If you are having a debate with someone of a much different opinion and you employ a parallel metaphor which equates what you believe to be ...lovely and priceless pearls,

but equates and dismisses whomever might be in earshot of your pearls, but rejects or resists them as not necessarily true..........as swine.

Faith in the truth of "something" is insufficient proof that "something" a) truly exists and b) exhibits the characteristics believers ascribe to their version of "something"

I'm amazed Jews Christians, Muslims and other faiths are monotheistic, so share the same a), God exists, but then all hell breaks loose around the b)

Marty's position as a self declared agnostic is that it is useless to talk about b) because we cannot establish the truth of a) which must be taken on faith alone

Underlying point, well recognized, is faith in the existence of a) is not proof a) is true.

As long as that is the case, individual belief must be vigorously respected and supported.

Amid our mad preparations for Christmas, it’s all too easy to lose… Christmas. So, it seems good for us to stop occasionally, and think about various aspects of the Christmas miracle. One of those aspects is that it’s still happening. We’re in the midst of the Christmas miracle right now. And from here, the glorious climax of the story looks extremely close.

The Old Testament prophets spoke of the Messiah almost as if He would be two different people. Isaiah 53:4-6 (NKJV) is a great example of prophecies depicting the Messiah suffering for our sins. “He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

Through the same prophet, Isaiah, God gave us what seems like an opposite picture in chapter 9, verses 6 and 7. “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end.”

How could the same Person die for our sins, yet rule the world forever? In retrospect, the answer is obvious. He would rise from the dead. We know from history that God resurrected Jesus. Hundreds of witnesses saw and heard the risen Christ. Jesus told us the eternal plan of God was for Him to die for our sins, rise from the dead, ascend into heaven, and return at the right time. In Matthew 26:64, Jesus said, “Hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

At Christmas we celebrate the Lord’s first coming, but we should at the same time celebrate His second coming. It hasn’t happened yet, but one of the great messages of Christmas is that God keeps His promises. He kept His promises in the past, and, we can be sure, He will keep them in the future. In John 14:3, Jesus promised, “I will come again.”

After Jesus ascended into heaven, angels appeared to His disciples. They said, “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

This same Jesus will return! And when He returns, everything will change.

The quotes from the Bible aren't offensive Everett. The way you place them into the conversation is offensive. For starters this is a songwriter site. Everyone here should know how important presentation and context are.

I could come up with miscellaneous quotes over the centuries that equate your beliefs with fanciful mythology and make the case that much of it was derived from pagan antecedents, but I prefer not to do that because of the many Christians whose belief is a sincere and kind attempt to connect with their maker.....

I am a Christian and believe in the existence of God, however I can provide no proof of His existence..and no other Christian can prove God’s existence... we all believe by Faith...I am, however, able to tell anybody who wishes to listen why I believe in the existence of God...we are asked to defend our Faith and spread the good news

Conversely, non-believers are unable to prove He doesn't exist...in the end it's not about proof, it's about why

Look, the truth is, I hate politics. It's ALL corrupt! The system itself is so broken that you can't even get involved without getting your hands dirty. But, with the whole "Big guy and Hunter" laptop scandal, China and Ukraine, cancel culture and obvious social media bias, the southern border, false sexual/racial narratives being taught to grade school kids, obvious election tampering, and not to mention, the botched Afghanistan withdrawal which everyone seems to have already forgotten about... there's just NO WAY I can possibly get behind this current administration just because nobody likes Trump's hair.

No argument here with almost everything that you stated, but Trump's hair in my mind was never at issue. It's weird but I tuned it out. Trump and Boris made weird blond hair on men a thing for a while.

However, Trump and Boris appear to be over. Time to move on Tony. Trump was a disrupter and got some stuff done, but he appears to have died from 1000 self inflicted cuts.

It appears to me that the inmates have taken the asylum. Their numbers are such that they are not going away. All we can do is hope to slow the car down as it approaches the cliff.

Well, I like Trump's energy independence goals... and I believe Trump and Netanyahu make a great team in the Middle East. That's BIG for me. For obvious reasons lol

It’s all true — the angels singing from the heavens, shepherds watching over their flocks by night, the manger, the virgin mother, and the birth of the Child. The Christ Child, the One prophesied from ancient days, was born that night. One of His names is Emmanuel, meaning, “God with us.”

The first chapter of the Gospel of John calls Him “the Word.” The first four verses say, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

Do you see it? This child, this newborn that lay in a box for feeding cows, created the world. He was, and He is, God. And at the same time, He was and is with God. That’s the mystery of the Trinity — one God in three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God the Son entered our world, not in a spaceship, but the way we enter our world, by means of a mother.

The human dilemma is that we stand before a perfectly holy God, and we are sinners. We like to say we are “only human.” But He was human, too — a human with a different nature. He was tempted just as we are, “yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). He told us to be as “perfect” as God the Father, but what human can achieve that level of perfection? The answer is the Human who is also God.

Here was God in the flesh fulfilling all righteousness. Then, on the cross, Jesus, the One who knew no sin, took our sin upon Himself so that we could become the very righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

And that’s why we celebrate. It’s why we give gifts and put colorful lights on houses and trees. His birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection are the reasons why we sing carols and eat feasts. He purchased our redemption. Let us rejoice!

For some, Christmas seems dark. Pain, loneliness, and loss can feel worse against a backdrop of celebration. But the real meaning of Christmas shines even in the deepest gloom. Christ, our Deliverer, has come. Later, He will come again and complete the job of redeeming the earth. But the heaviest lifting of all — our salvation — has already been paid for.

Of all the gifts you have ever received, this one is infinitely bigger and better and brighter than all the rest. God gave His son. There are many great Christmas verses throughout the Bible. But for me, one says it best. It emphasizes God’s gift to the world and to each of us as individuals. We find it in John 3:16.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
