Mike. As much as I'd love to believe this, I hate to tell you but this was exposed as a fake in 1956 by Dylan Thomas, who said he wrote it. The typewriter was not invented 'til 30 years later although Burns always claimed it was written on his personal computer.

The permissions process seemed to be different back then. Now anything with a hook can seem circumspect. But much of the music, whether it be popular or alternative are extensions on what came before it. There is very little that has not already been done at least to some point. Whether the author knows it or not.
