A VNORTH inspiration Just a rough, but appropriate for a lazy Sunday... https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14668592I want a better life Escape doesn't interest me The carnage of the mongers Provokes hostility Drunk with wanton passion That never satisfies The devil laughs hysterically As the saints wonder why Just remember Jesus Take a moment of time Consider God's point of view Calm and clear your mind Strife is temporary Heaven is eternity An everlasting promise A peace transcending Life's missing piece Absent in the turmoil Words have no meaning Can you hear the confusion As the jackals keep singing Thieves in the darkness Robbers of tranquility The Spirit calls for action Amidst pride and futility Just remember Jesus... JAPOV I really like what you’ve done here.... you make it personal by speaking in the first person right off the top, so it’s immediately relatable to many you then lay out some dark stuff but don’t condemn...and the music keeps you from going dark you then talk of Jesus as a possibility without becoming preachy...nice approach Steve

I like a blues rock foundation for a praise/worship song cuz you don't hear that a lot.
When you un-rough it, consider background singers. See if you can make Solaria sound like Merry Clayton! I'd run Sol through Whitney Houston at LALALS if you need to Gospel her up, a bit. Too bad they don't have Aretha, yet.

I wouldn't mind a bit if YOU did that, Mike

Isolated with no effects is best.
Be aware, running it through LALALS won't change the performance, just the sound of her voice.

Thanks, Tony! Did you redo your vocal? It sounds more up front/less reverb maybe and the phrasing slightly tighter maybe a tad more aggressive (or is that my imagination?) Anyway this mix is very good! I love what you did with the backup singing--gave them a bit more freedom to be doing different things at the same time--something I had not considered. Just two things I'm hearing in the backup singing that you could address, if you hear it the way I do, cuz they're small things...but hard to talk about given the format of chat room/forum, lol, but I'll do my best. And disclaimer--it's only cuz I worked on Sol that I'm hearing every nook and cranny of what's going on with her...listeners probably won't... --at 0:14-16 (and (1:54-56) "u-u-uh oh" --those 8ths sound straighter than they should there. I had to "free hand" the swing time, in that I don't think there's quantizing in Synth V, just "snap" and snap does have 1/6th etc. that can give full-on swing aka triplets, but to get your 60% feel, I had "do not snap" checked, and I was manipulating notes by pushing them left/right with the mouse, then listening...just in case you haven't tried this: highlighting a note with "do not snap" checkmarked lets you push that highlighted note into adjacent notes expanding or contracting those adjacent notes, keeping the legato effect working--that's what I did to get near your 60% swing feel. Upside of that method is it gives a more human sound to the "swing" in that it's never exactly 60% since I was just using "feel" and not science. Downside is sometimes my swing may have been way off, if I wasn't carefully checking everything. I know my first chorus 8ths were a little too straight, for instance. The uh-u-huh's that Sol sings before "life's missing piece" in the chorus seem to have the right amount of swing, as did the ones near the end, I think. Very important: If you copied/pasted anything written unsnapped aka "freehand" with SNAP ON----that will CHANGE the timing!!!!. I am guessing maybe that's what you did at 0:14-16 (and (1:54-56). So consider trying that again with "do not snap" selected. That should retain the ballpark 60% swing feel! I had put a flange on the two Sol's singing all those notes around "peace" (1:12-18 and 3:33-39) cuz I wasn't sold on my work on that part but couldn't improve it either, so I fudged with the flanger, lol, to cover my dislike of what I was hearing without it, and it sounded okay to me with. The first set (especially) still sounds a little off to me. My note choice, I think. You're doing that flamenco change E/F/E there, and I was using (melodic) A minor scale, but something was just off about Sol there, in the 1:12-18, right channel, it's the next to last note she sings at 1:15, feels a half step low, maybe? --at the end, the last things heard is Sol's singing "missing piece" and I'm not sure if that's a good ending... If I hear anything else that strikes me as "off" I'll let you know...Sol really does have a Dolly sound up high with a lot of vibrato happening, LOL...don't mind that... Everything really cooks from the chorus/bridge/chorus parts...love the added hand claps, btw... Oh, and the first time you sing "I want a better life" I kept hearing "I wanna burn alive" LOL... Carry on...

"I wanna burn alive" LOL... Too bad I don't have an edit button... Swing; I pushed ALL the notes around L/R in both tracks to exaggerate the stereo effect... So, "exact 60% swing" is pretty much out the window "in the 1:12-18, right channel, it's the next to last note she sings at 1:15, feels a half step low, maybe?" Yeah', I messed around quite a bit with your file there, and the high "Ahhhh" during the clapping break. You're just too much of a perfectionist! Hey, feel free to post your mix
