I recently played a gig in NYC and was afterwards contacted by TwinVision who deal in radio promotion. As I'm looking into getting my music to radio at the moment, I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with them or could suggest any other relevent companies I could look in to. Thanks ------------------ http://www.paulinetaylor.co.uk

How much are they asking you for?
Run... run like hell... nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is going to get an indie any significant radio play.

Hi Pauline, I'm not familiar with TwinVision... but contrary to what some of the other posters have said, there ARE legitimate radio promoters out there who can be hired to assist indie artists in obtaining radio play. I've never used them, but I've always been impressed by the writings of radio promoter, Bryan Farrish, who's series of articles 'Radio Promotion 101' are very informative. I think you can find some of them on indie-music.com Promoters usually have promotion packages that are broken down by region and can be pricey. It's pointless to use a promoter however if you're not actively touring and don't have retail distribution in the area as well. Good luck, Christine www.thedropband.com

I call 'significant' radio play something on the mainstream FM channels for the given genre, where you hear songs that are currently on the Billboard charts...
What do YOU call 'significant' radio play? A couple of college stations or mom-and-pop AM? A local hot act can do that for themselves just by sending out CDs and visiting the stations in person.
Show me one promoter who has gotten an indie performer radio play on a top market station... I'm not talking one or two spins to adverstise a local talent show, now...
It just doesn't happen, because even the BIG players jockey for position... there was a recent article about how the Stones' latest wasn't getting any airplay because basically the lable wasn't spreading a lot of money around...
And 'pricey' means thousands of dollars per spin in those leagues, with high-five to low-six figures for total 'promotional' packages (read: glorified payola masked as advertising by the label).
One thing I do agree with the previous poster about... what's the point of shelling out for radio play if you're not touring the area and/or don't have retail product available?

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
