I guess im opening myself up to criticism, posting a lyric now, but I wrote this this morning! in about 10 minutes, i had this groove in my head and i had the word foray in my chorus. I first asked, what the hell does Foray mean, i looked it up, and its alike a sudden attack on an enemy, or an uprising. I am using it more as a vindication, and kind of explaining to any or all what i have been up against. And how im gonna be ok
Certainly not an artist pitch, not a commercial song, it's a singer songwriter all the way, prolly only me could indentify, but i hope others may.
But i think the groove is apparent in the way the words are structured.
I honestly dont know what i have here, all i know is it came out in a flash
Foray
Well, I've been behind in the grind of the people's mind left for dead, left unsaid, unlike fermenting wine been losing favor all the time
Well, I had some flings music sings and it brings me to think of things wont forget, no regrets, they wore angels wings now a distant angel's calling
Foray, Foray im risin up a brand new day eh eh eh Foray, Foray, Foray
Foray, Foray Im takin back the world today eh eh eh Foray, Foray, Foray
Yeah, it's been hard every card is a shard every face is marred feelin old, feelin cold, dont let down your guard keep on dreamin to prevent the scars
Hope you found a home all your own, not alone, hope they never roam i'll be there in the glare of the victory chrome groove to my own metronome
Foray, Foray im risin up a brand new day eh eh eh Foray, Foray, Foray
Foray, Foray Im takin back the world today eh eh eh Foray, Foray, Foray
I've been rollin the dice dealin in vice for too long I've been payin the price decent advice, it's all wrong
I've been makin mistakes what difference it makes I can't see aint no body comin around no savior in town, it's all me
Foray, Foray im risin up a brand new day eh eh eh Foray, Foray, Foray
Foray, Foray Im takin back the world today eh eh eh Foray, Foray, Foray
""what the hell does Foray mean, i looked it up, and its alike a sudden attack on an enemy, or an uprising. I am using it more as a vindication, and kind of explaining to any or all what i have been up against. And how im gonna be ok""
Well... I think if you're going to use "foray" this way; 1- There should be more explanation why 2- Describe yourself as a one man army against...?
Currently, you just seem like a victim of your own decisions. But, yes... the rhythm here is obvious, very "rap" worthy

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE... CANCEL CULTURE IS ALIVE AND WELL @JPF! YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT'S ALREADY BEEN DELETED...
I was imagining this as a rap, hearing "Ice-T" in my head. Sings great that way. Kinda anthemic.
Then like Guess Who's song "Laughing" --more a ballad, and it works that way too.
Overall, I like it. "left for dead, left unsaid, unlike fermenting wine/been losing favor all the time" slowed me down a bit--I was trying to figure out a way to simplify that thought, to no avail.

Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice Fortune depends on the tone of your voice
-The Divine Comedy (Neil Hannon) from the song "Songs of Love" from the album "Casanova" (1996)
hey guys, you got me when it comes to rap, i know nothing about it to be honest.
I have been on an internal rhyme kick lately, where the sound of the words gets preferance to meaning.
I think i was trying to obscure the details on purpose, might be open to intepretation this way.
i defintely note what u guys are saying about rap, i can hear somebody rapping this, but i probably need to curse more and and get out of my own head with it.
I actually heard this more as a rhytmic REM style song, like the end of the world as we know it.
I just placed myself at the top of the class because I didn't have to look up the word "foray."
I think it works - gives the song a positive, "I'm gonna go out and fix all this stuff in my life" kind of vibe.
It also works because it's just a fun word to say and even more fun to sing. Sometimes that's enough. There was a band back in the seventies who seemed to realize this. For instance, the song "Soley, Soley" doesn't say anything much - I guess it's someone's name - but those syllables just feel good as you sing them. Foray is a word like that.
Not saying that your lyric doesn't make sense. It does and I dig those internal rhymes.
haha Gavin, yeah in my chorus, which was all just tapping on the table, Foray came out, and it does sound great dont it? I said now what can this song be about.
love the word and i actually found something that rang home with it. Thanks for taking a look, im gonna get to it eventually this came as others were being done.
Not a word you hear every day. The only other song I can think of that has the word "foray" in it is this classic, written by Liam Reilly. It pops up around 2:15. You're in distinguished company lol. This song has been adopted as a kind of anthem by the NYPD.

I had to respond to this cause i think you showed me where i heard the word before. My Dad loved the Wolfe Tones, in fact i saw them at a high school in NJ, when i was maybe 9, and again on St Patricks Day in my 20's
i was dragged there as a kid, my Dad used to blast this kind of music and id have kids over and was so embarrassed... lol. Hed say hey how do u like my music, theyd lie and say its great!
but as year went on i realized how good they were, at least as songwriters and singers, and this song here is a freaking masterpiece.
Tells the exact tale of immmigration...legal immigration that is.
But ty for reminding me, and perhaps Dad was tickling me, i woulda never guess where i heard that word...has to be it
They wrote a number of great songs, i didnt think much of them as musicians it was three chords all night for the guitar players i think the flute player was pretty good.
But great voices, great songs, high energy and alot of history.
I think Celtic rock may have evolved from these guys, its very similar to punk music in some ways. not obvious ways though.
FD, glad to have taken you down Memory Lane. This song was actually written by Liam Reilly of another Irish band called Bagatelle.
I'm not a huge fan of some of the Wolfe Tones own songs, so aggressively anti-British as to be faintly ridiculous and almost a subconscious self-parody. Their audience laps them ups though, so they know what they're doing. Probably the most ridiculous of their songs is "Rock On Rockall," an insult laden diatribe against Britain and asserting Irish right to a deserted rock in the middle of the Atlantic but actually far closer to Scotland than it is to Ireland. Why they got so worked up about that I have no idea LOL.

Yeah they were a rebel group thats why i think if they wore leather pants and long hair and some pounding drums and distorted guitars, could be a punk group
I figured they wrote this, i remeber some good songs, and i saw how they affect some people. Dad also loved classic country and doo wop, and Sinatra so my taste caught up to his in some ways as i got older, and less mature....
I dont even care for American politics let alone Uk Politics, that ranges hundreds of years back. but alas, there is another great song called streets of new york, by one of the best rock stars you have never heard of, or many havent, this album was a masterpiece, great lyric and tune and the hole album was top shelf. Astonisihng how this guy aint a huge rock star, when most rock stars think hes better than they are!
I enjoyed the song. Has a bit of a Springsteen vibe to it, although his voice is a bit thinner than the Boss's (isn't everyone's).
I think what stops it from being great is that there is no unifying theme to the lyric, it's a lot of disparate images that don't lead anywhere, although it's a fun journey, especially as my daughter lives a stone's throw from some of the places mentioned. My favorite lines are... Meet me tonight by the station Meet me in Washington Square We'll drink wine and dance on the moonlight And I'll hold you in the air
Great lines, even if they have nothing to do with most of the song. The choice of "on" instead of "in" is inspired.
It's quite long, and I was longing for a new instrument to appear, only to be a bit disappointed by the slightly jarring harmonica.

Thanks for sharing the video.
its the title track of the album, not the strongest tune but i disagree 100% i think its a great lyric and great tune completely.
Compared to the [naughty word removed] we hear on the radio today for this to not even get noticed is a travesty.
Beyond the writing, the music and the excitement and energy of his arrangements and recordings are something to behold. I siuggest you listen to the album in its entritiy. i dont know how rock n roll you are, but youd be hard pressed to find a better rock n roll album than this, although this title track is on the ballad side.
and he made a string of 4 or 5 album in a row that rival any rock artist ever
