I just finished producing Ricky Van Shelton's upcomming album, where I sang all background vocals and played all instruments but steel and some keys. All styles welcome. For more info go to; www.rickyvanshelton.com click on "the band", I'm Tigar Bell. or email me at www.taghrmny@comcast.net Thank You

And, are we impressed?
No.

Many of us may be amateurs and part-timers but we have many "really good, esperienced" pros to fall back on and see advice from.

That being said, for you come in here and think that everyone is going to jump to your "service" is ludicrous. There are long running members here that offer the same, if not better, service.

I'd suppose that you won't show up here again, nor will you impart your knowledge so those of us who may be interested can learn.
I believe you want to take and run.
If I'm wrong, prove it.

Tigar, I'm certainly willing to forgive & forget. My only contention is your arriving here with what is basically a spam for your demo service. I think you'd have found a much beter reception had you lurked a abit, introduced yourself and made some type of contrubution to the forum before saying "Hey! Look at my stuff!"
Please do stick around and become a member of this very vital and alive community. There is no doubt there is quite a lot to learn from one in your position, as there is much to learn from the likes of Bob Young, Mike Dunbar, Graham Henderson, Jody Whitesides & numerous other, really exellent, knowledgable folks.
Shoot, Michael Borges can probably teach you something about playing that chin instrument you saw on with some horsehair, If you were open to it.
Hang around man, & welcome, really. [Linked Image]

Hey Tigar, I had the chance to follow your link & got to the mp3 site. Nice fiddle work there. I particularly liked "Stay With Me".
Hell of a nice resume there.

By the way, "Wild Eyed Dream" is my favorite album of Ricky's.

Hey Tigar:

Glad you found this bulletin board and I hope it brings you a lot of business. I am impressed by Tigar's work; he played fiddle on one of my tunes at Galen Breen's Gator Hole and he can flat out play. No if's, ands, or buts about it. He can play. Listening to samples on MP3.com and a cut he emailed to me from "Ricky's" upcoming album. He can record real well also. His prices fall into my price range; I plan on using him quite a bit in the future.

Hello Everyone!
Very interesting topic here. First off, Daklander, thanks for encouraging Tigar to get involved and contribute a bit more on these boards. That's always a good thing to before, during and after becoming "famous & successful"! [Linked Image]

Jerry, (aka LyricFinder) thanks for posting a very cool demo file of Tigar playing his fiddle. Yeah, it's great stuff and I wish I could play like that! I like to think I play well too, but I'll explain that further below.

Tigar, welcome to JPF! You seem to have plenty of connections, talent and experience, etc. From what little I heard so far, your violin playing is very cool and obviously you've got enough artistic talent to light up more than one fire! [Linked Image]

Some things I'd like to contribute today:

1. Regarding our level of musical talent, it's an on-going process. I thought I was pretty good 20 years ago, and today I'm better, but in different & unexpected ways. For example, 20 years ago I was playing mostly cover material as a "back up" violinist with other bands. Today I'm responsible for most of my own songwriting, arranging, composing and in many cases, solo playing, or me playing several tracks to mix up a small ensemble, duos, trios and/or quartets, etc.

Wow, that's a whole different ball game.
Am I better at it then what I did before?? Maybe, but maybe not. It's just different, but it's challenging me to go beyond anything I've ever dreamed of, even as little as 4 years ago!

2. We all have various talents and strengths. The coolest thing is to network, share and learn from each other. That's priceless, you can't pay for that kind of interaction, opportunities and collaboration results. Let's do what we need to do to keep going professionally or at least keep us going in our chosen direction. At the same time, let's network, share, learn and inspire each other to greater achievements.

3. Finally, my 2 cents on violin playing:
There's a big difference in the following kinds of performance:
1. Playing classical vs. Country or Pop.
2. Playing Solo vs. Back up.
3. Playing Blues vs. Blue grass.
4. Playing Jazz vs. Folk music.

Again, the point is that a great violinist who "shines" in one specialty may sound just average (by comparison) in another style or genre. It all depends on what you grew up with and what you've decided to "focus" on at a later (adult) level.

Thanks everyone for keeping this fun, friendly and inviting for all of us! [Linked Image]

Best regards,
Michael Borges

Michael,

Add Cuban, soul, electronic and improvisational to your categories and you'll pretty much be describing Eddie Drennon. a Washington, D.C. and New York area legend.

He was one of the prime innovators of the electric violin 40 years ago and his talent has only been magnified over the decades.

Though I am not a fiddle man, I owe more to Eddie than he will ever know. Growing up in an affluent area in suburban Maryland, I never dreamed it would be a slightly built black musician and arranger who would be the one to teach this cocky white boy how to believe in my own talents.

Thanks to Eddie, I will always have a fondness for all good fiddle players. And when they are great, so much the better.

Hi Tigar:
I just wanted to let you know that I wasn't offended by your initial post. I think you, like most of us who join for the first time, are real excited to find a place like this, and that excitement usually spills over in our first few posts. There's really no need for you to apologize for your initial excitement.
Take Care, Russ

Tigar,

Great to have you here. You might want to post at the Songwriter board. Also, we have a recording board that could benefit from your expertise.

One suggestion that may help get you demo work here: encourage your clients to post their songs on our MP3 critique forum. I've gotten demo work in the past from songwriters who've heard things I've done there.

Since you "do it all" you might not need one, but if you are ever looking for a bassist on your productions, give me a call.

All the Best,
Mike

Hi! Most welcome to JPF and sorry if some of us seem to "take" your introductory posting in the wrong manner! Anyone that plays for any of the top artists today should not have to have an "introductory's introduction:.....that said, I'd almost pass a bet that if you'd said you were the fiddle player for Shania, Dixie Chicks or some other top top's artist...that there'd been a larger and louder welcome! It seems that Ricky Van has kind of diminished in popularity amongst the younger set a bit....though I think he's got one of the smoothest voices heard publically in a long time....some of his latest works don't "showcase" that marvelous set of vocal pipes he has....but then too, one has to try and keep up with what sells or one doesn't keep on the turntable much...do they?
Anyway, welcome to JPF....just watch for someone to post for directios to get a demo made....usually will see them on the songwriter page or even in the lyrical postings.....I see we have a number of "new" lyricists on the forum boards, so that should bring you some business that way....though if you're working with Rick Van Shelton...how are you going to have the time to do demo work on a continum basis? Just a thought! And most of all, best of best wishes to you and your endeavors!

Dear JPF members:
Below is the subscription address for a new group I am starting for sognwriters at yahoo.com This will be a springboard for information I have to tell all my co-writers and folks interested in working with me. Posting should be semi infrequent so you won't be blasted with a lot of stuff you don't want to know about. What type of music I am looking for in what genre etc. Also this is an opportunity to plug the first single on my new record label "Little Toy Train", performed by Tigar Bell. Hope to have it played on approximately 50 country stations this Christmas. For more information check us out on the web at http://www.dawgtraxmusic.com or sign up for the newsgroup/newsletter.
thanks
Jerry

FYI:

Had the opportunity to meet Tigar face to face the weekend before thanksgiving. Left three songs for him to work on and have several more for the future including numerous songs of interest, collaborated efforts, etc from folks on this board. I write a lot with Leanne47960, am in the process of fleshing out the song above by ECA333 (Tigar did an excellent job on that one). Am looking for support in all forms for my new label. I need writers, artists, investors, publicists. The whole nine yards. Am looking for tracks done at the Gatorhole, (Galen Breen) simple demo or elaborate it doesn't matter. And any song Tigar does the trax is defnitely worth having in my publishing catalog and a high percentage of these will be cut on CD's.

I gave Tigar Bell a try on one of my lyrics.
I went with the simple package and I am
impressed. Production, sound quality,
professionalism. I don't want to sound like
I'm trying to endorse Mr. Bell, but I would/
will recommend his services.
