Rob, I understand your frustrations....and can say that in my lifetime I have never seen Canada so together AGAINST the USA. Even with removed\delayed tariffs etc. ..it was his Canada should be the 51st state that mobilized us ...

We know we have 20% or so of all the fresh water in the world....we have lots of mineral resources including valuable rare earths, Oil and Gas....an Arctic border ....all of which Trump covets.

Consumers here are now uniting to avoid all products made in USA. Retailers are sectioning off America made products, large firms are cancelling conventions in the USA, Snowbirds are selling and moving back. Canadians are no longer choosing US destinations as holiday destinations.

Investigations into products are going "granular" in the sense that Canadians will buy American company products made here..that employ Canadians and buy Canadian "inputs" ...but nothing actually made in the USA if that can be avoided. This weekend there was a large newspaper article that showed what product categories were Canadian or have substantiial Canadian content...and also showed product categories for which there were no Canadian subsitutes...laundry detergents for example....but give the market time. We'll source elsewhere.

We have free trade agreements with the EU and others and are negotiating with the UK and others. In the long term, we will turn away from the USA because it is a fickle partner, at the whim of its president and his cabal of plutocrats...all in it for themselves. Trump the Grifter leads by example, selling Bibles, Tokens, etc etc. Has he put any of his holdings at arm's length this term??? (yes last time he simply handed control to his kids and said he had no influence over their decisions...this time????)

There are practical decisions to be made for both countries. My first suggestion is a chill pill.

Trump just got into office in a decisive election (not a landslide). Like him or hate him, he has endured an unrelenting onslaught that would have broken almost everyone else. That included a rifle bullet coming within a few MMs of his skull. Calling him names don't stop him. When it comes to economic warfare, Canada has a pistol. Trump has a cannon. (which includes influence over your other trading partners)

The most intelligent thing for everyone to do is to back it down and get back to negotiations. Trump was just using comparative satire with the crap about Canada becoming a state. He started the conversation by framing the relative strenght(s) of the parties involved.

I have taken a motorcycle trip from Houston to Vancouver, BC in past years.
This last September, I took a bike to Boston, wife flew in and then we drove up to Quebec City and explored "Old Town." It was wonderful. NOLA with class. And the Citadel? A Napoleon era fort that was built and then never attacked, so perfectly preserved?! Loved the city.

Next major mc trip is up the middle of the country to, Badlands & Black Hills SD, Mt Rushmore, SD, Michigan UP, and Montreal. If you live anywhere around there, I'll buy you dinner....if Trump will allow me too.

In the meantime, almost all of you Canadians live a short drive to the border. As you know, the populated portion of your country combines with the NE and upper MW-USA as a very important region unto itself that no one (including Trump) wants to see screwed up. We are so integrated along our border....especially from Duluth out along the Great lakes, various rivers then the St Lawrence..out to Montreal and QC, ...amazingly centuries old then French- European layout and architecture in residences and churches and institutions. For more than 250 years that ribbon has been building even before the USA and Canada became sovereign nations.
