Everyone is going to watch for balloons in Atlantic City. I read a news report that these surveillance balloons have been around for decades. We got em. They got em. But some cowboy in Montana looked up and saw this big one and it blew all up into an incident of international espionage. So Biden had to look like he was taking charge and started shooting down anything in the sky that reflected light. At a local birthday party, a 6 year old kid was holding onto a birthday balloon filled with helium...and an F16 dropped out of the sky and blasted it. The child and 3 others close by died as a result. The Biden admin's public statement was sorrow that the children were regrettable but necessary collateral damage in the president's war on balloons. Developing.... Marty News Corp

I don't care about corporate spectator sports and never have. I view them as mortal man's most efficient invention to waste his finite time.
Even if I did care about the NFL, it's become infected with Woke, which I view as a false religion. I avoid everything about it.

Going back to the ancient Olympics, Athletic competition has often been a proxy for actual warfare. That's a very good thing. Anything done to excess can become degenerate. Wow Couch...you missed an awesome game. Thrilling to the end
But I get the whole idea of what you are saying. Every minute ....starting well before the game.....is tightly choreographed, and segments of it....like the coin toss do not look at all like the coin tosses of old.
Footbal and the Superbowl are so ingrained in culture, you cannot escape it even if you tried....this thread is proof
Welcome to gladiators 2023...bread and circuses and all
Marty.....Olympics were actually the Greeks way of paying tribute to their gods....I think the closest you get to tying warfare to Olympic games is the ancient ways of individual champions fighting on behalf of armies and kings....and the modern practice of boycotts

I said..."Athletic competition has often been a proxy for actual warfare." Because they have, in ancient Greece as well as 1936 Germany. Did they preclude war in either case? Not so much. But they were a momentary proxy and distraction. Can't hurt.

It was a great game, usually it sucks.
I understand your pov Couch., It's more Hollywood than competetion. In the end, it's entertainment, a much needed diversion for many, which is why the whole kneeling thing was doomed to fail , sports are an escape from the rat race.
The inventors never foresaw the business it would become. But the Superbowl is different again than other sports. The season has to end and as you know as a writer, every good story needs a good payoff. That's the final game. Yes it's become over commercialized, but I will say the truly great players and coaches dont like that side of it either, they just want to win the football game
Those that get caught in the hype, dont fare well
I think it's that one week of the season where wives can enjoy it! Their reward for putting up with it all season

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
