I see this whole CONVO & makes me wonder why I have, & what to do with this "infant" piece of music called "Keep your eyes on the Eastern Sky"...

No matter which way I write this tune I will be subjected to criticism somewhere because scripturally it doesn't EXACTLY fit...I will take a few liberties lyrically speaking...Why?

All I got right now is the music and the TITLE/HOOK...A big subject, with a big responsibility...

Why would this be an issue? You're writing a song called "Keep your eyes on the Eastern Sky". If it is in praise of God, He knows.

One time someone criticized one of my songs for not exactly using the Bible quotation. After some thought I responded quite seriously " God told me He had no problem with it"

Songwriters have always spoke their minds, Steve. Can't and shouldn't place a muzzle on them. Don't concern yourself about it. If we had to consider everyone�s mindset before we write, it would be like a painter playing it safe by mixing all colors together and ending up with mud. Besides there are always going to be those that like to twist and turn things around to fit their senseless agendas. Let the chips fall where they may. Be true to thyself. Etc�

One of the concerns of Christian song writers,(I am one) is trying to accurately depict the word of God. Some of the greatest cherry pickers, on earth, are Christians and they will let you know of your supposed transgression. I feel his concern. When I wrote It Is Done i read and reread the Gospels to seek out actual words said. At the end of the song I wrote It Is Done. Pretty well all Bibles say It is Finished. It may be a small point but it was a big issue for me. In the end It is Finished was never going to work. God was OK with my decision.

In The Big Inning, it was clearly a book about baseball.

Ahh yes, everybody caught up in what the bible supposedly said or didnt say, as if we really Know Jesus said any of those things, what people DONT worry about is actually doing what they were told to do. Its all about dogma. Focusing on the wrong thing.

Being a God fearing and spirit led Christian isn't something you can simply explain anyway. Without the Spirit you can't have faith, both are a gift. I'm no saint, and I've never claimed to be perfect, just forgiven. So, the way I see it, EVERYTHING I write is from THAT perspective... even if it's a "cautionary tale" lol.

What was their point? You weren't writing about scripture. However you were following scripture. " Go therefore and make disciples of all nations". If you can reach people, through your music, on their level, you are in fact doing what God has asked you to do. Otherwise you're just preaching to the choir.

Steve, you are worrying about nothing, people will criticize you because they are jealous and can't write from their imagination. God still speaks to songwriters to write His messages today. Write what He prompts you to write. I have a song called KEEPING MY EYES ON THE EASTERN HORIZION those words may not be in the bible as such but it says He is coming from the East, so I took it from there. Some people just love to nit pic, they may even be prompted by the enemy to do so to discourage you from writing.

I questioned a post by Tony displaying a Hal Lindsay article in which Lindsay made claims specifically about the anti Christ being foretold by Revelations 13.
I asked Tony to show specifically where REV13 backed this claim. I couldnt see it and still dont.

Questions:

Is asking for the specific reference of an extreme claim what you regard as "nit-picking?"'
Is my asking Tony for proof of the claim "being prompted by the enemy" or stated in other terms...making myself Satan's mouthpiece?

Below is an interesting exchange and one that I personally wonder about a lot. I don't know anything about Islam, so I got some questions for both posters.
I have only seen translated excerpts from the Qur'an. The ones THAT I HAVE SEEN are two types....the Golden Rule sort of stuff that all religions contain and also the Jihad stuff stating that Allah is fine with killing non-believers and if a believer is killed in the execution of a Holy War, that person is rewarded with virgins. Etc.

What I dont know is whether or not the excepts that I have seen are accurate reproductions or distortions by propagandists.
Can either one of you all cite specific examples of either?

Sunset, I am not qualified to answer your question. I am not a Muslim...do have Muslim friends and have also read up on its history and have read but not studied their Holy Quran. I do know those Muslim friends do not condone any sort of violence in the name of God...the One God of Abraham of Jews, Christians, Muslims and others.

We all have prejudice, we all are frightened turtles, we all have doubt, what religion does for some, is allow them to be all those things, while still coming out on top.

And many people, dont like Muslims. Jews, etc, and id say they have every right to feel how they do, no point in feeling one way, and saying another, but at the same time, dont try to tell me your opinions line up with God.

Many years ago I found myself at a tea house in a small town in Egypt with a bunch of locals I had just met. They were a mixture of Muslims and Coptic Christians. I was surprised to find out that one of the Copts was called Mohammed. One of his friends explained to me that his mother had had four children before him and all had died. When she was pregnant with him, she consulted some kind of a village wise woman who told her to give him a Muslim name, which she did, and there he was. It didn't convert them to Islam or anything, it just was what it was. I remember a lot of jokes being made by those of each faith about the other and everyone laughing. Sadly, I doubt that this would happen today.
