Went with music buddy Terry Pinnegar and his lovely wife Analee to a new Open Mic evening at a nearby kinda classy restaurant. About half way through the evening a big bunch of rowdy adults proceeded to plop themselves at a table right in front of the performers. This group of about 8 people were totally obnoxious, talking loudly, laughing and carrying on. The open mic activities were taking place on the outdoor pavilion...so these folks could have taken their act inside where they wouldn't have bothered anyone..but noooo...despite several attempts to ask them to be quieter, they persisted. Of course, on the way home..I did what any self-respecting songwriter would do. I wrote a song about them. This is, therefore, probably merely therapeutic...but I suspect that it could also be a valuable tool for anyone who might need it in their repertoire some performance night when it is called for! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) Anyway..at least I feel better now. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Hugs, Bobbie Rude People © 2006 Lyrics by Bobbie Gallup ASCAP Last night I practiced my evil death wish stare (thanks Sandy! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) ) On that loud mouthed floozy with the bleached blonde hair She thought she was funny She thought she was cute I thought the manager outta give her the boot Got no manners So uncouth That’s right lady, I’m talkin’ ‘bout you CHORUS: Rude people… Don’t have a clue Stupidest thing ya’all can do Is “tick” off somebody who's gonna write about you Put you right where you belong In a song… About… Rude people (audience participation) Took the kids to visit Kennedy Space Center We were standin’ in line, waitin’ to enter Couple from the back Pushed their way past When their friends tried the same I went on the attack Got no manners So uncouth That’s right folks, I’m talkin’ ‘bout you CHORUS: Rude people… Don’t have a clue Stupidest thing ya’all can do Is “tick” off somebody who's gonna write about you Put you right where you belong In a song… About… Rude people (audience participation) Yes, I'll go to dinner but let me make this clear You better keep that cell phone away from your ear If someone else is so important That their call can't wait You better find yourself a brand new date That shows no manners None at all To make me listen to your half of a call CHORUS: Rude people… Don’t have a clue Stupidest thing ya’all can do Is “tick” off somebody who's gonna write about you Put you right where you belong In a song… About… Rude people (audience participation) BRIDGE: Songs can be weapons Songs can be tools Songs can reveal The truth about you… You’re such…. Howdy Pete! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Thanks for understanding!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) I think you are right...the melody from Randy Newman's song Short People might just work for this 'un too. Not sure I actually remember much of anything except the line...Short people...the rest of it is lost in the purple haze of age. YIKES!! I am over my temper tantrum...but durn, it felt good to write this one!! LOL I'd say you could give me a hand with this one, but without any, I guess I'll just have to accept the kind words on it! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Thanks for dropping by an reading my lil rant. YASSSSAAAAAHOOOOOWEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! I just LOVE this! You know...... as much as I don't care for "songwriter" or "singer" songs...... this would go over like gangbusters at the Bluebird or anywhere else where they are pretty durn adamant about the audience staying quiet. (brings to mind what the emcee of the open mic I attended a few times in Tacoma would say at the start of the evening. "talkers will be cheerfully SHOT!" In your second verse... Kennedy Space Center is quite the mouthful.... Basically your point there is anywhere that you have to stand in line for a while... ticket line... for a "must see" concert or movie Think you could replace KSC with a number of "more singable" events or places. ------------------ Harriet http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/harrietamesmusic.htm

Howdy Tampa, You are SO right. The verses to this could go on and on and on and.... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) I think I will add one about the cell phone users...from recent experience. Earlier this week, I participated in a funding workshop sponsored by our congressman. After lunch one day (which he provided..an indoor sit down formal affair) he got up and was addressing the group...when someone's cell phone actually went off as he was talking. The person then proceeded to sit there and talk on the phone WHILE the congressman was speaking!! When I teach workshops...the first order of business is to tell people where the restrooms are located..THEN to let them know that cell phones are to be either turned off or on vibrate for the duration!! If someone's phone rings, I say that their wife better be 9 months pregnant and due to deliver any minute...or they better be the obstetrician!! I also hate it when you are out dining with someone and they answer the phone at the table and proceed to carry on a lengthy conversation with someone else. The message is that the other person is more important than you are. I have actually gotten up and walked out. Cell phone users are some of the worst. Nuther verse coming! Thanks for the great suggestions. Another thing that bugs me is dogs. You KNOW I LOVE animals...but when dog owners let their dogs bark incessantly it drives me NUTS. I have dear friends who raise miniature schnauzers..who are well known for barking at anything...and nothing. Those dogs, cute as they are, just plain make too much noise, especially living in the city where they disturb everyone for blocks!! Hugs, Bobbie

Hey, Bobbie Ain't it great when you can create a goodie and vent simultaneously!!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) My only crit is that pesky "ain't got a clue" I've seen it so often (usually in lyrics that aren't too swooft!) that it's lost it's kick, for me... Ben

Howdy Mz Harriet,
So delightful to have you drop in with yer inimitable yassahoooweee!! LOL You are definitely right on both counts. I also hate "songwriter" songs...but here in Nashville...folks would LOVE something like this!!
When I wrote this I didn't have the word Kennedy in that line...so I can definitely live without it. Had considered Florida but that also has 3 syllables. Might just drop it altogether. It does need to end on the word "center" however since that is a rhyming word with "enter".
Love your idea for the tag..LOL To borrow from your WA friend...And you can just kiss my ASCAP!! LOL
Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Rittman... Yeah...being a non-cell phone person..I find that a lot of cell users are quite rude IMO. It's almost like a power toy...the message of which is.."See how important I am? Someone wants to talk to me and not you!" ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Glad you feel my pain!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Thanks for the drive by! Good Write, Bobbie,
On the same note as cell phones are people who have TWO lines on a private phone and will ALWAYS take the other call-- another way to make the first one feel that someone else is more important. (business is different)
I am not a cell phone user either.
this would hit home for SO many people annie ??? Rude people… Are missing a few-- Manners and the stupidest thing they can do

Hi Bobbie,
As I read this I thought about parents who think everyone wants to mingle with their kids in restaurants, but Tampa beat me to it.
You're right. They don't have a clue!!!

Hi, Bobbie! Oh boy, do I relate to this one ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Even though I am a cell phone user, I am careful to turn that thing off most of the time! Being a parent, I feel it gives me some security in being able to talk keep in touch with my son....And, I certainly dont talk on the cell phone during a meal at a restaurant, or while vistiing with a friend... Places I do NOT want to hear cell phone conversations: Doctor's offices grocery stores theaters AIRPLANES!! Can you beleive that someone would want to let people talk on cell phones on an airplane?! Talk about insane! Great lyric, Bobbie....go get 'em! Love ya, Emily emilysanders.net

I'm with you on this one Bobbie- Just last weekend, I was in Nashville, and Ken Lush and I were driving past the Bluebird. I was never inside, so jokingly I asked Ken if I could go in to use the bathroom, and look around. Ken said, that you just can't walk in there, and I'd be tossed right out. He also commented that if anyone made any noise while someone was performing, they'd be right out the door too. Yeh, rude people are a part of life- we just have to grin and bear it- and put our foot down once in a while, and maybe they'll learn. Seinfeld had a show about that; focussing on hecklers. Cell phones, should not be allowed in public places; indoors that is.. particularly restaurants, and theaters. Regarding the restaurant you were at; I'm curious why nobody said something to the loud people? Or at least, spoke to the management. Hey Bobbie!! This is Greeeeeeeeeeat! Haven't we all been there ... Not sure how long I would have lasted before getting rude to the rude people .. I have little tolarance for the ignorance of rude people ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/eek.gif) Especially when I go out to listen to music... As a matter of fact .. went to hear friends play last night at a fairly small cafe ... musicians up on stage perfoming when 3 of her friends came in & sat at the table closest to the perfomers and immediately broke into conversation ... How freakin' rude!! How inconsiderate !!! How distracting to her friends who were only a few feet away trying to perfom .. Yea .. they got the evil stare from me!!! I said to someone .. I would rather my friends stay home than come out and behave like THAT!!! Wheww... now I feel better too! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) I agree ... a cell phone verse will finish this up!!! Good mornin' Annie, Glad to see you made it over here to Forum 3 where the "nice" folks hang out! You suffered long enough there on Forum 1. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/eek.gif) Thanks so much for dropping by on this one. I am with you on the folks who always pick up their other line. I mean...is ANYONE so important that they can't finish the call they are on and call the other person back? That really IS rude!! Sure appreciate the good suggestion too. Am still pondering on that line. Had a good idea for it but managed to forget it before I got back to work on it. LOL Age...it's not all it's cracked up to be!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Hugs, Bobbie

Yeah...Diane, Tampa was right. People will never think they are the ones being talked about!! As the poet Robbie Burns said.."oh the gift the Giftie gie us..tae see oursels as ithers see us." (not a direct quote but you get the idea...we DON'T see ourselves as others do!)
These folks DID know that they were disturbing others, however...they just didn't care. THAT is rude!!
Thanks for the read and kind remarks! Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Ben,
Yep...prolly could be due to brews...but in the case of the folks the other evening..they were in that condition when they arrived so not sure if they had already been imbibing or were just plain RUDE. Either way, they were totally obnoxious.

Howdy oh Tall One! Thanks for dropping by with your good suggestions!! Always appreciated! I actually had the phrase WHO CAN in that line and then switched it to WHO'S GONNA because it was a done deal at least in this lyric! Can always switch back if need be. I think using the word PROTEST, however, would make this sound a bit too 60-ish. This really is just a song about rude people..so will prolly leave that line the way it is. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Yeah..this is protesting rudeness, but hey...I think/hope folks'll get the point without having to say that word. Howdy Mz Em, I have no objection to cell phones in principle...it is just how some folks choose to use them that seems to underscore their overall lack of manners. Someday, when I live somewhere where I can actually get reception...I will probably break down and get one myself. I have one friend who constantly has a phone in her ear...and then complains because she can't get any of her work done!! Well, DUH!!! Same person calls me and wants to talk for an hour every day. I have had to tell her that I just can't do that every day. I don't have that kind of time in my life to just chat. I have another friend who calls me almost every time he gets in his car and wants to "talk". Well, I am not in my car, I am usually working, trying to get ready for work, or in a meetingl, or sleeping. Just because it is convenient for the caller doesn't mean it is for the person being called. To be honest, I don't always WANT to be accessible. My time is prcious to me and I refuse to be the slave to a telephone...cell or otherwise. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! Thanks for dialing in on this one!! Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Shayne, I think a lot of folks could relate to this one, unfortunately!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/eek.gif) I will certainly consider the Disney movie thing..although the very fact that it IS a Disney flick would make it lose a bit of punch IMO. How many of those would start at 9? I dunno. Most kids ought to be in bed by then I would think. LOL Thanks so much! Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Cal,
Ken was right about the Bird. It is the one place I know of where they are very strict about the rule of not talking during a performance...a rule that is appreciated by both the audience AND the performers. For one thing the place is so tiny that the slightest noise from the audience does truly affect everyone else's enjoyment.
As for the restaurant the other night...several people DID speak to the offensive table...but were ignored. We left earlier than we had intended. I just wasn't going to put up with it any longer. I don't think anyone asked the management to deal with them, however. If I had seen a waiter I would have done so, but the wait staff didn't come out there much after the music started.
Guess as I have gotten older, I find I am becoming less and less tolerant of rude and abusive people. The foot tends to come down more often these days. I see no reason to be an enabler of their poor behavior.
Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Mz Joanne! Awww...thanks so much! It's prolly not great...but at least it "feels" good to get it off my chest!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) I think it is the epitome of rudeness to be obnoxious when someone is performing music live. It just galls me that people would even consider doing that. Here in the South..they place such an emphasis on manners and yet some of these folks can be "THE WORST" when it comes to living up to the expected standards. I added a cell phone verse. Probably doesn't go far enough...but I didn't want to castigate all cell users with this particular brush. I have another option I am working on in case this one doesn't get the point across, however!! Thanks for the support!! All my performing friends are more than welcome to keep this one handy in case they ever need it some night!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Hugs, Bobbie

Hi, Bobbie, Just read the lyric again...love it... I am reminded of the creative way that the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles deals with the cell phone issue: When the place is full...the lights go down...and it gets really quiet...people expect that the show is about to begin...BUT...the sound they hear...at a VERY loud volume, is the sound of the most obnoxious cell phone ring tone - one we've all heard and hate!!! Then, a voice comes over the sound system saying, "This is the one sound we do NOT want to hear at Disney Hall...Please turn off all cell phones and pagers." I also have much less tolerance for rude people these days..which I am sure can be attributed to my age ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Cheers! Emily

Howdy Tricia, Thanks so much!! Glad you liked that bridge. I was hoping it was a decent summation of the intention here. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) I like the line you are suggesting also. Not sure there is enough difference there to hang an entire song on...but someone might be able to come up with enough new material for it! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Glad this got ya thinkin!! Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Mz Em,
That is a great solution. I wish more places would do that. It's awful to be sitting in a concert or a movie in the middle of a tense scene and, "Yankee Doodle (or worse)" starts blaring as someone's phone goes off. Never fails.
I figure I have been obliging and tolerant for way too many years. Time to stand up for the rights of us the silent majority who hate stuff like that. The rude folks don't care as long as we don't embarrass them by making a fuss. Well, I say it is time to make that fuss!
Thanks for dropping back by. Looks like this one may actually end up with music!! We shall see.
Hugs, Bobbie

Howdy Ben, I was sort of assuming that was what you intended. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) I am still considering it but I hate giving any drinkers the option of blaming their rudeness on the alcohol! Appreciate the idea!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) Hugs, Bobbie

Hi Bobby, Still having a hard time with muddlin with some ones elses work. I this is a very good one. Very good but I did think of the song "Short people got nobody" as I was reading too. The suggestion about people "who can" write about you fit's better. If my input helps. I also have a re-write posted of "things are getting better" if you guy's would like to take a peek. I will probably change the title if the song makes sence now. The funny thing is that I wrote that song about twenty years ago and no one ever said they didn't understand what I was talking about and it was the song they asked for the most.. but then again they usualy where falling down drunk at the time. Let me know what ya think.
Mario

Bobbie: *Very* nice. I see you have made most of the changes people suggested, so I don't have much to nitpick. I agree about the Kennedy thing, though--that is a mouthful if you're trying to play guitar at the same time. Could you just say "that big Space Center" (or "that big ol' Space Center") instead? People should know what you're talking about. Theme is reminiscent of Randy Newman's "Short People Got No Reason to Live," but the music I catch a whiff of is different. I think it'd be fine. And it *could* end up a hit--you're scratching a lot of people's frustrations here. Remember Carole King's "You're So Vain"? You've got a shot. A venue like the Bluebird (probably not the Bluebird itself, but somebody with aspirations to Bluebirdhood) might be interested in this as an opening number, just to get the audience off on the right foot. I have thus far managed to refuse to own a cell phone. Not only am I the only member of my family without one, I think I may be the only city manager without one. And I will keep it that way as long as I can. I realize I will eventually be forced to use one, but when that happens, I'll work on trying to forget it and leave it places. (Our sewer plant operator has the ideal solution--he keeps dropping his cell phone in the digester, so while he has one, it doesn't mean it owkrs.) Howdy Mario,
'Round here we don't figure it's muddlin'...we post here so folks can help us see stuff we mighta missed in our own lyrics and help us identify potential solutions. Back when I managed a bunch of folks, I used to tell them.."Don't just tell me a problem...bring me some solutions." That usually did bring a lot of good ideas to the surface, and put a stop right quick to folks who just enjoy the act of complaining about anything and everything! A lotta times it's easy to see when something isn't "quite" working...but it takes some real thought to find a fix for the problem. Sometimes all I need is for someone to point out the issue, however...but I sure do appreciate it when folks will take the time (means they care enough) to help identify something that might work better!! So..at least as far as my stuff...you are NOT going to make me feel bad if you make suggestions. I may not always agree with the ideas offered...but they will definitely be appreciated!!
As for this one reminding people of the song SHORT PEOPLE..I'd be surprised if it didn't. I think that can, however, be rectified with the music. Hope so anyway.
I had that line reading WHO COULD first...but changed it because the song was already written. Might change it back if the composer wants it that way. I am an easy woman...what can I say? LOL
Thanks again... Hugs, Bobbie
