Hello everyone.
I recently recieved a request from the Hot LIve Bands & HLB Entertainment to use one of my songs for a copilation cd they are putting together. Not being completely educated in that area of music I thought I'd ask you folks some questions.
1) what does something like this usually accomplish other than providing "perhaps" a larger audience?
2)How do you tell if its a scam or not?
3) And Finally, is there anything that I can do to protect myself in the event that I decide its something to take on.
Most everything I have is already produced, and recorded (of course always working on new material) however the publishing end is where I"m lacking. Any suggestions at this point would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!

Well, we know what's on your mind, ha ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) I'd say the first thing to look for is if they're going to charge you anything for the priviledge of having your song on the CD Bill

Well now, I've been caught!!! Ok, so I've shot off the first responce asking for additional details. What is the "status quo" with this kind of situation. I've heard horror stories about this sort of thing. I have tried to search for this company, their website basically says they are updating thier "internet" presence and to check back.

I have recieved the same e-mail with the same results.I have produced 2 cds and was thrilled to be asked. Not sure if its a scam, but they dont seem very reliable as i have sent them several e-mails and no response forthcoming. I'll let you know if I hear anything. Please do the same for me. Btw...where is your music posted?...we are all over the web.

Guess what, I've recieved the same email. I found this topic trying to google Hot Live Bands and find out if its a know scam or whatever. Did you guys get the email from "Frank"? This is the email I recieved: ----------------------------------------- Hi there, My name's Frank from Hot Live Bands. We're putting together a compilation CD and would like to talk to you about the possibility of having 1 of your tracks featured on it. Please get back to me at contact@hotlivebands.com All the best, Frank HLB Entertainment ------------------------------------- My music is published on soundclick.com, one of those free music sites. I've replied asking for more details but haven't recieved anything back yet... Diesel - http://www.soundclick.com/diesel1988 [This message has been edited by Diesel (edited 06-09-2005).]

I've just received the same e-mail! I found this site through a search for HLB. It seems fishy to me, too. For example, all of the music on my Soundclick site is completely electronic, with no 'live' components. It also worries me that we all seem to have received exactly the same e-mail, with no attempt to personalise each one. Still, I'll reply and let you know if I hear anything... Steve ps if anyone reads Spanish there seems to be a similar discussion over here; http://www.hispasonic.com/tema64481.html ------------------ if I were you I'd soak that thing in iodine

The day I got the email I did notice someone had gone through and listened to all my songs on soundclick, usually they dont get touched. I just use soundclick as a place to store them on the web...

Yes, I got the same e-mail. I decided to ignore it since they obviously hadn't listened to my material, or they would have realized I am not a band. (I might disagree with them on the "hot," too. I am live.) Same discussion is going on over on Soundclick, by the way. Apparently a lot of people there got--well, if it ain't "spammed" I'm not sure what to call it. They're obviously not making me feel very special doing this, so I'm not going to feel very special about them, either. Joe www.soundclick.com/bands/7/joewrabekmusic.htm

Well, this definately doesn't make me to secure. I emailed "FRANK" back asking for more details and still haven't gotten a responce. I remember reading somewhere about "Hot Live Bands" and some kind of contest or tour, unfortunately I kind find it now. If, in some off the wall chance, I do recieve a responce I'll make sure to let everyone know what I've found out. Thanks everyone for speaking up!!!!

I got the same mail from Frank. No one has ever even listened to one of my song via soundclick according to there stats. The email says it came from soundclick. I dunno...one of the songs I posted there has already been on a Ween Fan Comp Cd a couple years ago, so I thought it may be true, but the first link after googling for HOT LIVE BANDS sent me here...hummm, its the kindda thing that makes you scratch your head.

The e-mail address they supplied and their web page could also be just a front for some spammers. Those who responded should see a substancial increase in spam over the next few weeks...<G>. ...well let's hope not. thebige Fake Paradise http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/fakeparadise.htm

That must be quite a compilation they're planning... how many tracks can you get on a CD, nowadays?
Kids, it's obvious that this is going to be some lame money-making scheme... they're not doing this for free, assuming they get around to doing it at all.
If they ask for money, walk away... if they want to use a song or two and send out some CD's at their own expense, then go ahead and let them use your material...
If nothing else, you get bragging rights that someone besides your mom was interested in your song... and besides, whaddya saving it for, it's just lying around anyway, right?
These comps serve little useful purpose and make no money anyway, so paranoia about copyrights and such is, well... running from shadows where the sun never did shine.
If you've gotten your material copyrighted already, you're safe from any miniscule (and I mean itsy bitsy teeny weeny make-the-lottery-look-like-a-short-odds-bet) chance that someone in the future would steal it and turn it into an earner.

Dido…lol...I fell for it too and coughed up my email address when I replied to Frank. I said "That would be amazing, I'd love to be on your CD!" That was a foolish mistake on my behalf. This is what these guys must be doing:
-Randomly picking people out of soundclick.com -Sending them a message through soundclick.com (as not all user's email addresses are shown, but yet you can still send them a message through soundclick.com itself as soundclick has your email stored in their program, but not shown in most cases) -Making it appear as if we have a golden opportunity -Snag our email address (once we reply) in order to send us spam, etc.
This is pathetic, scammers, spammers and the like are so dirty.

Got the same message three times. There's an HLB Entertainment in Mass. Check out this article: http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/towns/southburlington/22.htm I sent the person who wrote this article an email and asked if they knew if it was the same company. ------------------ Rebecca Dale Peaden http://www.soundclick.com/pro/?BandID=326683 ------------------------ Relating to the rewriting of lyrics --"Son, it ain't done until its cut--and then it ain't DONE 'til its a hit" ------------------ [This message has been edited by peaden (edited 06-14-2005).]

Lol, I guess you all know what I'm gonna say ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Received my email today, we're on also on soundclick (which I'd completely forgotten about coz no one ever goes there), http://www.soundclick.com/tripstar stats say we had 2 visits yesterday but no plays, we receive these kinds of offers quite often so never reply until checking out places like this forum (which we also found via Google HLB Entertainment search), haven't replied as yet but if we do our response is usually along the lines of "thanks for your offer, our fee is.....£xxx, please email your contract to us as a pdf or word file...." it usually sorts out the men from the boys.

I got exactly the same email... but I did indeed get some plays over the last three days.
On average I get around 1 play and download a day, now, all of a sudden, things went up to 12, 15 and 13 in total.
Quite strange just as you guys mentioned before... Maybe they want to produce a 120CD boxed set *lol*.
Well, as y'all already said: Wait and see.
Best,
MicEater

Well, one good thing that has come out of this obvious spam email that is being sent out is that some new artists found OUR website when researching that spam. I hope all of you will check out our organization and get involved. It's free and we have 26,000 members in 100 countries around the world already in the membership. This message board is just one part of what we do. To get more information, you'll need to actually join by clicking the JOIN link on our home page (click the Blue logo button at the top of this page that says "Just Plain Folks Home Page" and you'll see the join link. Being registered on the message boards doesn't make you an active member of the org.)and get involved. We send out a newsletter with info/articles, host the worlds largest music awards and have chapters (mostly in North America) to participate in.. and it's all free.
As for the spam.. well anyone who hasn't figured out it's a scam yet needs to go back and read this entire post.

another one to add to the pile - im a soundclick user - got the email (in my spam box actually) thought it sounded suss = checked google - and here we all are! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) went to the HLB page - which is all it is = 'rebuilding' their web presence apprently - but the only web presence they have is here as far as i can make out. weird that i recognise some of your names - seen desert hermit in the Line6 forums = world's a small place innit? anyone had anything more from 'Frank'? i might send 'Frank' the url to this chatroom (from some 3rd party free webmail account under a false name = obviously!!) http://www.soundclick.com/sepiroth
the first 10 million yeaars were the worst, and the second ten million = they were the worst too. after that i went into a bit of a decline....

Idea. Why don't we assemble the steamiest, raunchiest tunes of ours we can get together and put out a *real* "copulation" CD? Could call it "Hot (and Bothered) Live Bands"...

Geez-o-Pete's. I got the same email, of course. I guess that means that nobody's going to profit from it. that sucks... but then, my highest song in the soundclick charts is like three hundred and ninety something. oh well. at least lots of people are finding this just plain folks organization, I guess. (Edit) Out of curiosity, I clicked on some of the random URL's here and listened to some of you guys' music... none of the people on this thread sound like any of the other people on this thread... and if you need proof, then do what I did. I'm now convinced this is a scam. Good luck, all. ------------------ -RockTheRobot www.soundclick.com/rocktherobot [This message has been edited by RockTheRobot (edited 06-21-2005).] [This message has been edited by RockTheRobot (edited 06-21-2005).]

I received the same email from Frank of hotlivebands on 6/18. I am at SoundClick.I emailed back and said I was flattered and that they could use as many songs as they like. I am lucky if I get 1 song played a day. But I am racking up an increasing amount of page hits.
From what I have read it does sound fishy. If they ask for money, or anything else comes up with it, I will let you all know.
Gee, I wanted to be special.

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
