I did a search on here and there were mixed reviews, one big blowup. But I'm wondering what the consensus is now. Has anybody had any success with them. Pros and cons? list them. My application was approved but I haven't uploaded anything yet. Doesn't seem like it was much of a review. I've been rejected by other libraries. Email from them said I should check out Landr that one of the tracks for the application had 2 sec. of silence before the song started. (Not desirable) per them. Any comments are appreciated.

Edit: Also, if anyone has some other libraries, they've had success with please list. I have a list of hundreds, but I can only check out 1 or 2 a night when time permits.

That may be invaluable advice; even two seconds of silence is wasted 'space' they don't want to have to deal with.
Introductory Movements, in the Synchronization Licensing biz were down to seven seconds, I read somewhere, recently.
I can see that being 'valued' in terrestrial radio too. They want short Songs, serving to keep audiences listening until the commercial advertising that pays the bills comes on. The 30 second, 60 second Intro., followed by a four minute Song doesn't fit that bill.
Much terrestrial radio is 'canned', piped in, with no 'in-the-studio' DJ sitting there 'jockeying discs'.
There was a train wreck some years ago and Law Enforcement went to their local radio stations to get the Evacuation Warning Order out to the public. There was no one there. The 'canned' radio in their community, they learned that day, in an emergency time frame, was piped in from 150 miles away.
Money motives.

Folks may want to visit those sites (If those web addresses are accurate) and learn a little.
Transitioning from creative hobbyist to commercial venture, marketing product, is something most creatives have not 'studied'. It's a necessary education process to behave as a 'Company', formally engaging in 'Commerce' with other Companies. Some nuances of difference spring up, compared to engaging in Commerce with individual 'Consumers'.

Thanks Gary, I did a search on here for Landr also with mixed reviews. Some like it some said the mastering removed some of the quality. But you're correct on the transition, lots to learn. Last time I tried this before my health issues I remember it being quite the chore and taking the fun out of it. But I'm not as busy as I used to be. Thanks for the webinar link also. I don't want to get locked into anything I can't get out of.

For about a 4 month period between December 2013 and March 2014, I was active in uploading mostly instrumentals to Audiosparx, maybe 30-40 pieces overall, and am still getting Paypal deposits from them though they're much smaller ones now, and not four times a year, anymore. I've probably netted a couple grand or so off the pieces, over the years.

1) Create different mixes of different lengths for each piece you upload. Audiosparx seems geared towards "background music" for podcasts, radio, tv, and the likes (this was the case a decade ago, maybe that's changed), and someone might be shopping for something at a specific length, or might like a certain song, but need an instrumental version of it.

2) Write enthusiatic "blurbies" for every piece you upload and add copious "sounds like" tags. A word you use might be what a shopper might "search" for when looking for a piece.

3) Read through and make sure you choose a contract you like. Some contracts don't permit you to use a song you upload anywhere else, so be careful.

4) Don't expect to get rich, but I imagine if I had continued in my uploading endeavors I could be getting that couple grand every quarter or at least every year, instead of the tailing-off, piddly little amount it is these days.

Thanks Mike, I'm not expecting to get rich, just trying to get a few songs heard or placed. I've been thinking about background music also. Some of the reviews I read on-line stated that "songs" seemed to do better. Go figure but I don't know if that's true. I take reviews with a grain of salt. Couldn't name all the power tools etc. I've purchased over the years that had some bad reviews but worked fine for me. I just have to figure out now if Landr will do anything for me. I'm just setting everything up right now. I don't even know if they want .wav files or mp3 at this point because I can't upload until they approve a picture and I send them a tax form. They ask for (3) mp3 files when I did the application, so I just sent them the 3 songs Chet did for me over in the mp3 forum. I'm glad you've had success Mike, never know what may happen, they could just sit there in the catalogue or maybe I get lucky. Most likely going to go non-exclusive and handle the publishing on my own.

Songs w/vocals may be complicated by your contract with your demo artist, singer, etc. Make sure all your ducks are in a row.

Here's from their FAQs, regarding WAV vs MP3. I personally always sent 16 or 24 bit WAV files. They seem to be suggesting that's what they need (or AIFF) in order for their own conversion process to not add degradation to the file.

Title: Which audio file type is most desired by customers (WAV or MP3)?

Q. Which audio file type is most desired by customers (WAV or MP3)?

A. When a client purchases a track, they are able to choose the file format they wish to download (wav, mp3, aiff, wma and au). Regardless of which type of file you upload, we convert it in real time to the file type the client selects to download. As long as you upload tracks as high resolution WAV or AIFF files, our system is able to encode them quickly into MP3 or other file formats as necessary for download by the clients after they make a purchase.

Thanks again Mike, sound advice on the contract with Chet. I took care of that; he kept telling me I was paying for his service, but I gave him a co-write because those songs would have never got out my basement without his help. Plus, I thought it would be cool to have a co-write with a member of 3 Doors Down. This all started as a shot in the dark and just for fun, but I think what he did made them commercial, at least in my opinion. I have an anti-drug song I hope to get done next "Midnight Express" Haven't been able to talk to him, I think they are getting an album together.

16bit/48Khz WAV's. That's the Music Industry's standard. So I ship everything as that.

Good luck Chesterb!

Best, John smile

Thanks Everyone for all the info and advice. I am set now to start uploading. Quite the process, my songs, bio and artist name all had to be approved. I don't think Landr did anything but raise the volume, they didn't take care of the leading or trailing silence so I'm going with the .wav files I got from Chet. I found a little free app that eliminated the silence. I found an app that would give me BPM also. I'll start with 3 songs and go from there. Thanks again! Reading through all the emails they re-arranged their strategy and are looking for songs if anyone else cares to open an account. Seems there are just so many backing tracks now-a-days. I've seen some sites where you can pay say 19.99 and download as many 30, 60 second clips you want. Here is my profile picture I had them design.
