WOW..................a big hello from me, IronKnee!!! JPF was sorely missed.................it's good to have you all back, and to be a part of this community!! Here's my latest.......a sort of post-apocalyptic confessional narrative. Be energized....be optimistic......it doesn't have to be this way......................... Before The FallWords & Music by Tom Tognacihttps://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14311019Before the fall, I didnt care to know what peril may lay up ahead, while going with the flow Swept away beyond and on and on, and on and on, and on and on .... I should have seen the signs all around me; from the calm, into the rapids squall, from the omens we ignored, to that one last final call.... right before the fall Before the fall, I failed to take a stand When they came for the retrogrades, they werent my fellow man So, the purge went one by one, by one, by one, by one, by one, by one .... Each time they came, they came for someone new With each time, pretending not to see And, when they kicked at my door, there was no one left for me whod stand up for me Before the fall, I did not understand Me, in my ordinary life, just living out my plan While the world spun round and round, and round and round, and round and round, and round.

Steven I'm glad you like this Steve.....................I don't expect many will appreciate my lyric; but my songs aren't for everyone. I just can't write songs, with the times as they are, with my head in the sand. Anyways.......I like your, "America is Free" -T

Steve is right, you've really captured a feeling here. Cool perspective, bits and pieces of what happened with no explanation why... A pondering moment, a surprising revelation. Darn it, I should have wrote this!

My biggest concern is not what is actually happening, in this country today.............It's that so many people seem to be "going with it". It's a lazy river that will end up leading us over the falls. I'm glad you appreciate the song. See ya 'round............ -T

Really liked the music too Tom
Thanks for sharing and letting us listen.
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Tom, I enjoyed your song and music. Were you actually thinking of Niemoller, or just your own observations and opinions? I get what you are saying, but wasn't crystal clear on your thoughts. I think a hint of more specificity could be implemented easily--lady liberty in the sand gives a strong signal, but without that, I may ponder a bit more as to where you were going with this. I dig it but think there is room for some small lyric tweaks to "empower" your theme etc.
Great sound you have vocally and musically!

I really enjoyed this. It leaves room for interpretation as to what threatens to cause "the fall." That's a good thing because it speaks to everyone and not just those you might agree with politically. Leaving that stuff aside, I think it's just a really well crafted song lyrically and musically. The repetitions of "on" and "one" are very effective. The melody takes some pleasing detours that really held my interest.

steady-eddie Thanks S-E.......yes, I was actually thinking Niemöller, in the second part. I had the melody and the last closing lines for a while. I got a bit fed up with some of my friend's "going with the flow" mentality. Connecting the proverbial dots, "going with the flow" leads to the apathetic compliance with what Niemöller was writing about. I'm glad you like it, besides the minor nits you have found in the lyric. Hey there Calvin!! Very good to hear from you, as well I really enjoyed this. It leaves room for interpretation as to what threatens to cause "the fall." That's a good thing because it speaks to everyone and not just those you might agree with politically. My writing, as of late, has been mostly spiritual/political, and has upset some around the sites. It's hard for me to write about one thing when my heart and attention is on something else. We are living in exceptional times.......... Thanks again, everyone, for listening and commenting -T

Tom,
Always a pleasure hearing your music. This is a lovely acoustic number with a terrific vocal and an excellent write. Sing-songwriter stuff at it’s very, very best. Beautifully done!
Hope all is well in your world,
Deej
