Dear Christine: I'm sorry I didn't welcome you sooner. I've been a busy boy of late. I know there is a thriving scene in Guelph, and Keith Thompson has songwriters cafe events going all the time there. Unfortunately, I live in Ottawa, so I can't be down there as much as I would like. You didn't mention what type of music you write, or would like to write. I travel throughout Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic for my job, and I try to plan my trips to the GTA around NSAI meetings in Brampton whenever I can, which is occasionally. Maybe we can meet up at some point. Drop me a line when you get a chance, and we can at least put out the illusion that there are some of us up here. Hi Christine: I'm Russ from Barrie, ON. I am a children's singer/songwriter, but I've just completed my 3rd children's CD and I'm now looking to work on some of the adult songs that I wrote before getting into children's music. My songs are inspired by a wide variety of artists: Cat Stevens, Beatles, Beach Boys. I have a home studio, and I plan on starting some rough demo work (just guitar and rough vocals). I'm doing this project for fun only, while I'm in between children's CDs. At the very least, it'll be something I can share with my family and friends. My brother and I both play guitar and sing, but it might be nice to see what other instruments would fit each song. I do have other keyboard players who I use on my children's CDs, but for this project I'd like to experiment with some different styles and sounds. If you're at all interested in collaborating in this way, let me know. I would snail mail you the rough demos and the chord charts and lyrics on a CD, as I record them. My brother lives in Hamilton, ON, so much of our collaboration would probably be done apart, playing along to the demo CD (in the beginning anyway). http://www.russmusic.net
