G'Mornin' NashvilLady & "KUDOS"!

Fine Upstanding Lyric, & I'm not about to Debate Ya..(Not with GWB's Approval Rating currently at an all-time Low).

I totally LOVE that Dixie Chix..and totally Approve of Their Right to Free Speech AND Dissent.

I'm also Totally Behind our Armed Forces doin' their Often-Thankless Jobs.

So..while I would debate ya on Whether Deomcrats Coulda Done Things Any Better, I will Congratulate Ya on This'n'..& wish ya The Best of Luck wit it.

Good mornin' Tall One!

Methinks all that salt air hath clouded your vision a bit! [Linked Image] 'Cause that mote in thine eye seems to be what you are accusing others of. As I recall..you recently posited that when someone presents as "fact" that which is merely an opinion, then harmony cannot exist...or some variant of that. [Linked Image] You have your "opinions" on Ann Coulter...but puleeeze, do not place that woman's thoughts and writings on a pedestal as being "fact". And yes..I think Dr. Laura is probably much in the same category. Now don't go away all mad. I warned ya about those panties!! [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

Hugs,
Bobbie

Howdy Joanne,

Thank you so much, sweet lady with the awesome voice...for the kind defense of my integrity. I'm not too worried cause I have developed a rather thick skin and long ago decided that to survive in this business, I couldn't myself too seriously. Heck, I suspect that she who laughs at herself gets the last laugh! Well, or something like that! LOL [Linked Image] But thanks anyway.

Hugs,
Bobbie

Howdy John,

Yeah...living here in Nashville..some of THE BEST music is what I hear at the songwriter nites and open mics and I know it'll never make it to radio. There is just such a huge gap between making great music and getting airplay. Let's watch and see what impact eventually happens as a resultof the internet. Clearly the honchos are very worried because it is already changing how they do business. I agree with you that Nashville is particular...fickle even. They like their artists to be "nice" and mannerly. Sort of a vestige of the Southern manners thang. You are very right in how folks will abuse statistics to "prove" their side of the argument. Happens all the time. I think someone said it in a song as I recall..."a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest"...one of those old "hymns" by S&G! [Linked Image] That's the way it goes.

Hugs,
Bobbie

Good mornin' Joe!

LOL Bein' as how I am one of those DY's also (damnyankee)...I am guessin' we have a couple'a things in common. Thank goodness fer duct tape! It comes in mighty handy fer lots 'a things!

Also agree with you on the timeless thing...IF that is your hope. Sometimes, however, a song is not meant to be "timeless" but rather to take a position on current events...with merely a few extrapolations to their relevance over time.

Yeah...I coulda put the whole name Dixie Chicks in here...still could if this ever got to the point where somebody wanted to do the music for it. I COULD sing it and it would certainly get attention. Not GOOD attention to be sure...but ya'all couldn't ignore it. You'd be laffin' too hard!! [Linked Image] [Linked Image] As for those enhancers you are talkin' about...them ain't enhanced...they're the real thang!! [Linked Image] [Linked Image] Oh...I see you are talking about the multi-syllabic stuff. I do that a lot, don't I? LOL Sorta makes it tough for some of those ol' redneckers to relate I guess. [Linked Image] And yeah...poor ol' Nero got hauled in here cause his name worked so great with hero. LOL Funny how that happens. I have been told that if you can't serve as a good model...at least you can serve as a warning to others. Guess Nero falls into the latter category.

I think your point about the age/wisdom issue is exactly what I was trying to say. I'll hafta go back and see just how I DID say it. LOL Heck, it has been a couple'a days since I wrote this and you 'spect me to remember my lyrics!! DUH!! I am old AND blonde!! I just write 'em...I don't remember 'em!

I suspect only YOU are up to writing that termite farts song...will watch for the sequel.

Yeah...the Cheney thing wouldn't have been a big deal if he had not been the VP...and if he hadn't thought he could keep a lid on it. When you are in a high level public office like that..you are definitely held to a higher standard. You can't even have bad breath without it becoming front page news for dissection.

Your point on the New Orleans issue is precisely mine. I am also a city planner...at least I work in the city planning office ad at the moment am responsible for coordinating development of the city's historic preservation plan..so this is a scenario near and dear to my heart. This is a problem with no easy answer...but dang...don't just repeat the same mistake all over again!! The wisdom issue was why it got stuck in this lyric...cause I don't think what we are doing there is smart at all...and I AM entitled to my opinion on that! [Linked Image]

Thanks muchly, Joe!
Hugs,
Bobbie

NOW you show up Bobber!! LOL Thanks! [Linked Image] [Linked Image] And yeah..I remember with great fondness all those evenings in the music room picking on the Dawg for his views on politics...but we ALL had a great time. Sure miss those evenings. [Linked Image] I guess the thing is...we actually know most of these folks here in real life because of Pineyfest...and it sure makes it a whole lot easier to accept that their political views may be different than ours on some issues...but hey...they are still GREAT people and I wouldn't trade one of them for the world!

Bet this next presidential race will be a humdinger...no matter WHO ends up running! It's prolly gonna get dirty. Hey didja know that W has a sex tape? (no...really???) [Linked Image] But he didn't inhale! LOL

Hugs,
Bobbie

Howdy Big,

Well...
I CAN be nice and I CAN be sweet. [Linked Image]
Most often I do try at least

How's that? I never did have any hard feelings but I could see that you were ready to have a hissy fit over my lyric thinking I had somehow ripped you off. After my first cursory read of the beginning of your lyric I never went back although I noted that you had erased it. Sure, there are folks who lurk the boards looking for good ideas to steal but it isn't going to be the ones who actually POST here that you need to be concerned about. And for the most part..people will not rip off your words...merely your ideas. Much harder to prove in court methinks. A I said...I never have to take someone else's ideas. I have more'n plenty of my own. I happen to think the Chicks idea is quite clever and just MIGHT appeal to someone. But hey..I've been wrong before.

BUT..that said...you really are not going to win friends around here by trying to rip a new orifice on the folks who hang out here. Try a little kindness, man! As you noticed from the different responses your lyric got from mine...a lot of that is in your approach. These folks know me. They don't know you. When you come in and immediately post something designed to aggravate a certain element of folks who have deeply held views on subjects like religion, sex, politics...you have to be prepared to take the response you get. AND...though I am not setting myself up as an example here...I have learned that it pays to treat those other opinions with respect and gentleness. No one appreciates having their throats cut out over something they believe deeply in. That goes both ways. Hang out awhile..and read all you can get. There is a lot to learn here and a LOT of terrific people...real people with real feelings and real ability to express those in words. We are communicators after all. If I whump on somebody..they are gonna come whump back. Sometimes..it is worth a calculated risk...but you have to learn to not take yourself too seriously.

Hugs,
Bobbie

One more thing, Big. Joanne is one of the loveliest people here..and Bill is about as far removed from mean as you can get. When my husband died last summer...he and his wife drove all the way down from Michigan to Nashville to give me their love and support. When Bill said to 'tread lightly'...he merely meant to be careful about picking on me. Ease off. There is room here for everyone..but NO one needs to start name calling here.

Hugs,
Bobbie

Howdy Joe,

I think it is an old Don Williams song that says...
when right is right and left is wrong and north and south can't get along.
I think that came out in the 80's. Funny how things don't seem to change much sometimes.

Yeah, it will be interesting if Hillary runs. I think we are well overdue for a woman president! [Linked Image] If things hadn't started floundering so bad for this administration I suspect that Condi mighta had a chance. Now THAT woulda been a race to watch!! Yeeehawww!! [Linked Image] Yeah...a woman's place IS in the House...and the Senate..and the Oval Office! Now what goes with the Presidential seal..hmmm, cream? Gold? Slate blue? Yeah, that's it! Oh, and get me my boots, I need ta kick some butt!! LOL

Hugs,
Bobbie

Howdy John,

I do understand what you are saying...but I don't believe that the folks are over there ARE fighting JUST for the right of free speech and think that intimating so in my lyric really would demean their efforts. They are fighting for all our freedoms. I just happen to believe that our current administration is shortchanging us all in that regard...and it IS timeless to consider all that we are going through these days...without a well-thought out plan either to deal with issues here at home or abroad. JMO and I'm sticking to it (unless events prove me wrong) [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

Bob,

That's just the thing.
I too believed the Liberal spin on the McCarthy era UNTIL I read the history.

But being a leftie, you will never read Ann Coulter's TREASON because facts get totally in the way of the Liberal agenda, the political obsession of which is the destruction of the present administration.

It is so like a leftie to swollow his party's rewrite of history because it facilitates Conservative disdain. [Linked Image]

Bobbie,

Good grief!!!

I said LAURA INGRAHAM

NOT Dr. Laura., who's arrogant tone I cannot stand.

Open those eyes wider! [Linked Image]

Also you said:
do not place that woman's thoughts and writings on a pedestal as being "fact".

Tch, tch. . . slightly clever communication.
(meaning competitive spirit inherent within)
What I said was ,

"ample factual substance behind her countless articles".

Terry

I've enjoyed reading this thread in it's entirety until the response to Big came up because I do believe it goes both ways and the insinuations were just as bad.

I think it's wonderful that you are respected Bobbie but if you weren't so well known I still hope you wouldn't have gotten the same treatment that a new member got and I did feel real bad for the treatment he received from those of us who I esteemed as knowing better. I hope it's over with and freedom of speech and opinion prevails! Now, I need to read Tampa's new song...sounds interesting! Linda A.

Not to *quite* get off-topic, but I have tended to agree with Robert Heinlein that the first woman President will be a conservative, may very well be black (think combination Elizabeth Dole and Barbara Jordan), and probably will have been Vice-president first. In other words, probably not Hillary--though I 'spect she'll give it a run for the money we won't soon forget.

I'll work on the termite farts. Anybody got any idea what termite farts *sound* like? It'd be nice to use 'em for punctuatory special effects--like for the lead break.

Big Acoustic
I think I've had about enough of you. It seems when someone agrees with you, you take offense. When someone disagrees with you, you take offense. When some supports you, you take offense., when someone offers a suggestion you take offense.
You resort to name calling, accusing someone of stealing from you, and obviously have no respect for the law or our government or any of the fine folks that post in this forum.
I'd be curious to see what you would write about our previous President. You know, the one who allowed the poultry industry to destroy Arkansas' fresh water system, the one who cheated on his wife, The one involved in a major swindle that cost some people and our taxpayers millions of dollars, The one who, Under oath, said "I did not have sex with that woman", of course most ultra liberals don't call that a lie, I'm sure you don't. What a wonderful role model for our youth. And of course his wonderful wife who never spoke out and said what he did was wrong, or divorced him for it.
Why? It would have hurt her political career.

What a sad thing. I would like to know what other women would have done if it was their husband. I know what mine would have done. I would not still be married to her.
I never said you should not post a song here. I said you should not post a political rant written in essay form and call it a song. You can post anything you want as long as it's in a reasonable song, music format. What you posted didn't even come close.
The LAW I referred to is just that. A LAW handed down by the courts and our judicial system. But, you disregarded that as well. Instead you said I wrote it about your lyric. I did not write it. Our government did. I posted it as a point of information and in my opinion you rant fits it to a tee. I even thought it was scary that we had a law like that. But, you disregarded that part. But, that's what you do.
You call me mean. Well I suppose I am.
I don't like Bill Clinton. I think he is an immoral slob. But, I don't write songs about the man. I don't think it is my place to do so.
I think it is probably mean people like me that fought and died for your right to preach your political rhetoric. BTW, your so called lyric was just that. Rhetoric stolen from a host of news reporters, columnist, talk show hosts, commentators, etc. There was not a single word in it that had not been spoken or written by someone else over the last 4 or 5 years.

I tried to avoid posting anything that either supported or condemned our present administration. What I did say was I support our government, our Bill of Rights, and our Constitution. You know, those little pieces of paper that give you the right to post your rant.

Whether you stick around here or not is not my decision but if you choose to leave I for one will not stand in your way.
Have you actually posted a "song/lyric" here yet?
I don't think I posted a single word attacking you. I only pointed out that this is a song writing forum, not a political debate arena.
As far as treading lightly. I still suggest it. The lady in question is a dear friend and I have the utmost respect for her and will come to her defense in whatever way fits the occasion.
I, for one, will no longer respond to anything you have written or posted. Goodbye.

Bobbie, I am sorry for putting this in your thread but I for one have had enough of this guy.

Howdy Tampa,

The kudos are greatly appreciated though I know it musta cost ya to say that! [Linked Image] I am in the same ballpark when it comes to supporting each and every person who is over there fighting for us back here at home. I would NEVER demean their efforts. My dad and uncles fought in WW2. I have ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War...and freedom is more than just a word to me!! I appreciate what you and Dawg and all those other guys did for us in Nam too...even though I believed we were wrong to be there..you still had and have my love and appreciation. I know what it cost so many guys over there and to come "home" to a thankless public should be the ultimate shame of this nation. IMO..war should never be a political decision...but alas...it always seems to end up being that way in this country.

BPH,
Bobbie

LOL Yeah..guess I wasn't reading that one too carefully. Thought you were talking about Dr. Laura. Don't care for her either. Never have heard Laura Ingraham either. Don't waste my time listening to those talk radio shows...conservative OR liberal. It is all just soundbyte journalism...and all too often those soundbytes are way off the mark when it comes to facts. They can be bent and twisted to "sound" like truth. As I said about Ms Coulter...there are always "facts"...but whether she uses them or not they are always "bent" to conform to her perception of reality...which I clearly do not share. She is not in competition with me...nor I with her. We just do not see things in the same light. I certainly do not feel any need to compete with her...or you...on what is fact and what is spin. I do, however, find that rabid radicalism to be a frightening thing...on either end of the pendulum. [Linked Image]

Hillary Clinton's Immigration Flip-flop

2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton complained Wednesday that some Republicans want to impose a "police state" to deal with illegal immigration, arguing instead that illegals should be allowed to earn their U.S. citizenship.

But just three short years ago, Mrs. Clinton took a different tack, boasting that she was "adamantly against" foreigners who enter the country illegally and saying that the U.S. should consider imposing a national ID card system.

"I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," Clinton said in a Feb. 2003 radio interview.

Clinton said the U.S. "might have to move toward an ID system even for citizens" in order to combat illegal border crossings, or implement "at least a visa ID, some kind of an entry and exit ID."

As of Wednesday, however, the former first lady's immigration policy had clearly evolved.

A position paper issued by her Senate office urged that citizenship be made available for illegals and argued that get-tough immigration policies were impractical.

Saying she opposes "one-sided solutions that simply sound tough," Mrs. Clinton urged the U.S. to create "a path to earned citizenship for those who are here, working hard, paying taxes [and] respecting the law."

In an apparent bid to have it both ways, the top Democrat explained: "I neither support illegal immigration nor the enactment of fruitless schemes that would penalize churches and hospitals for helping the truly needy . . . We should not unduly punish the overwhelming majority of immigrants who work hard, raise families, pay their taxes, and contribute to their communities."

Hi Linda,

Whether I am known here or not..I think the fact that over the years I have invested countless hours in sincere attempts to help everyone who posts here on this thread is what folks respect and respond to...and yes..had Big that same track record here I suspect he would have been given a bit more latitude. That is simple human reaction. When folks "feel" attacked whether it is real or imagined..they tend to react instinctively and attack back. I suspect you can relate to that too. [Linked Image] For the most part...people here are totally civil and actually NICE to each other. When someone new comes on and people perceive that person to be deliberately provoking or agitating others...they tend to not enjoy that.

My being well known is a result of being a regular poster here since the summer of 1998. I am still here as much as my schedule will permit because this place has given me far more than I could ever repay...in realtime friendships I will have for the rest of my life...but mostly in knowledge gained from reading and analyzing all kinds of lyrics and forcing myself to try to determine what seems to be working and what could possibly be improved.

I do not enjoy seeing anyone ripped open for any reason..real or imagined. We are all adults here and I would hope can learn to bend instead of break. I don't know Big..but I do believe he probably got what he expected with his song. I do hope he will stick around awhile. I think he could learn to like this place. [Linked Image]

Hugs,
Bobbie

keeping the politics aside, this is well written and I enjoyed it. If you want a cut, you might want to stick with the original inspiration and make it just about the soldier.

LOL Joe...if someone says they DO know what termite farts sound like...I wanna KNOW!! [Linked Image] [Linked Image] Think you can prolly just get by with something that sounds a bit like braaaa-a-a-a-ppppp!! LOL

Think your assessment of the logic behind a female president is also prolly solid. I just hope and pray I live long enough to see it actually happen...a black and a woman would be great IMO. But..that said...she is gonna have to be better than any man would to be considered a success. That is just the way of things, sadly.

Hey Bobbie,

Did you say you were going to write one using "Pillory Hillary"? [Linked Image]
You should!

I was just singing to myself, to the tune of
"Goodbye cruel world, I'm off to join the circus. . gonna be, a broken-hearted clown. . ."

but using: "Dubai Ports World. . .

Hi Bobbie
I went to the ozone web site and read the whole thing. Very interesting stuff, although the chemistry formulas just gave me a headache. Us dumb country boys are like that.
I think i neglected to tell you that I had no problem "getting" it when I read your lyric. And, I liked it.
I think the Dixie Chicks got a bum rap. I don't necessarily agree with them but I think they have a right to their opinion.
Thank goodness they still show their videos on VH1. I really enjoy their music. They are fantastic musicians, not to mention they are "Hot". And in no way would I boycott their music because of their political views. Heck, if I did that I'd have to quit reading your lyrics or listening to Bob Youngs songs. That would certainly be a travesty and my loss.

Howdy Tall One... [Linked Image]

Well, you know us 'receptive' women! [Linked Image] Gotta keep our minds clean by changing 'em occasionally. Actually, I don't see Hillary's position as being different than what it was originally. What she has always opposed is people who do come to this country illegally. However, simply being against that does nothing to solve the very real problem that already exists...of the millions of people who are already here illegally. Her most recent paper is a proposal to address that situation and provide some real solutions, not simply an administrative acknowledgement that "Houston, we have a problem." Not sure what source you got this from but it clearly was written to cast her efforts in a negative light without any attempt to look at the content of what is being proposed, nor to determine the feasibility of those proposals. Hmmmm...now who would possbily DO such a thing? Couldn't be those 'right-wing' talking heads who are scared she might actually make some sense, now could it? LOL

Bobbie

Howdy Cat,

Good to see you back around here again. [Linked Image]Thanks so much for the kind comments on this. This really is just about the soldier. It is his take on things that he felt matter to this country. He starts off talking about the generalities and ends up talking about himself...just me trying to provide an unexpected twist at the end. [Linked Image]

Appreciate your read and remarks a lot.

Hi Linda...yes..you are definitely right. You know you can lead a horse...

Glad you enjoyed the enhancers bit. Sometimes I have a tendency to try to interject a bit of humor in what could become a tense situation...and I really don't take myself too seriously. Life is way too short for that.

WHEEEEEE, My buddy, Ms Bobbie sure did stir up a hornet's nest here. Thought I might just as well buzz in and offer 2 cents worth of my thoughts on the subject of her lyric, which is-- The right of all Americans to enjoy freedom of speech! The Chicks were penalized for saying what they think! That was wrong. Personally, I felt they were right when they said what they said. Now my view on the president? I have long thought there was a snake in the BUSH and he should have had his head cut off a long time ago, before he was able to arm himself with the Supreme Court majority. He has lied, schemed, stolen from the poor to give to the rich. He's responsible for the deaths and wounding of our brave soldiers sent to Iraq before our inspectors were finished with thier search for WMD. He pulled troops out of the search for his good friend and business associate, Bin Laden,(see Mike Moore's film) who admitted his guilt for the 911 massacre, then took a huge bow for all the times after 911 that we didn't get attacked!! Like--He is our SAVIOR and can keep the bad guys from our shores. Then he wants to sell our ports to the Arabs. He "allows" the gas prices to go up, up, up and down, then up, up, up daily for the same gas that was in the barrels yesterday. He allows all of the wetbacks already in our country amnesty and our borders are a joke. Soon we will be trying to move to Mexico to get our jobs back. He has had to borrow billions of dollars from China but, a couple of years ago, he rewarded all of us good citizens with a few bucks when he first went into office and Clinton left him a huge pot of money to PLAY with. He has committed acts of treason and gotten away with it. My feelings for him have gotten so darn strong, I blame him personally for the grape juice I just spilled on my favorite blouse. He should go hunting with Cheney. Two mis-fired bullets could add up to a manslaughter charge. That would kill two birds with one stone! Look at all the grief we could save if we don't have to IMPEACH, which , by the way, is in the works according to CNN today. It is great to vent like this and I thank God that Bush hasn't been in office long enough to take away my right to do so! Did I say I was a Republican or a Democrat?? I am neither one! I am an American, born and raised and if Bush wants to spy on me he had better get a bigger camera and a better microphone because as I gain weight, my mouth also gets bigger and I just had a large coffee and a Dunkin Donut!!! Kruschev said that Russia would conquer us from within
and then he probably arranged to get another commie, Bush and his gang into the Whitehouse. OK Guess that is about 2 bucks worth of rant!! Charge it to my credit card

Howdy Mr Bill...

To be quite honest...I kinda skipped over some of that chemistry stuff...but read enough to understand what they were talking about. That stuff just gets a bit heavy for anyone, academic or redneck!! [Linked Image] One of the points I was really hoping to make with this is what you just said...our politics should not determine who gets to hear what music. This nation was formed on diversity. It is what makes us strong. I think the Chicks are incredible musicians and love their sound. I have missed them. When I saw this soldier's letter I just had to do a lyric.

Hugs,
Bobbie

If Ida know you guys would get this much mileage out of my comment on the termite farts I woulda mentioned em a lot sooner. But I shoulda known you could take it and run with it Joe. After all, I seen what you could do with a roll of duct tape and a hubcap.
You're about one of the funniest people I think I ever met.
If I could write a song around Termite farts I would but I think I'll leave that one to you. [Linked Image]

Cause I'm outa here. Say hello to Ms. Baez for me. I could care less if she's famous or not.

Hi Big..

That may very well be true...but I do know many of the other folks here on this forum rather well, not only from here but in real time. It is unfortunate...but it can be tough to undo a bad first impression...especially when you seem bent on perpetuating it by continuing to lash out at everyone around you. I am sure that hurts you more than anyone else and that makes me feel bad for you. [Linked Image]

A lot of these folks come to Pineyfest every summer...an event that my husband, Dawg and I started 5 years ago. We get together and share good times and some great (and some mediocre) music! LOL Along the way we've discovered that the things we share in common are far more important than any differences we might have. You might try it. You'd be welcome.

Sincerely,
Bobbie

Hi Big,

I see that you edited your post above...and also noted that at least you and I agree on Ms. Baez. I have been a fan of hers since she first appeared on the folk scene...because of her music...and what she has to say. I also went to your website...and it is clear that you are probably an excellent musician. Unfortunately, your site doesn't provide much for anyone to go on regarding your music. Your marketing techniques could support your music more strongly than they do. I also see that we most likely have similar roots...grew up in MI, lived in CO for years..spent most of my 30+ year career in environmental stuff. Sorry you chose to write everyone off here in some misguided and unproductive tantrum. [Linked Image] Everyone IS welcome here...just not certain types of counterproductive behaviors.

Sincerely,
Bobbie
