Well he ought to know . No idea what he feels on 2026 songwriters . Who knows . So everybody is going to say new writers and new music sucks . cuz basically they were born in 1952 or so, and basically live in the past . Talk about the weather and doctors . Arthritis is kicking up, here comes winter. Play that Journey song again .

Did Billy Joel change his lingo on that new song he wrote on Howard Stern Show ? I bet he did to fit 2026 lingo .

https://nashvillecalifornia.com/has-the-lingo-in-song-lyrics-changed-over-the-years/

He is a funny guy though . Typical New Yorker and that lingo . Forget About it . I guess everyone's is in the mob in New York lol. Maybe he owns piece of the mob garbage collectors union . Let's say 2 % . Get Flatnose Tony on the horn .

Nice article. Not sure if you can change lingo, today texting language and abbreviations seem like different planet.

Youngins, say I dont know, Idk , like, lemme know lmk, , smh, shaking my head, ikr, I know right?

The way we communicate has changed, shorter is better, if your songs needed economy in 1976, they REALLY need economy in 2026, just to keep attention.

Today's music hooks in much different ways, in 1976 yiu were a songwriter, today you are a product maker, a technician, a consultant.

There's still some writers who are still really good, but, id rather be lucky than good

Back with two new knees and as a new grandpa and from a respite apartment.

I think we all know which songwriters influenced us in what ways and with Billy |Joel for me it was prosody's power with Big Shot

The way he punched that out was epic realization for me on how to make words and a song move.

For me it was how all is songs were so tasteful.

But not tasteful in a pussy or prudish way, he just was able to reach a massive audience by appealing to just about everybody.

Grandma and grandkids could listen, timeless stuff

And musically so tasteful, touch of elegance while raw at the same time.

His ability to change the sound of his voice, listen to big shot or you may be right, then listen to his falsetto on the longest time.

Intricate melodies that were still easy to sing.

I put him in top 10 of all time

His first album i found after he began to smash hit hard and i would totally rank him high and influential as a singer song writer.

I think for us a numerical ranking is largely personal and subjective but i think because we have writing songs in common we can agree on his contribution and mysical legacy. Heard a Harry Chapin song covered on The Voice and was reminded of how good he was.

What is definitely true is Couch's maxim to study the writers and music you want to write

To write hits that dont sound designed to be hits i think is an amazing thing.

I dont think I've studied Bruce or Billy or Tom petty, but probably absorbed so much from them just by listening.

Osmosis.

I'd put Warren Zevon in my top 10, sooooo underrated, a genius.

We should start a thread for this, top 10, and why

Im posting through my phone which is not good for my shoulder induced pain while typing derived from my previous posture which was terrible that carried over into this one i need for phone input.

So im up for it but after the coming weekend

That was the whole point . You're not saying groovy now . it's Sic. it's been a long time . Now it's been a minute. Rap artists are masters of new lingo
You listened to Billy Joel . Kids listen to Puff Daddy , well before he went to prison , but nobody perfect. He just got caught . Hookers and drugs , like it's an original idea. You could have dated Super models . Nope let's pay hookers lol. They're all the same snort coke buy guns . Except writers on forums . We're all walking on water .

I got off topic .Lyrics swing different now than 1975 . But love the classics for sure.

Thats what 2026 artists sound like . She's way out in left field . She's deep and a walking time bomb on real life . not fairytales
