Just thought I'd drop a line to see if there is anyone in Providence checking the message boards. Frank from Buffalo.

Joanne, Glad to see that there's someone there. How's the music scene in Providence? Here in Buffalo you can go out every night to more than one open mic and do your thing. The place is filled with great performers. Some of them even make money at it! Frank V.

Hey Frank - Things are picking up in my little state. More & more open mics are popping up. Our local songwriting association (RISA) is becoming quite active offering lots of opportunities to get out, sing & network. Looking forward to the JPF road trip - I understand the last trip through was lots of fun. Thanks for asking - Take care Joanne www.joannelurgio.com

Hey folks... I'm J. Slick. I'm a full time entertainer in the Rhode Island area. Music scene here is pretty lame. I'm a blues, rock, jazz guy. This state makes it very hard for tavern and entertainment venue owners to exist (drunk drivers, fires and pandering pols don't help the situation). I note that in the last 10 yrs, clubs have been reduced by about half in the area.
BUT... you can still find some good music... it just takes some serious looking.
So... keep looking... and support local LIVE music as you can.
Peace, Slick

Slick, About the same thing has been happening here in Buffalo. The drunk driving penalties have really hurt the bar business. To make matters worse the state has enacted a smoking ban on all restaurants in the state. That has put many spots out of business. I used to go out and play to dozens of patrons. Now if there is a dozen at a venue it's a lot. It may be that the only music we will hear in the future will be canned. I hope not! But I'm cynical about the future of live music. Frank V.
