a good melody written, I'd need to write words that would match the species.
Just haven't gotten to that yet.
I'll go take a listen to what you've done here. Good work! Keep writing.
Skip
P.S. Kaley you are correct about that "tithe for booze" text in connection with what Israel might buy for consumption at the yearly festivals at the temple in Jerusalem. I found it first when I was still in college, working the late night shift in the dormitory to help pay my tuition. One of my duties was changing the bulletin board in the lobby. I could put anything I wanted that would fit. So I put "Tithe for Booze? Deuteronomy 14:26" up one night. That raised the dean's eyebrows the next morning, since the campus was one sponsored by a religious organization that had more in common with Jeremiah 35 and Daniel 1 than this particular passage--we both pay tithe, and discourage the use of alcohol among our members.
In the sanctuary, the ancient Israelites also had drink offerings of strong drink that were of a certain prescribed volume for each kind of sacrifice. They would pour it on the sacrifice to be offered--probably to make it burn. Just the prescribed evening and morning sacrifices and festival sacrifices on behalf of the nation required the equivalent of seven 50 gallon drums of high proof "sacrifice starter" each year. (Above 50% by volume flames--which is a way the frontiersmen in America checked for whiskey quality. They'd mix it with gunpowder and see if it would light. If it would, it was "strong drink". If not, it was considered inferior.) Which is likely why God forbade the priests to imbibe (Leviticus 10:8) and later the kings (Proverbs 31:4,5).
Whether you are operating a national church service, or running the country from day to day, (or shepherding oil tankers through the waters of Alaska) you need a "designated driver" at the wheel. That role God assigned to the priests and kings. Which Revelation 1:6 and Revelation 3:21 seems to indicate we are--and are becoming.
I must admit, I have drunk a bit in the past few years myself. Five or six teaspoon fulls, in fact. It came in the form of communion offered at the 60+ churches of various denominations I visited during my pastorate in Idaho. I partook, not knowing in advance whether the sip that allowed me to do so would be fermented wine, or sweet wine. Sometimes it was one, and sometimes the other. I probably get more alcohol in the ocassional teaspoon full of cough surip. Your comments on moderation are certainly in order for those who choose to drink, and fall into line with Paul's instructions concerning New Testament church leaders in his writings to Timothy.
This is an area where personal choice and careful discretion are in order. The reason we have fresh bottled grape juice from Welches is because a Christian deacon noticed that the alcoholics in his congregation went on benders following the serving of communion at church. At that point, fermentation was the primary means of preservation in the area where he lived. He pioneered the means of canning fruit juice fresh to alleviate that problem at communion time for those who were suseptible. In the process, he launched the canning of unfermented fruit juices we all have an option to enjoy as an alternative today.
I think among the 200 plus wineries in Nampa Valley--just down the hill from where I posted the bit about tithe/booze--there should be one that bottles and offers nothing except non-alcoholic wines. Guess I need several lifetimes just to keep up and follow through on my own ideas. As a group, Seventh-day Adventists have agreed among ourselves to discourage all use of alcohol in our own ranks. Like the group in Jeremiah 35 in Jeremiah's day, we have greatly benefitted as a result. Sometimes the enthusiasm for a benefit recieved can get the best of me. I do recognize others rights to make other decisions in such matters.
P.S.P.S. I have always admired your skill on the piano as your primary composing instrument. Good music for this. Wish I could hear the singer doing the words at the same time. Maybe when you're ready to demo or record?

Kaley and Bobbie,I really thought this was a different take on rockin robin to begin with, but now I understand the message behind the feathers and yes the chirping has so much to it, almost as or more sociable than porpoises with a purpose! Our cat likes birds in a different way, but when you live in an area saturatred with venemous snakes, the birds can truly be your friend in a messenger to safety from a nasty bite. This is really nice work, good luck. Ken A. Randall

HI GALLS,
lOVELY LYRICS HERE, IF YOU TWO COULD FIND A COMPOSER WHO COULD DO JUSTICE TO THIS YOU WOULD HAVE A HIT.
UNFORTUNATELY THE MUSIC AS IT IS, IS VERY TRADITIONAL SOUNDING, AND NO ONE IS BUYING THAT, EXCEPT A FEW DIE HARDS.

Dear Peter... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Thanks so much for stopping by..... Glad this one caught your eye and liked enough to comment... I love B.G.'s lyrics too...!!!!. Sorry you don't care for the traditional Children's Country...I gave this one... Not sure what to say other than thank you for your honest comment.... It's getting downloaded nicely...by many folks...so we're glad they don't share your opinion. Being you've mentioned more than once not caring for traditional music.. and thinking much of what we write is old fashioned and not to your liking, ..I can see why you wouldn't like this melody. I think this has an easy to remember melody...good for kids... Could easily be done up in more of a contemporary fashion......or more "traditional" with the additional instruments....like Mike Dunbar is suggesting above..... Howdy Skip, I LOVE mockingbirds. I could listen to them all day. We have them here in TN and I see and hear them from my porch regularly. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Sometimes they've fooled me into thinking it is some other bird calling...but then eventually I catch on. Amazing that one creature was given that incredibly instinct for mimicry! Oh..and there are wineries that bottle non-alcoholic wines. I have some sitting in my pantry right now. I'll have to go check the label to see what vintner it is from. Hugs...I am assuming preachers need hugs too! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Bobbie

Hi Ken, We certainly appreciate those kind words on our little song here. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Having lived in the mountains of CO for many years, I learned to pay attention to the birds...particularly the magpies who are a great early warning system!! They are real "complainers" so if anything is out of order in their territory, they will be very vocal about it! LOL Thank you for taking time to check this one out! Hugs, Bobbie

Hi Peter, Appreciate you taking the time to check this one out and for the kind words on the lyrics here. However, since this is intended to be a children's song, we really are not looking for a "hit" record per se. Sales of children's music are at an all time high and music for children is not simply a watered down version of what an adult might enjoy. I am delighted with Kaley's music here and the song is getting some very positive attention within the industry so I am not too concerned with a few folks not particularly agreeing with our taste! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) When it gets demoed we will be adding instrumentation so it will sound different than what you see here. Not sure whose musical traditions you are talking about but this is not intended to be country music...and it sure doesn't sound traditional to me...unless you just don't like piano melodies. Also not quite sure what you are basing your statement "no one is buying" on but tain't so around these parts. Tell that to Kurt Heinecke, CEO of BigIdea...the force behind the Veggie Tales phenomenon, who is coming to Pineyfest in a couple of weeks! I am sure he would laugh all the way to the bank with his millions! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) We are all entitled to our own perceptions of reality...and I DO appreciate you sharing yours with us. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Hugs, Bobbie

Hi Kaley, and Hi Bobbie,
I appreciate your comments on my not liking the music for the song, It gave me an opportunity to visit your site and the first song hit me between the eyes. "Only September Knows", What a lovely opening musical phrase, yes it kept me interested all the way wanting to hear it again. you should find the write lyrics and singer to this , and I hope you have already done that. it's one of the strongest melody's I have heard on this board for some time,
Looking down the list I was very sadened to realise that Corky had died, I have not been around this board for a few years. My sincere Condolances to you Bobby, Corky was a gentleman who stood up for me many a time, when others thought I was too critical of certain lyrics , and too opinionated on certain threads.
Knowing the man by his writing and honest opinions, I know he would and will be sadly missed.
Ben
Best Wishes To You Both
