Every once in a while lightning strikes twice. Maybe even more. I read about a guy who got struck seven times. I don't know if that is a lucky thing, but it says something about going against the odds. Well, I've had a good year with this song. Over the past year, "The Price of a Song" was the lyric winner of the 2019 NSAI/CMT Song Contest, the Great American Song Contest, the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, and the Dallas Songwriters Association Lyric Contest. You can hear the song and view the lyrics here: https://easyheroes.com/album/1504765/i-ve-been-dragging-these-old-songs-aroundIt's also available on Amazon, Spotify, iTunes, etc. It got me to Nashville a couple times last year, and I got to hang out with Lori McKenna, got a new guitar, and a few other things. The warm and fuzzy feel doesn't last long, but it sure is nice to know a few people like your song. So keep plugging, everyone. Wait around 50 years or so and something might happen! Michael R. J. Congrats Michael! Cool song! Have you ever been compared to Neil Diamond?

Great singing, great vocals, simple one instrument production well played, shows the strength of the lyrics, just as a song should be showcased. The song I liked best was number three. Are you playing guitar?

Welcome to JPF, Michael:
You have a unique vocal quality that can open doors for you... if there are any doors left to be opened. Enjoyed "The Price of a Song" and would love to hear a version with more backing, backup singers in all the right places... but I know how steep the price of a full demo can be when being funded by the artist on his/her own.
Wishing you tons of success and I hope it happens for you soon.
All the best, ----Dave

Thanks, Dave. I would love to hear a version like that, too! Maybe one day. Until we can start making money at music...
Best, Michael

Thanks, Everett, glad you liked it! That EP was the result of being invited to speak at a class on media production at the University of New Mexico. In the course of my talk, the prof did a great recording of that live performance. I do think that sometimes a good clean vocal+guitar beats a bad demo with lots of backup. So it was serendipitous, but worked out well. As they say, always say "yes," because you never know where it will lead.
And thanks for the feedback on "If It Ain't Love"! I just threw that in, because I had just rewritten the music for the chorus, but I have gotten more positive feedback on that than the other songs. It's a really old song, and the chorus needed a lift. So never write off the old stuff!
That's me on the guitar. Just one take, live, so I was a bit nervous and afraid to try to do anything fancy. Which I probably couldn't do anyway : )
Rock on, Michael

John, I've never been compared to Neil Diamond, but I love that! I used to like him a lot when I was a kid.

Michael, Loved these songs. What a voice and great guitar playing. You give me the feel and vibes of a Gordon Lightfoot more so than Neil Diamond though I love them both. Congratulations to your wins. Well deserved.

Lori McKenna, now THERE'S a talented songwriter! I was just listening to stuff she was nominated for in the JPF Music Awards in 2006! That was some amazing stuff. I need to check in on her.
Congrats, it sounds like you're on a roll! Is there a video for your song?
