Hey Theodore! When I was studying piano, I was taught that two hours of concentrated, alert practice is much better than a tiresome eight hours of grueling practice. Also taught not to practice mistakes. Better to practice a Beethoven Sonata at a fraction of the tempo, making sure all the notes and fingering is precise. Then gradually increase the tempo. As far as composing goes, I’ve been nonstop for decades. Normal day… composing in the morning, recording in the afternoon, and mixing/ editing after dinner. Yeah, a creature of habit. Best, John

Welcome Theodore:
So glad to have you here at JPF. Practice only what your head and heart tell you to do... after you have mastered the key elements of your favorite instrument(s). John always provides great advice... meaning he is probably one of the few here actually making big bucks for his work. He's right about forming good habits as well as learning recording, mixing and editing. Don't practice anything that overpowers the rest of your life... and shuts out your friends and loved ones. Life must be lived and music should be viewed as a hobby until you begin earning enough to make it a full-time job.
I hope you'll continue to participate here and chime-in from time to time, listen to the music and styles of other JPF members at the MP3 Forum. Place some of your own there and if you have an interest in writing lyrics, there are three forums just below.
All the best, ----Dave
