Hello everybody!
I just joined this greeat website. Thank you all for being here. I have about 10 out of some 75-95 finished songs (words and music) which I want to get on a demo CD. I've been reading some of ya'll's excellent posts at this great site. Seems like a good demo can be done for around $500.00 a song, if I got it right.
I do not play anything, but I can hum out some pretty elaborate guitar parts (after 20 some years of playing my "mouth guitar" LOL). I can play only some really crude keyboard parts. So when I go into a studio with some really talented musicians, I will need some who will take the time to play what I hear in my head.
Since I hear a lot of elaborate guitar parts I would like a super guitarist. What is a good rate to pay a real pro guitarirst and other session musicians? Is it the compensation established on a total project, or hourly, or per song basis? I am one hour from LA/Orange County, and San Diego. I will travel to wherever I need to, including the highly recommended Nashville.
Dumb question here, but are there a lot of rock guitarists/musicians in Nashville with rock influences from masters like Led Zep, TYA, Floyd, Yes, Marshall Tucker, Eagles?
Do you think I could get a really great demo done for say $2,000.00 a song, or $20,000.00 for the 1st group of ten songs?
Sorry for such a long question, but any input would be greatly appreciated!
JJ Morrison

JJ,
You can get good demos done for far less than 500 dollars per song. You can also spend far more. It depends on how much you need done, whether you want all live musicians or if some midi work can be used and what level of musicians and session folks you want. I suggest contacting Mark Keefner at waymomusic.com. He's JPF friendly, has a lot of legit credits in the industry is a very safe and fair resource to start with. You're welcome (and always encouraged) to look around at others as well. You should never only check with 1 place because everyone varies so widely in services and prices. But Mark is a good guy to at least start your search. He's based in LA. There's more info on his work on his website.

Hi JJ, If I might add don't go into the studio humming ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Before you book anytime find or hire a musician who can work out your song with you.. Give or hum him or her your ideas before it cost you $ by the hour.. This way, you will be able to map out your song.Very very important thing to do before recording.. It will have a key and chord structure other players will be able to follow, It will have a set tempo and an arrangement, this will make it way easier on everyone including the engineer. Then once you have some basic tracks down you can bring in guys to do parts that you can hum or sing out the ideas to right on the spot in the studio no problem.. Recording can be a world full of confusion and options.. You have to figure out your needs and most importantly your goals.. Peace Sub http://tinyurl.com/adkl6
