I got a response from a videographer that wants to use my song for his film project. I see that he charges for his service and he sells VHS and DVD's of his material. I was thinking if negotiations go well($) i will send him a sync license (if thats correct) for the right to use that song for that film. What exactly am i entiltled to ($)? Can I still receive ASCAP royalties because I'm sure this is not a bigtime videographer?

Hi, Yes, you'll want to negotiate a license to give permission to use the music in the film. Note, that if this is a demo where you did not play all the instruments and/or sing all the vocals, you also need to obtain clearance releases from all the musicians and singers (and if it was a union session, you'd need to compensate them). Depending on the film's budget and where the song will appear in the film will obviously affect the amount you will receive. You can check with your ASCAP rep, but I'm fairly certain they won't pay any royalties on this. Best wishes, -Danny ------------------ ---------------------- Danny Arena/Sara Light www.SongU.comSongwriting Courses Online
