City Lights Booksellers & Publishers City Lights Books is a landmark independent bookstore and publisher that specializes in world literature www.citylights.com
Lawrence Ferlinghetti, a founder of the beloved, iconic City Lights book store and publishing, wrote "Pity the Nation" in 2007. It was inspired by Khalil Gibran's poem of the same name, written in 1933. A time, in Europe, startlingly like the one we're living in today. This bookstore and the literary, artistic and free thinking history of San Francisco were part of what drew so many of us to that city ... I'm happy to see that some of that is still living there. PLEASE watch the poet read ... please.
