Just finished a scratch copy of this tribute to Hank.. Any suggestions appreciated. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=100639 vs 1 I was born the year that Hank died, 1953. momma used to sing his songs to me I could hear that lonesome whippoorwill, calling out to me. when I was just a baby on her knee. vs 2 They say it was a BluesMan that blessed his guitar strings. They say the good Lord showed him how to sing. Down in Alabama there is a place, where drifters aren't alone Just look for the white hat set in stone. chorus I bet Hank found an old guitar in a shop on heavens streets and joined right in that heavenly choir, as the angels tapped their feet. Cause I heard him sing I Saw The Light, and that's good enough for me. The Grandest Opry of them all. was back in 53.... Luke The Drifter was a Ramblin man, often heard to preach. Be careful of the stones you throw, he'd teach. And then he'd hear that high and lonesome sound, whisper in the wind. and off he'd go a ramb-ling again

Louis, Very nice song. Simplicity is a good word. It works for me. Good lyrics. I loved how you used the "I'm So lonesome I could cry" reference in the first verse. Good job.
Got you both beat though. 1949, ouch.terribob

A very nice tribute, Louis! My parents used to listen to Hank Williams a lot so I grew up hearing his songs. I was born in the state where he died (WV). I was born right between you and Terribob - 1951.

Hey Louis:
You're making changes?
Hard to imagine what - it seems about perfect. I'm not a big Hank fan but I think you did a great job on this. Lots of references to him but, strangely, it works even if you don't get them. Kinda like Vincent by Don McLean in that sense.
Great lyrics.
Jeeze - I'm a puppy compared to you guys.

Hi Scott59 (You young pup) Guess we posted at the same time. Yeah I'm always re-writing. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) I wanted to make reference to his whitehat. There is a white hat made of stone at his grave, like the one he always wore.

Well, the new version is an improvement. Better performance and the changes to the lyrics, while mostly subtle, make it stronger.
Nice work, Louis.

Thanks for listening again Scott. Yeah I had too many "E" sounds in the 1st verse in the original version. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif)

Hi Louis,
I just listened to the new version; I agree with Scott I like the subtle melody changes and the lyric changes in the first verse. Nice work!

Thanks Clint. I'm finished with it now. I lowered the key so I could sing it. Here's the new lyrics.I Appreciate all the encouragment you guys gave me on this. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=100639 vs 1 I was born the year that Hank died,1953. They say the good Lord showed him how to sing. From the Hayride to the Opry, his white hat is well known. In Alabam now its set in stone. chorus I bet Hank found an old guitar in a shop on heavens streets and joined right in that heavenly choir, as the angels tapped their feet. I listened to Hank's song. I thought you did a good job with the song. I also thought of "David Ball" doing this song.
Keep it up.

Well, I'm resurrecting Hank, so to speak. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) I sent this off to a publisher for a critique, he pointed out the lyrics would date the singer as an old 53 year old, and no 53 year olds have recording contracts. So being the Tin Pan Alley kindof guy that I am, I changed the 1st verse so anybody, any age could sing it. Still no hope of a cut unless somebody wants to do a Hank tribute. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=100639 New lyrics "Hank-1953" (Louis Twinn) .vs 1 Your Cheatin Heart was on when Hank died,1953 Radio still loved that old country. He would sing about that whippoorwill, that's too blue to fly. It left you so lonesome you would cry. vs 2 They say it was a BluesMan that blessed his guitar strings. They say the good Lord showed him how to sing. From the Hayride to the Opry, his white hat is well known. In Alabam now its set in stone. chorus I bet Hank found an old guitar in a shop on heavens streets and joined right in that heavenly choir, as the angels tapped their feet.
