I'm BAAACCKKKK!!!!!!! And tanner (is that a word?) than before...and the Mrs is MUCH mellower after six days on the beach.... ...And NO...I DON'T mean backup singing... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) OK, come on...be honest. When was the last time you backed up your hard disk? I backed up the last song I finished to CD about three weeks ago. My latest system backup disk is about six months old and I'm nearly done with two songs that I'll back up individually when the mastering is done early next week. I use Retrospect for backup, BTW. Works for PCs and for Macs - about $60 as a download. www.dantz.com (I'm not affiliated with them) ------------------ Larry www.audibleresponse.com

Larry, I'm jealous!! Hope you had your share of Poi, Lihue, Wailea, Napali Cliffs, Black sand beaches, Wettest spot on earth, all of Kuaii. I actually studied that particual island at school for a project but I have never gone. Someday.... Anyway I found a place that masters CDs for $99.00 yeah thats right only 99.00 They claim to do just about everything too. Monitor, EQ, noise reduction, and volume normalization. Let me know if you have heard of them http://www.alonesoul.com They even will master two songs for 5.00 to see if you like it. I know it sounds too good to be true. I might give them a reviewing. I'll send in two songs for the $5 bucks. But I can bet my last dollar that they are not as experienced as they'd have you believe. The reasons why some people charge the money they do is based on track record and the ears behind the mastering. They're offering noise reductions and sonic improvements. Well, I could offer you that as well. I have a noise gate (there's your noise reduction). And I also have a limiter (there's your volume increase - a sonic improvement to some). But that isn't enough. I haven't heard of a single band they reference so I can't even say what they've done. But if I do send in two songs, I'll gladly send my thoughts on their service. David, I'm a snorkeler (and a little kayaking), so I hang at the snorkel beachs: Ke'e, Tunnels, Lydgate, Salt Pond, Poipu, Lawaii; but we did see the various waterfalls and did a bit of hiking near the Napali area (the "Bali Hi" cliffs). The black sand beaches are mostly on the big island (along with salt/pepper, white, tan and GREEN sand). I don't know of anything but regular tan sand on Kauai. On the mastering stuff...Well, you certainly can't lose much for $5.00. I couldn't find their equipment list, so my suspicion is that they are using a regular DAW with plugins (vs a Sadie mastering workstation or high-end analog gear). Maybe if you email them, they'll send you a sample of before/after stuff they've done? ------------------ Larry www.audibleresponse.com [This message has been edited by Lwilliam (edited 10-29-2002).]

I actually make redundant copies of my songs as I'm working on them. I have a second hard drive in the computer, strictly for backing up what I'm recording. That way I always have a copy. I learned the hard way in the middle of a backup once and lost 20 songs. Jody www.jodywhitesides.com

I used 4 Maxtor Firewire Drives. I have 320 Gig of member music on them formatted for the RFV channel (or partially.. we're still ack.. working on this stuff...). They are coming out with a new 320 gig single drive and I plan to get it immediately to back up all THESE drives! You can fit abotu 6000 songs on a 320 Gig drive.. which is about how many we have at this point (out of the 150,000 songs members have sent in since we started).
