Did anybody here understand Marty's rubber ducky trade example? Since when do countries sell each other the exact same product? I'm thinking ... ok, Germany sells a Mercedes car in the US and the US sells the same Mercedes back to Germany. Why would Germany want to buy a Mercedes from the US? They have their own Mercedes cars. I liked Everett's example much better.

But I care and I want to help you, so please... the first thing that you need to do is stop watching Ratchet Madcow. She will cause your brain to vaporize into a buffalo fart.

Rubber ducks... Really, Marty? YOU'RE NOT A REAL TEXAN!
Try this...
I've worked hard all my life. I've got a nice house on a nice spread. I've got a nice garden and I tend to be quite generous.
However, my nearest neighbor is a trailer-trash pig farmer who has become far too "dependent" upon my generosity. In fact, he has become arrogantly demanding because his pigs need my corn!
So, I decide to actually make a little profit with my produce elsewhere. Screw him AND HIS STINKING BACON! I can raise my own damn pigs! Tony, I think that's a valid comparison.

Haha, Elvis. Yes, I think he thinks you wrote that song. I did. I considered it to be Ben's best piece yet. It is very disappointing to find out that he didn't.

Dear Dear Me! I am away from my computer for a few hours and it appears that I was bombarded by the Rachel-Maddow-Foreign-Canadian-Fem-boy-army.
Though outnumbered by a multiple, I will not be silenced by this onslaught.
It is the eave of "Liberation Day." Gather round. Rather than responding pedantically to ongoing TDS induced blatherings, I will set the stage for "Liberation Day."
Imagine that I sell you a rubber duck for one US dollar. But then you tell me that the exact same rubber duct will cost me $4 if I buy it from you. I respond. WTF! It's the same damn duck. You respond, yes it is, but I have a long list of infallible reasons for wanting to sell it to you for 4 times what I pay you for the same damn duck. And Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel agree with me completely. I respond, keep the damn duck. And by way, ISN'T THAT A FORM OF TAX? And you respond, It' only a tax when I say it's a tax, not when you do. I respond, Phuque the duque then. Ducks cost you $4 now. And you respond, OMG! OMG! OMG! YOU CANT DO THAT. YOU CANT! YOU CANT!
That is the core of what is at work here. Tomorrow, it appears that we get to see how it plays against reality.
My wife predicts the entire episode will be up and down in a month. I think a bit longer. We'll see. Rubber ducks... Really, Marty? YOU'RE NOT A REAL TEXAN! Try this... I've worked hard all my life. How can I talk down to people if I'm standing in the same place as them? I am one of the people here. That puts me on the same level regardless of what I say or delusions of grandeur that I may possess. But I don't. I just talk. That is whatever it is and is not whatever it is not. ?Attention? Not me. That's you. I post my songs several places that go unnoticed. No one is obligated to pay attention. ?Cry wolf? About what? ?This site blows? Well, I dunno. Dont worry about what it does. It does what it does.

I plan to post an AI song in a week or so. Not just here. I have no expectations I was on your side and you tell me to fack off. No. I told you to give it up. This site is not about songs anymore. It's about politics, religion and arguments. I told you that it is pointless to try to change that. "Give it up" Talk down, as if you say give it up, and it happens. Translation please? First off Mike...great song catchy song...thanks for posting it. I I expect if it goes viral....what an ear worm it is....SUMO will be on a hit list Marty, careful, you made a point of saying you wanted to engage in civil political discouse and name callling is not even just another point of view And Marty a big thank you for coming clean on how your TDS clouds your judgement including your diagnosis of our alleged TDS. You blind devotion as in Trump Devotion Syndrome is shown by how little you know of tariffs yet how loudly you proclaim their justified use here I get his tough on the border get rid of the scum activity has you on board everywhere else ...but your "we only want fair trade" is not always tariffs and like treating kids, fair is not always equal. Then you get the composition of trade...goods....many types....many different measures categories of activity.....comparative advantages...investments in our country Your primary official beefs with us as I understand it is 1) our supply management system that is management by marketing boards...set up to ensure our producers are paid fairly. 2) our caps on your fresh produce 3) our French language laws. #3 is not negotiable if you want acces to the Canadian market as we are officially bilingual. I explained in my earlier counter to Mr Trumps 51st state talk that any common President be trilingual, English French and Spanish and be encouraged to learn Dutch...along with a few important other terms ...in recognition of the composition of the combined country and culture...you know, diversity, equity and inclusion. 2) We import from everywhere and I just totally enjoyed a bag of Costco Morrocan grapefruit. I cut them up and threw them together in a bowl and enjoyed the sweetness hell out of them and poured the juice into a glass. My best memory of grapefruit was a dozen yellow Texan grapefruit that to me will never be surpassed. Kudos to Texas. Trade between us I know nothing about. Coming in almost 100% of our fresh fruits and vegetables and relateds goes though the Ontario Food Terminal close by where I live US trucking coming in would use their resident distribution system into Ontario and likely further. Gotta think there are similar distribution hubs across Canada that your fresh farm produce can truck and fly into. 1) Our marketing boards where set up decades ago to manage supply to market among a wide number of farmers so that buyers of their land and animals and their products have to pay fair prices for what they as producers provide. A producer controlled one point of purchase ensured all farmers could make a decent living. Culturally engrained into our farming history and tradition. That is a harder nut to crack because these llowing a thriving rural community across Canada. Just for good measure, the loss of egg production in the USA simply could not have happened here because of our system's inability to allow the existence of such concentrated egg producing facilities as fell victim in the US bird flu. Tariffs and duties and excise taxes and various fees and "no fee" (labeling, language, packaging, etc) exist between us now , I am sure we can make trade between us better, but they are not and do not appear to be a big issue between us Oh we are also officially Metric, though we go fuzzy there in practice. Sometimes there's reasons like there are 473ml in a US pint so that is how our beer is sold here. In 473ml cans German and European imports on the other hand are a 127 ml more at a stout 500ml. Some of them are getting smarter and downsizing but charging the same... Not surprisingly Paul Rand from Kentucky has decided to speak up for Canada and Kentucky Bourbon which is still nowhere to be seen on Canadian shelves. Interestingly enough booze is under Provincial control so that means every province has pulled US booze off our shelves. He has added his voice to US states that really heavily on trade with Canada. Seems they are even going so far as to question his authority to use those emergency powers based on lies to sign them into law Word is Canada will be relatively better off after Trump's big announcement day that will hit countries with counter tariffs While Lutnick does Lutnick, Rubio must be fretting about the Chinese damper put on the sale of the Panama ports to the Black Rock led consortium. All nice and legal in Hong Kong courts. At stake is port facilities (not the only ones) at either end of the Panama Canal and others near the Suez. Don't know if you read Clavell but his Asian Saga (magnificient reading) covered a generational Struan family saga trading house\comglomerate like Hutchinsom Whampoa...British Chinese history in Hong Kong It will end up a barganing chip somehow in some bigger picture like it has to. Had lunch with a tax client today and we were talking about this and he informed me that there seems to be some Chimese interest in a Canada across Nicaragua....bit of research shows past talks and failures through time but then more recent interest from Chinese sources. Maybe topography makes sense and they dig a huge trench before letting the water into an engineered canal from what appears to be plausible Atlantic and Pacific ports. Vision and means... Kinda like the jump on the AI. Ok, take Panama. We'll just build a newer better one that better integrates with our Belt and Road initiative. Russia like I said is "keep an eye on the ports" Waiting with bated breath for tomorrow
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Russia like I said is "keep an eye on the ports" Waiting with bated breath for tomorrow Great catchy song ? fucke you fucke you fucke you fucke you fucke You fucke You Yeah real classic
We’re all built from the same dust and dreams, Different roads, but the same means.

Marty, careful, you made a point of saying you wanted to engage in civil political discouse and name callling is not even just another point of view
And Marty a big thank you for coming clean on how your TDS clouds your judgement including your diagnosis of our alleged TDS. You blind devotion as in Trump Devotion Syndrome is shown by how little you know of tariffs yet how loudly you proclaim their justified use here
I get his tough on the border get rid of the scum activity has you on board everywhere else ...but your "we only want fair trade" is not always tariffs and like treating kids, fair is not always equal. Then you get the composition of trade...goods....many types....many different measures categories of activity.....comparative advantages...investments in our country
Your primary official beefs with us as I understand it is 1) our supply management system that is management by marketing boards...set up to ensure our producers are paid fairly.
Tariffs and duties and excise taxes and various fees and "no fee" (labeling, language, packaging, etc) exist between us now , I am sure we can make trade between us better, but they are not and do not appear to be a big issue between us
Oh we are also officially Metric, though we go fuzzy there in practice. Sometimes there's reasons like there are 473ml in a US pint so that is how our beer is sold here. In 473ml cans German and European imports on the other hand are a 127 ml more at a stout 500ml. Some of them are getting smarter and downsizing but charging the same...

Waiting with bated breath for tomorrow Thank you John. I actually learned a lot when I read your post here. This complex stuff. I watched Fox News tonight and according to them, Trump wants to punish other countries for the trade deficit the US has with them by imposing tariffs. Tariffs is Trump's magic word, the solution to all of our problems. The tariff is supposed to be some kind of punishment. At first that sounds logical. But, on second thought ... the tariff is actually a tax increase on the American consumer. Tomorrow is the big day for tariffs on foreign cars. So, when the car prices go up, who will be paying the price? Foreign countries? No, the car dealers and in the end the American consumer. With the auto tariffs it sounds like Trump is going after the foreign car manufacturers, especially the European manufacturers. Which ones exactly? Hmm, did he name them? As far as I know, all the German car makers (VW, BMW, Mercedes, Audi) produce most of their cars for the US market in the US. According to Marty, some of the US cars are manufactured in Mexico or Canada. And according to Peter Navarro Honda and Toyota are more American than the big 3 US auto makers. Is Trump really punishing foreign car manufacturers or is he attacking our US car manufacturers or is he just looking for possibilities to raise taxes? I don't know. I assume Trump doesn't have a clue what he is doing. Just like the attack on Jemen a few days ago. Trump wasn't in the Signal group chat. Trump: I know nothing about that. The US is attacking foreign countries and Trump knows nothing about that. I thought he was the commander in chief. I'm learning something new every day. Thanks again John.

It's an analogy... Like comparing taxes to tariffs... lol...
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE... CANCEL CULTURE IS ALIVE AND WELL @JPF! YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT'S ALREADY BEEN DELETED...

Tariffs sound better than taxes and it puts the blame on others, not the imposing government. The results are the same, the consumer pays the price. It is actually worse than a tax, tariffs are added into the cost and a percentage of profit put on that item goes to fatten the bottom line of the retailer, then a sales tax goes on top of it all. The consume gets skinned again.

I get that. I also understand that you will go on and on with anything that buttresses that point of view. I also understand that both you and I are privy to nothing and neither of us actually knows much about tariffs and international trade. But I do know something about human nature and I know people ride free on other's dimes whenever they can. And I know that since WW2, the US has been a free ride for many in a lot of ways. THAT MAY NOT BE THE CASE WHEN IT COMES TO CANADA! Understand that I understand that. They may take a look and find that there are no glaring inequities. I doubt it, but they may. Whatever the case ends up being...as an American citizen, I would like it looked at. I'm not alone. You appear "ate-up" with the interests of your country. I am concerned about the interests of mine, because in reality, my govt is insolvent and owes money that it will never pay back...yet can still borrow and print money, for now. That has concerning ramifications for the entire world, since we are the super power. Today, the issue of scrutiny of trade relations gets forced. At least, I think that it does. Who the hell knows what actually happens. If it makes you feel better at an emotional level to raise hell about it, then do. As for me, today presents some kind of reality test and changed reality and I'm interested to see what those are. Marty PS John...I do not have blind devotion to anyone. That is just more silly blather.

But the purpose for it, is to channel local money into the purchase of goods that are not tariffed. If a tax falls in the forest and no one pays it... And I realize that there is going to be all sorts of bleed from feeder chains with ramifications and unintended consequences, likely undesired consequences...BUT it will be good to see what some of those actually are and what the overall net gain or net loss is.

Rob How about this...(if true) https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/breaking-germany-launches-first-foreign-34972270First time since WW2. Wow. And the article says that they are going to ramp up that flank for 2 years hence. A favor though...Tell the folks back in the home country, once this build-up gets fully underway...dont go rampaging across Europe. That has caused big problems in the past. "We have a clear mission. We have to ensure the protection, freedom and security of our Lithuanian allies here on NATO's eastern flank." Somehow, that quote makes me recall General Custer. "There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat me." Cavete

One last thing for the TDS afflicted...
I had to drive 100 miles back and forth from Houston yesterday to look at something. I always get major gas...Shell, Exxon, Chevron because the additives are assured. Yesterday, I stopped at a "Pilot" or something and used credit card and paid $2.48 for regular. Random stop out on the highway.
I can't recall the last time that I paid $2.48. I'm pretty sure that it was pre-Biden. Y charts says that the average price of unleaded in the US was 3.23 for unleaded. Hopefully what I paid yesterday is a harbinger.
So that's good..is it not?

Marty you have not been listening.
Canada's main problem is WTF!!! are you doing USA???
You lie to use powerful legislation against us That legislation damages both our economies You break an existing agreement that did not have long to go You threaten our sovereignty and show us no respect whatever You go back and forth creating uncertainty and chaos
Our main trade "barriers" I listed, and it does NOT include a tariff problem...as I said, I am sure they exist, and will be raised.
And mark my words. Whatever Trump announces today, Canada's main "WTF!!!" problems are NOT going away.
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Ooops. I'm back. Thought it might be important to put up a pic of the source material for The Trump Song. It takes a bit more than a robot to take this internet meme and put it in a lyric format that Suno can do something with. Just sayin'. Actually, I can't figure out how to put a pic in here. It's all over the internet, so here's one link. Oh, and the reason I buried it here in this thread is because I wasn't sure if I'd be violating community standards if I put it some place more accessible. It is just a teensy bit profane and might offend some sensitive sensibilities. https://bsky.app/profile/girlapart.bsky.social/post/3lkzxq23e2225

John, The agitation and apparent frenzy that APPEARS to characterize your words makes me question the content of what you are saying right off the bat. "The lady doeth protest too much, methinks" It has always been a bad sign when people dont even want to investigate a situation such as this. I, personally, do not lie. I have said that I do not know. I have said that I have no way to know. You dont either. You have the company line. I have several company lines to choose from. Donny has made some claims about unfair Canadian tariffs. They have been echoed on right-wing media. Now let's see if they are true. Many Americans want a look. If there is enough clarity in that process to see that you were right...I'll admit it. Donny exaggerates and lies. I'm aware. What is important to people such as me...Donny aside...is what he said true or not? Consequentialism.

Yes I absolutely can see that, which is why your little warning for me never to fight you, still has me laughing. Did you not warn me, from 2000 away, now it's impotent of me Therein lies your essence, you talk as if whatever you say is fact, anyone who disagrees is in your way. and your mood swings.. remember " stay off the motorcycle and on your meds " Literally the day before you were berating Tony for ruining the site. I say ' put things in a different section" and you tell me it doesn't matter, like blowing it off, as if you reached this conclusion years ago. But I guarantee you I've dealt with more dangerous and tougher people than you.

But I guarantee you I've dealt with more dangerous and tougher people than you. Dom If you ever actually show up in my presence and present a physical threat to me, I'll be forced to deal with it. But we both know that you never will. You do tough talk on the internet and things like harass MFB with telephone texts after he has blocked you here. It's laughable and pathetic. And your interludes where you soap-box about "the music" here, in between texting MFB and what not, is ridiculous. This place belongs to Brian. He has effectively defaulted its content to Tony. Tony successfully feeds religious threads and political threads which lead to debates and arguments. The activity on those threads eclipses everything else here. That's simply a fact. And it is the reason that I told you to "give it up." My personal prediction is that all of this is closing in on the final curtain.

Marty really??? Agitation and frenzy?????
Since when can spelling out the facts be deemed or even seen or apparently seen as as frenzy and agitation?? I used no colourful adjectives to inject judgment into this...all fact.
And just like you can call it Trump Derangement I can call you out for blind devotion to him. You defend his ends even as he uses questionable means.

Question for you John?
(and I do not know the answer. Am hoping to find out)
Is Trump installing reciprocal tariffs and thereby matching Canadian tariffs on American goods going into Canada,
or
is he installing unilateral tariffs that only levy fees against Canadian goods coming into the US?
Steel and aluminum may be unilateral. I'm not sure, but let's build a conversation about specific tariffs and see if we can reality test the claims.
And I am not talking about doing it in the next hour, but the next few weeks as this thing unfolds.
Question #1 for you... IS TRUMP INSTALLING TARIFFS THAT ARE, IN FACT, NOT RECIPROCAL?
Ps...regarding agitation and frenzy. The words on the screen look that way to me, but if you say that you are calm and collected...we'll go with that.
Marty

Marty Google INTJ and you can find out a lot about how my mind works...even explains how you won me over with your 2nd amendment argument.
I can definitely get emotional while in the moment conversation but here I write and my professional life says think and organize your thoughts and present them rationally
Is there judgement in my on line conversation? Absolutely. Totally unequivacably so. My life experience is my own and my formed thoughts and ideas and memories and ambitions and ideals and spiritual life is my own
So turning tariffs, today is "Liberation Day" and we will see. BTW this morning add on to your trading beefs with us is our internal organization of trade that showed the power of 11 provinces acting in concert to shut down american booze. According to our Globe and Mail. And if you want to review an intelligent response to your aluminum question refer back to my earlier post. The quick answer is cheap energy which Quebec has in abundance and access to Bauxite. I also added you sell us back all kinds of things made with aluminum and I'll add now too that your own use is industrial and strategic with high value added injected into your own economy. Why make that cost you more?
But in the mean time, the derangement devotion discussion remains.
You use that term derangement to sum up our opinions of Mr Trump but do not address your own blind devotion. You admit he lies but allow him to lie to abuse his power.....as long as he achieves the aims you agree with. You say his drill baby drill lowered your gas prices so that is a win for you as well so you are happy with what he is doing.
Digging back you would not admit the 2020 election was not rigged and claimed all you wanted was a legal look, a review, someone independant even as court after court after court rejected Mr Trump's claims he won the election.
I asked before about whether or not your support for Mr Trump had limits which had no answer before
So do you think the Jan 6 2021 mob of people who entered the US Capitol .......that where there in support of Trump, who had just spoken to them about the stolen election...encouraged on by him and others....who then marched on to where the election was being confirmed under (Hang) Mike Pence .......should have been pardoned? Just as a reminder, 1474 people charged, 1010 pled guilty, about 659 jail sentences. Most violent and serious charges and sentences were against far right extremist groups that Trump never distanced himself from. All, even those convicted of the most violent and most serious crimes....all pardoned.
Does your support of Trump go so far that you see nothing wrong with this?
Does this qualify me as deranged for thinking this is not right or you as blindly devoted for supporting it?
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

John
I'm trying to FOCUS our conversation on something that will stay on a manageable and informative track.
Trump's claims that the election was rigged is not at issue here. Nothwithstanding that, he won the election and he is president. Not of Canada. Your fall back to J6 is not at issue here. Be all that as it may, and Nothwithstanding that, he won the election and he is president.
On the one hand, you chastise me for using the term TDS and on the other hand you try to smear J6 and everything else that you hate about Trump across any conversation that I try to have with you about tariffs. A reasonable conclusion is that TDS may be driving that.
Hate it or not, Trump is POTUS and from that position, he is calling today "Liberation Day."
So the issue at hand is accuracy , truthfulness, reality...what is liberation day all about?
It appears to be about trade relations ALLEGED to be inequitable. It appears to be about the imposition of RECIPROCAL(?) TARIFFS because of trade relations that are inequitable.
The starting point, in my mind, is trying to ascertain the truthfulness or not of the allegation. Are there truly any non-reciprocated tariffs on American goods by Canada as Trump is claiming? Is Trump imposing any tariffs that are unilateral and unprovoked?
John, are there? If so, what are they?
Ps I consider the cartels, SA & CA gangs and the spread of their influence into the US as a threat to my personal safety. I have had property mildly vandalized by an MS13 enclave, that a task force later raided and chased out of the area. For me, that is 10 on a scale of 10. These tariffs are a 2 or a 3.

This place belongs to Brian. He has effectively defaulted its content to Tony. Tony successfully feeds religious threads and political threads which lead to debates and arguments. The activity on those threads eclipses everything else here. =Eschatology is a science, not a religion. The Bible is also not a religion... ="The Rant Arena" is intended to be the ONLY place where "Folx" can cuss and swear ALL they want about ANYTHING they want... Ya'll are the problem, I'm the solution
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE... CANCEL CULTURE IS ALIVE AND WELL @JPF! YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT'S ALREADY BEEN DELETED...

Tony, Whatever words you want to use is fine. Eschatology apparently means end times, nigh times etc. "ology" tacked on the end is a ruse. I suggest that you just stick with "religion." It makes you sound a little bit less crazy and deluded. For this site, you are the end times. At large, you are just another element of confusion.
